I’ve adapted the philosophy of “as long as my animals are alive when I return from a trip I can fix almost anything else”.
I had to do the same thing cause I wouldn’t enjoy my trip. I’d leave detailed instructions and then worry I didn’t remember everything I needed to write down. Drove me nuts!!!

Everyone's entitled to feel "overwhelmed" or tired, or frustrated...after a trip. Kate and the kids held the camp down like champs, but you can tell they missed their Dad. So cool to see new eggs and all of the babies look so cute.
Everything will be back to normal soon, relax, don't stress over the virus, your place is safer than anywhere.

Also I think its important to acknowledge how serious the incident with Slinky was and how stellar Kenan handles it! Very smooth, calm and collected- however stressful! All 3 parties walked away with minor scraps, which very quickly could have been different. What a fantastic example of how powerful monitors can be and how careful we need to be as keepers. A+ 🌟

As a pet owner myself, we care for our animals in a certain way. Having other people care for them is super stressful for me so ive stopped taking vacations all together.

I hear you! I had an asthma attack that put me in the hospital for 6 days and I was having my kids feed them. I came home to my green iguanas with a bowl of meal worms and my leopard geckos with lettuce a couple of dubias in my bed and a pissed of tegu.
David David not everyone is the same. As a musician I used to travel but I really hate it. Pain in the ass I don’t see the point. I’m much happier at home with my animals, working on my cars, exercising and practicing my saxophone so don’t judge how others choose to live. People who live to travel good for you but again not everyone is the same!

I know this was filmed a while ago now, but just wanted to say that everyone has days/moments in which they don't feel at their best physically or emotionally. People are drawn to your videos because of the animals, but also because of your personality, which more often than not is upbeat and cheerful. So, there will be some people that dislike this video for the difference in tone, but surely, most people can be realistic and understand that like everyone else, you are a multi-faceted being that has good days and bad days like everyone else. Much love/support, I think what you do is phenomenal and you surely make a difference in the lives of these animals, and truly, in the lives of your viewers.

I think you need to do whatever it is you like to do to relax, get some sleep and remember tomorrow is a new day. I know its frustrating when you haven't been in control of your animals for a while but everything will be back to normal before you know it. Love seeing your videos. Kennan: to get rid of those flies, heres a trick. Cut a water bottle or soda bottle in half, fill it most of the way with apple cider vinegar and dish soap, cover it with plastic wrap, then poke tiny holes in the plastic wrap with a needle. The flies will be able to enter it, but not get out and eventually they'll die in the bottle. (My brother once left rotting fruit in our kitchen and attracted a swarm of fruit flies).

Hi Kenan Don't feel bad about the jet lag, and being tired. It's a lot of stress leaving all of your reptiles under some one else to care for while you were gone. I know that Kate, and the kids were there for support. Glad that you can think fast, and not panic when Slinky attacked Guapo. To him it was prey. Yes you will have to give them a separate enclosure. Glad that every reptile was ok. I know that you wanted to check on every one. Then eat, and get some rest. You will feel better tomorrow.🦎🐍🐢❤️Cindy

Awww @ the Greek Tortoise. I have my Greek Tortoise for 30 years & until watching your show, I realize when we got him from a pet store (I got surprised when I was like 11 years old I always wanted a tortoise) but I see he was NOT a baby when he was got in the pet store! Anyway, if I pass away before you, I have you in my "will" that I want you to have him, he doesn't use his back legs like other tortoises so I know you'd be able to give him good attention, I would love for him to roam outside, but don't know who he would go with, in what enclosure, I am in Long Island, & would love for you to care for him & don't know anyone else. Yes, it's still a stressful time & it's 5 months after this video you took.

I know you are a little stressed with all the stuff going on, and then coming back home and sometimes it happens right. We leave our scaley babies for several days only to return to what feels like more work than what we left behind.
I have to say though this video is what we needed today. You're funny, your voice is kind of calming, we love seeing the land, the animals, and we are all very glad you are safe and feeling well.

If you watch the video back (which I’m sure you have😋) the iguana jumped off the door & came down on Slinky’s head. It probably startled him & that’s most likely what caused him to bite. Either way, it’s really heart warming to see just how much you love these animals & worry about their well being♥️ one of my favorite channels to watch!!

Hey, I just want to say that it’s okay to be stressed out and jet lagged my dude. Guapo (I might have misspelled that) honestly didn’t care at all after he discovered the food and honestly, Slinky seemed unphased by the spankings as well, but I definitely agree that it’s going to be A LOT safer and less stressful once the new enclosure is built for them and slinky gets that extra space. I have two iguana, a blue tongue skink, and a ball python myself and even I know how much of sticklers they can be if ANY routine is changed.
An apprentice or assistant might be a good idea though. Someone that is very educated and comfortable working with and caring for a large amount of reptiles and a variety of them. It would enable you to take slightly longer trips and help with possible rescue work as well.
That being said, don’t worry about being cranky. I’m pretty sure most, if not all of us would rather see the real you than some fake happy personality. That’s why I watch you amongst other reasons.
As for the virus, I’m definitely concerned as well when it comes to people freaking out. I don’t have premixed food for my babies and feed them actual veggies, fruits, and supplements (I know it’s more expensive and can be difficult to ensure they’re getting enough vitamins and minerals. My male iguana is absolutely obsessed with raw mustard greens, broccoli, and carrots though and it’s been SUPER difficult to even get him to try premade food at all. He’s still youngish (over a year) so I don’t like him missing out on his food even if it does mean I’m spoiling him more. Anyway, I do worry about this whole people being irrational and panicking BECAUSE I buy fresh vegetables and people are just grabbing anything they can at this point. At least pet stores aren’t being too badly ransacked. If I absolutely have to, I CAN get premade food there for my babies in the event of an emergency. Although I do want to gradually try to move my iguanas over to the feed you use eventually. It’s a lot easier to stock up on that than worry about the store. (Although I do have vegetable seeds stocked up too because I wanted to start my own garden for my babies to give them variety and supplement their diets once warmer weather rolled around).

In my experience, animals tend to prefer someone. My collection likes me more than anyone else (they don't eat and behave the same if I ask someone else to stand in for me. Your animals like you (or are used to you) taking care of them.
Exactly, I had a chameleon a few years back and he ate like a monster when I fed him, but while I was away my dad had a really hard time getting him to eat. Not my tortoise tho. He loves food too much to care about who brings it :D
You absolutely did the right thing. Slinky would have torn him apart in seconds. Slinky isn't hurt and he's fine. Slinky seems a little stressed, though.
Buddy of mine was panicking a bit when he left just 3 snakes for a week. Told me he wished he gave me a set of house keys before he left to check on them haha. With your number of animals Kenan, it's no wonder you're stressed out! You got this dude!

When I was a kid in the Catskills , I'm still there lol , we raised some chickens and ducks . I was taught to check eggs to see if they were rotten or not to shake it and if you heard or felt liquid sloshing back and forth , it was bad . One day I did that . I don't know why I held up by my head , maybe to hear better , anyway it exploded . It was the worst foul , putrid , smelling stuff and I got it all over my head .
