Hi Damian, Just wanted to say thank you. Have been following your content for a while, and focusing on many of these points has changed everything for us. A year ago we had about 3000 followers on social media, now its around 200,000. Your content definitely played a big part in this, as it made us focus more on what we were doing and how to change our approach to certain things. So thank you! - Maxl
12.55: Nailed it about decision-making practice and turning a creative mindset so that it stops rebelling against the self. Funny self-sabotage habit that.
One of the most helpful men on the planet. The information is so strong, it doesn’t just apply to music, it’s just most fitting to it. Always great and logical advice 🙌
Good Tips! Thank you. The 1% thing makes me think of a Zen saying 😄: In a fog you don't know you are getting wet, but as you keep walking you get wet little by little.
Just a small, but important addition to the tip "one brick after another. focus on the brick and not on the wall". The big tip is "Enjoy every brick"!!! That is the psychological key to constancy and discipline.
I cannot stand motivational life goal coaching videos but I thought this was fantastic Damien. It’s motivational but direct and without any fluff. I really really enjoy your channel. Thx so much.
@@DamianKeyes you are very welcome sir. I’m a bit older with a family and day job and my band has just put out our first single. Your channel helped hugely with that. Fair play to you for doing what you do and the success you’ve had. We’ll deserved.
I liked the video before it started then unliked it to like it again as the advise here that Damian gave is absolutely on target and you cant fail following it. BTW on another note im close to a six pack, and the secret ? 'Routine ' as pointed out in the vid lol
Great content again. Very motivating. Things we seem to know, but most of the time we are not aware that we do NOT focus on them appropriately. Fine info, thank you Damian. I love the part about having FUN rehearsing. ✌🏼
Great video as usual, Damien! One quick critique: the low end in your voice is really boomy in this video, bass player! 😂😂 I know you have a preference for lower frequencies, but geeesh! You might want to try to add a low-cut or a multiband compressor to suppress a bit of the boominess in the next one. Again, great tips! Thanks for the content!
I'd say this would work for any career in the creative industry. I am designer as a my day job and these rules can apply just as easily, albeit putting it in a slightly different context 😉
But, isn’t making better music than everybody else fun? (Or at least everyone you know, there are some incredible published artists) I enjoy being meticulous with my music and any craft. Grabbin a beer with the homies is for pleasure, not for when you’re making art genuinely worth the investment of someone else’s time! Love your stuff, sorry I didn’t subscribe sooner! 🤙🏼
When my band is successful and making money, I’m going to come to you and ask you to be our manager. It might not be the right time for you, it might not be something you’re interested in at all, but I will come to you and make you an offer. Love your words Damien, thanks.
I have a branding course in my academy, so I’d start there but in a nutshell: - Start asking questions to yourself about which artists you’d go on tour with and who would feature on your records. - Look at similar artists audiences and try to make similarities with your music. - Start creating content and analyse the data and look at the people engaging, who are they, how old are they, what interests do they have? It’s a process, you won’t know straight away but it’s a good place to start 😊😊
I completely disagree that the best marketing is the product. A great product is the bare minimum. If our music was all we needed to market then half of us wouldn’t even be on this channel looking for marketing advice.

Somre really important points there that are so often over looked. When I started following a routine my productivity shot up
Definitely! Routine is the absolute key
Glad to hear you finally say the quality of your music matters!
Of course it does! I’ll explore this on another video!
One of the most helpful men on the planet. The information is so strong, it doesn’t just apply to music, it’s just most fitting to it.
Always great and logical advice 🙌
Love these! And absolutely agree.
Also! - Keep your living expenses and overhead low, especially when you're in the building phase
Definitely agree 🤟🤟
This might be the best clip you have made to date - thanks mate. Palm to forehead stuff but so worth listening to and having it sink in

thanks for this Damian this was very necessary I've been over-contemplating and neglecting my routine.
madonna was once asked about what she thinks is the most important factor to succeed. "surround yourself with brilliant people" is what she said.
Finally 12 Rules for Life from someone worth listening to ;) Excellent video as always Damo! \m/

Why your voice sounds pitched up comparing with other videos!!? haha. i like your content!
I liked the video before it started then unliked it to like it again as the advise here that Damian gave is absolutely on target and you cant fail following it. BTW on another note im close to a six pack, and the secret ? 'Routine ' as pointed out in the vid lol

Thank you!!
So many gems 💎
Gonna do all these but honestly most of them are coming quite naturally now. This is the year NICU starts to make a name, mark my words.
I'd say this would work for any career in the creative industry. I am designer as a my day job and these rules can apply just as easily, albeit putting it in a slightly different context 😉
Definitely! Love that

Thank you 🤟😊
Rule 13: Listen to Damian Keyes!
Why am I not surprised to see Damian put out a 12 Rules for Life for musicians? 😍😍😍 👏👏👏🦞 You are my kind of people, Damo!
When my band is successful and making money, I’m going to come to you and ask you to be our manager. It might not be the right time for you, it might not be something you’re interested in at all, but I will come to you and make you an offer.
Love your words Damien, thanks.
Always happy to help! 😊😊
Bruh i had an album named "12 beats of life" in 2020
I got one
🙏🙏
here's another rule for you : 11:43 use manual focus.
12:54 "decision making is a tool you can sharpen". and then you get out of focus🤣
The first to comment
How can I get my target audience
I have a branding course in my academy, so I’d start there but in a nutshell:

Be my manager 😎😎😎
I completely disagree that the best marketing is the product. A great product is the bare minimum.

Depends how good the product is 😊 this is assuming that the music is brilliant
“Bricks don’t get laid” - you cut to the core of me, Damo.

Decay academy..:-) just take tea away from composting and it becomes composing.
Tidy up your pedal board, bucko!

Only Jesus wins it for you permanently. otherwise as for man, his days are like grass
that the wind blows away in the end.
Really, not enough lobster related advice here..

Don’t associate yourself with the likes of Jordan Peterson.
