This song reminds me of all the people who have left my life, whether they died or moved never to be seen again, and reminds me of all the things I regret doing all at once. I was 9 years old when I heard this version, which played in January 2004 on pop radio, before the band version made airplay, and I always liked this version better, because it's raw and gives me the most sentimentality. I like the band version too, but I prefer this original more. I will be 24 in a month.

A few days after I heard this, someone close to my family passed away from cancer, so I remember when I saw her with cancer and my parents concerned while hearing this song playing on a car ride home watching the woman with cancer's daughter marry January 14, 2004. The woman passed 3 days later, and her other daughter was my mother's best friend since they were in middle school. I cry when time goes by a while and I hear this song, because I remember the grief.

It's very distant background, it sounds a bit like a high pitched computer whir that carries on to the end of the song. If anyone can help me you'd be my saviour...
+Bradley Hudson You might be able to recreate the noise by a generating a high-pitch sign wave, then layering a couple volume/tremolo LFOs with a noise gate on top of that only lets through the now fairly random loudest points.

In this pattern, by sustaining the note long enough, it trails off into this beeping that sounds a lot like Morse Code. The band just thought that it sounded really cool, so they left it. So it’s there by accident.
only noticed today that the band and album version are both ever so slightly different for example after "it won't leave me alone" it goes straight into #f2 #c3 #f3 rather than #f4 #g (then #f2 #c3 #f3)
