So many good memories... It was a random buy on a flea market knowing nothing about the game or the franchise. I fired it up... understood nothing but fell in love in an instant. And i still fire it up every know and then.
My friend and I randomly rented that game in a small video store in Montreal in the early 90's. I fell in love with it, but it was hard like hell. I remember, there was a saved game where we could fight with a vampire in a cemetery but we've never been able to beat it. Did you?
@@thesubgenius1676 So sorry for the late reply! Somehow i must've missed the notification! On the module i bought was a savegame right before you'd storm Aneki Towers. I had no idea what to do or where to go but that save helped me get the gist of the gameplay mechanics 😀 As for the vampire fight... yes, but only thanks to a guide 😀 You need to buy a wooden stake from the Talisman shop and get a strobe light from the club where you meet Kitsune. Use the strobe light and when he is blinded you can use the stake on the Vampire. He will give you some keywords but one is a fake one. So you need to use the stake a second time and he'll give you the correct Keyword. Use it a third time and you can kill Vlad.
@@Pendragon667 OH MY GOSH!!! WE HAD THE WOODEN STAKE in our inventory in the savegame!! I knew we'd need to to kill him since that's what they use to kill vampires in movies, but we had no damn clue about the stobe light that you mentioned. I just learned it now, more than 20 years later. That makes sense. That vamp was hard like hell! We couldn't get close to him without getting killed. I've spent so many hours on that game, but never finished it. I still have my friend's phone number. I'll call him and will tell him. That will be funny. Thanks so much! We've finished Flashback, Out of this world together, but not that one nor Blackthorne. We've also rented Night Trap on the Sega CD so many times but never finished it.
@@thesubgenius1676 Yeah... the game does a piss poor job of explaining things. That's part of the appeal but also sometimes a bit frustrating. Also you can run in a potential dead end if you don't have enough money to pay someone to defuse a bomb. Good thing is: the game has a built in debug menu where you can get Karma, Money and the likes. The Debug Room was discovered 20+ years after release of the game and only because of a hint dropped by a former developer. Grazy stuff. Have you played the new installments of Shadowrun on Steam? Personally i love them. Plus: they dig way deeper into the lore that the SNES installment did. Oh... Blackthorne (or Blackhawk as it is called here in Europe)... another hidden gem. I've never beaten the game as well. Farthest i've made it was to the final section of the game, the Fortress
LOVED THE SPEEDRUN... aint played this since 1993.. dam it feels good to see the classics again.. i finally got this game back. cant wait to enjoy an evening to kick back and stream it too. good job making the video
hey man I know this video has been up a while but this is prob my favorite snes game and i have watched this run from you many times when I'm out of town or just trying to relax just to enjoy the nostalgia when I'm not in a fun place thank you for your run man and hope you enjoyed the game as much as I did.
Yeah that car always does that once. There's also another part right outside the third station where you hear a few gunshots then a mage is walking south. But once he disappears, like that car, he never shows up again.

Thank you sir. I'm going to attempt my own speedrun of this soon, as it's a childhood favorite of mine. I respect how you manage to keep Kitsune alive, because I've managed to get her killed in almost every attempt so far. Her spells are great but micro-managing her casting + tiny amount of HP gives me very little time to take shots or do anything else. In my opinion the hardest part is memorizing the patterns of the 50 computers you hack at the end. But thanks to your video, I have drawn maps for every Drake Tower/Volcano/Aneki matrix pattern, so I'll get that part down eventually.
Started playing this game myself because I never beat it in my youth (never understood that you could talk to Jester during the fight rather than getting to a point where he talks to you). Was intrigued how one beats this game in just over an hour and apparently it's mostly an exploit to get easy money rather than grinding for centuries trying to nickel and dime your way to the money you need to buy everything.
Where's the beginning of the game (with the magnifying glass in the room, searching for clues)? I never got past that part as a kid.. Even after seeing the rest of the game, I still think the Sega Genesis version is the best. I wish they'd re-make it now (like.. "GTA style").
It's because of charisma: the formula for how many shadowrunners you can hire is your charisma divided by 2, always rounded down. So at 4 charisma, you can hire 2 runners; at 6 charisma, 3 runners. Once he slept and increased his charisma to 4, he immediately goes to the club to hire Kitsune and Steelflight. You need Kitsune for her spells (heal and invisibility are great, and her summon spirit can mostly clear entire rooms), and Steelflight is the best shadowrunner with his decent damage, 100 hp and decking skills that could make him a secondary or primary hacker for all the computers at the end. For these reasons, Norbert must be killed to make room for the better shadowrunners at this point.
