Great play Benjamin! And really thanks for sharing everything. Tears for Fears are a great band. I remember them in the early 80s and I wasn't not even a teenager yet (but I have an older sister, so I've started listen to her records before to turn 10 ; P ) I confess that I really discovered T4F's songs (lyrics and music) just later on during mid 90s, after a few years of bass playing. What a great band!!!
Thank you for a fantastic tutorial. I admit I was looking for tab first as this song has been one of my fave bass lines for a long time and I was anxious to play it... I had trouble following your fingers in some places so I had to sound it out by ear, which while slow going, was hugely satisfying in the end - so thank you for that! Your bass tone is gorgeous and I enjoyed watching you groove along. 🔥😎
Juliette BH You are welcome! I'm glad that the tutorial helped you and that you figured things out yourself as well. That IS a very satisfying feeling and one that helps you move forward in your bass playing. 👍🏻 And thank you for your compliments -much appreciated ❤️
You, sir........nailed! Tone and groove are spot on! Excellent 👌👌👍👍 I just bought the Allen Woody Rumblekat and can't wait for it to get here, if it gets half the tone you're getting, I'll be more than happy!
Interesting and nice to see this bass being used outside of a rock/blues/classic rock sound. Love it and thanks for recording the tutorial. Sounds really good.
Super 👏 really enjoyed that!! Looks like you love playing that! Great song,we’ll played. (Only came across this as I was researching the Allen Woody bass , hoping to pick one up next week😁👍) kind regards, Andy.
@@andycoogan Cool! Glad you like it! Andy If you ever feel inspired, try it with flats on it -just like mine :) I know it's not what Allen Woody would have wanted, but I think it gives it a really cool sound on that bass.
@@benjisandk thanks again! 😁👍 that’s what are on it , I picked it up 2nd hand, in great nick with flats on 😁👍they really suit it.. also, I paid €250, very happy indeed..
@@benjisandk just bought one...off a local facebook market..mint shape...need to adjust bridge but sounds great ! will still take your advice and get some flats !!
Thank you! Yes, maybe the flatwounds needs a little getting used to. I really like the deep fat sound they produce and the bass sits better in the mix, whether you are playing live or you are recording in the studio. A mix engineer will cut that high sizzle of your strings out of the mix anyway ;o)
@@benjisandk I ordered an Epiphone Embassy bass just to get a different sound in my collection. I wasn't happy with the build quality of the bass when it showed up, the store sent it back and I'm waiting for a new one hoping that the poor quality was an anomaly. But hearing this I'm kind of interested in exchanging it for a Rumblekat. How would you rate its quality compared to more expensive basses like a Fender or Gibson?
@@Owenwithee There is no doubt that this is a cheap instrument. The build is ok but you find the usual "misses" that you find on cheap instruments. The frets from fret 12 and upwards wasn't polished properly and was a bit rough on the edges. I fixed that with a little sandpaper. But I knew that this could be an issue so I wasn't to disappointed with this. I would never ever compare the build quality with more expensive basses from Gibson and Fender, there is a reason why it's so cheap, but then again it is fine for what it is. And most importantly, it plays and sounds very well, so I'm very happy with this instrument.
Benjamin Pedersen so I received the replacement Epiphone Embassy, got it set up and I absolutely love it. I agree here and there they didn’t use the most high end hardware/electronics. But it sounds amazing. Considering a bridge upgrade because the intonation adjustment could have a little more play- I’m already as far back as the bridge pieces can go. But for 375 bucks I’m incredibly happy.
Not at all, no! At that price level I don't think you will find any bass with such great tone and playability! Put some flat wound strings on it and it will give those nice warm and deep bass tones. Go for it! :)
@@ThePaulromi I use Daddario ECB81S, but others like the La Bella Deep Talkin Bass strings. There a lot out there but just remember to get short scale strings for the Allen Woody bass.
That's probably true, p bass is the motown standard in everyone's book. It's great that you play different styles on this, that are not Allen Woody songs. I just really like watching videos with the bass, since I really consider not playing normal scale basses anymore, discovered a 32" scale jazz bass style and feels much more comfortable for me. Really thinking this epiphone could cover my needs for a p style bass with flats, since I already own the j active style bass with rounds.
Very nice feel and playing, such a great bass part... Did you have to do much truss rod adjustment when you put the flatwounds on the Rumblekat? Nice P Bass on the wall there too!
Thanks man! Much appreciated! No, I actually didn't have to do any adjustments when I put on the flatwounds. The string action is on point and it plays like a dream.
@@benjisandk I bought a D’Addario shortscale tapewounds for my Rumblekat. But the silk sits on the bridge saddle and dampens the sound a lot. What model of strings are you using?
@@Irkennalpha It's the strange thing with shortscale strings -you have to be very careful about making sure that the length from the saddle to the end of the strings on the bridge matches the length of strings and especially where the silk starts. I had the exact same problem with my new Mustang bass and the La Bella short scale strings I was given: They didn't take in account for the through body strings there and was too short so that the silk also was sitting on the bridge. The strings I'm using on the Rumblekat is the Daddario ECB81S flatwounds. The fit perfectly and sound amazing!
@@benjisandk Thanks a lot for your reply. I was trying to find the correct model of the strings I have installed on mine (D'Addario ETB92S) which are tapewound strings for short scale basses, if everyone else is interested on putting this model on a three point short scale bass it won't fit, just for the record. It has to due also to how close/ to the body are the intonation saddles, mine could do it if it weren't for a couple mm. I'll check the model you provided, and see if they fit in my bass. Thank you very much for your help! BTW how's the mustang bass, I'm also thinking about switching to that bass or a Squier Bronco with tape wounds. Cheers!
