- Cocteau Twins - Iceblink Luck Bass Playalong
Cocteau Twins and the album "Heaven or Las Vegas" has always had a special place in my heart. The aerial and almost transparent sounds that Robin Guthrie made and the wonderful voice of Elizabeth Fraser is a magical combination. This is probably the album I would bring to a desert island.
While Iceblink Luck is not my no. 1 favourite track of the album, it is the most fun to play on the bass.
I apologise for the scruffy look and my morning hair -I'd just gotten out of bed ;)

Recorded directly through a Apollo Twin Duo soundcard with a Neve 1073 preamp and Ampeg SVT Amp emulation, into my Macbook Pro 15" Retina 2014 and Logic Pro X.

Cocteau Twins, the best band ever. Her voice is beautiful. Nice job and lovely bass guitar.
Chris Stevens Thanks man! 👍🏻
Massive fan of Cocteau Twins.
I know Elizabeth Fraser's sister! Great bass playing btw.
Bit of New Order in the melody too.
**stand and applauds** THANK YOU!! Dude. That is IT! Quite well done. Thanks for caring enough to do good work, here. It matters... believe that.
Thank you so much for your kind comment! I’m so glad you liked it.
Good choice for all your play along . And good playing too.
Thank you. I try to choose songs and bass lines that usually does not get picked up by other people :)
@BenjaminP >>> AWESOME Great Job With that Basssssss. Guitar.. GOD HAS BLESSED U . AND;THAT ANGEL OF A VOICE [ E.FRASER ] of Cocteau Twins..
cocteau Twins forever In my 💚
That rhythm is fun! Very good job
Thanks!
So I'm looking at TH-cam videos for this bass because I'm interested in getting one and find your video. One of the greatest bands EVER and one of their best songs and you do this utterly wonderful playalong. You honestly nearly made my eyes leak. I know this is years after you actually did the video so I hope you still get notified that I've posted. Thank you, you have just made my day here in March '22.
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words, Andy! I'm happy that it gave you that much! ❤
excellent job of totally finding the right vibe, love it
Cool sound! Almost sounds like Pictures of You from the Cure. And I say that lead singer looks like my mom!
Yeah, it has quite same kind of sound and vibe, right? I have actually been thinking about doing Pictures of You as well 😊👍🏻
@@benjisandk by all means. I like Far in Between Days and Just Like Heaven! Try those two.
i wish you got that tone at 0:46 sounds so much like a peter hook bassline
Yes, and he’s missing Simon’s switch to power chord or drone here too.
I believe they’re overdubs. What he’s playing here pins the whole thing down.
Super! Je n’avais pas écouté cette chanson depuis des années. Belle ligne de basse et belle énergie dans ce cover :)
Merci! :)
Quality 👏👍
Just stumbled across your videos as I've just bought a 2nd hand Allen Woody Bass as was doing a wee search. Great work. Subscribed.
Thank you! Congratulations on your Allen Woody bass. It's a great sounding instrument. I have several other videos with that bass -check them out :)
Really nice tone and voice on that Epiphone.
That bass is comfortable! I also have one which I use in my band! cool music!
It's so great to play! I have to force myself to play on my other bass sometimes, just so I don't neglect that one :)
The melody reminds me Alive and kicking)
sounds like peter hook bassline!
It does actually! :)
I am just learning the bass, and I am a lifelong Cocteau Twins fan I would love to play this, I can tell this fingering is different than the Tabs I have found, does anybody know these? I love this whole sound, you do such a nice job Benjamin!
Thanks Ryan. I don't don't do tabs. I just listen to the track and figure out what is being played and what sounds best on my bass. You can play it any way you find best, just as long as you enjoy it and find your fun in it.
Ah, I was just about to do this one. I was going to combine the two bass parts, but I think I'll do both separately.
Sounds like a great idea! Please post the link here when you've done it! I'd love to see (and hear) it.
@@benjisandk Apparently I forgot to reply. th-cam.com/video/XBotkbqVs9I/w-d-xo.html For some reason youtube stripped out the audio of the original song from mine but not yours.

Hello dear Benjamin Pedersen. I realized a tribute to Cocteau Twins for the album Stars and Topsoil. And you are in. I thank you very much for your beautiful video. Please visit the channel « Au champ de l’harmonie » if you want to watch it. Kiss and melody.
Beautiful! Thank you! 👍🏻
Watched a couple of your videos and it appears you're not actually playing your guitars?
Oh but I do! But not as much as the bass though. And I do put them back in their spot when I'm done playing them :)
Great job! :D Btw, what do you think of that bass guitar? Since I'm considering buying one and can't try it by myself any kind of advice would be welcome. Thanks!
I really love this bass! Three reasons: 1. It's dirt cheap, but the build quality is still very good. 2. It's shortscale -I love playing shortscale basses. So much fun. 3. It has a very round deep sound that i really like. I've put flatwound strings on it for the same reason.
This is a bass for that "old" warm boomy sound. If you want a bass with snap and something for say slapping, this is NOT the bass :)
But otherwise I think it's a scoop. Check my newest video for more of that bass sound: goo.gl/RZnPjJ
Benjamin Pedersen I like that old, round vibe and don't like slaping anyway, so it might be right for me :D Thanks very much for fast respond :)
You're welcome! Go for it! I ordered it online without having tried it at all, and I haven't regretted it for one minute! :)
I have the same . great bass, but problem with the G string that vibes metallically on the fret. makes a metallic vibration and an awful sound.
I've put flat too
