Buy a house get a mortgage, buy a car get an auto loan, get a degree and a job and you get a student loan. So why should people fund higher education when someone is benefitting from that loan they took out?
That's also sometimes true of American students with wealthy parents, but I do know some European students who fit your description. I don't think college should be free, but it definitely should be much, much less costly. A bachelor's degree shouldn't cost 250% a first year teaching salary (a bit less than $50K). Also, I do believe that any financial aid should apply only to accredited schools. The Dept of Ed should do the accrediting. Any accredited non-university trade school or job skills program should be eligible for equal financial aid as well.

how would it be a waste, it's not like someone is forcing you to go to college, but those who don't wanna settle for some cheap minimum wage job flipping burgers. getting into college is the easy part, the hard part is the cost. there are trade schools that charge less, you also have joint vocational schools that have things you can take up, but alot of jobs will not take you without a college degree. sure you can get a job at a factory, but factory jobs are not guaranteed. layoffs happen alot. so wanting a career job is more beneficial, but some career paths will cost more than others. so just like making a car payment, why can't there be some forgiveness. now people should pay back, because if you listen to her, she's but not saying you won't pay anything, what her plan would involve, it's like the old saying, if we can cut out the middle man, we can cut you some slack. sometimes a bank will set a number, and you have to pay that number. alot of people just let banks take something out of their check, but we live day to day on paychecks, but anymore it's getting to the point, where you barely have money left. it's why we all get behind on bills, now some people do take out loans without thinking, but the one's who are the most effected by it, are people that work. so if it can make it a little easier, they'll be in debt less often.
