  • Joseph Smith was the first prophet and President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. As a young teenager, he was visited by God and Jesus Christ. He dedicated the rest of his life to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ, and his legacy continues to influence the world for good.
Joseph Smith was born into a large Christian family in 1805. As a teenager, he wanted to know which of many competing churches to join. While studying the Bible, Joseph read a passage of scripture encouraging him to “ask of God” (James 1:5). He prayed and received a miraculous answer: God the Father and Jesus Christ appeared and taught him that none of the churches contained the full gospel. From that time forward, Joseph dedicated his life to restoring the true gospel of Jesus Christ.
Joseph received many revelations from the Lord that clarified eternal principles, such as the importance of baptism and temple covenants. He translated an ancient record, now canonized as scripture, called the Book of Mormon. The Lord also sent Apostles Peter, James, and John to restore the priesthood-the power and authority to act in the name of God. All these steps were necessary for the official organization of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in April 1830. Joseph was called as the first in a line of prophets who continue to receive revelation from God for all His children. He served as prophet until his death at the hands of a mob in 1844.

Thank you for this video. Just a question. My mind cannot comprehend why God needed another prophet like Joseph Smith to restore the "fullness of the Gospel". Isn't that what the Son of God came on earth to do. Jesus came to restore what mankind lost. That's why He shouted out "It is finished" on the cross at calvary. Sending another prophet to restore the fullness of the Gospel would mean that what Jesus did was still incomplete! Can any mormon shed some light on this please!

"Mormon" was an ancient prophet and has been dead for some time, but as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I can offer some help. Jesus was referring to His mortal ministry and Atonement when He spoke on the cross. We can be sure He wasn't referring to God's work overall, because Christ Himself came back after His resurrection and charged His disciples with carrying on His work in His Church. And they did, for a time, until the apostles were killed and imprisoned. Jesus came to provide something that no other person on Earth could--Atonement for our sins, so that we can repent, and the resurrection, so that we can rise again from death. Prophets in our day continue God's work under the direction of Jesus Christ.

"By their fruits ye shall know them." Matt 7:20. Moroni told Joseph Smith that his name would be had for good and evil throughout the world. Joseph Smith was persecuted for sharing with the world that he had seen God the Father and Jesus Christ. He boldly proclaimed that God speaks to us, his children, today through a prophet of God. The Book of Mormon, which was translated by Joseph Smith, is God's word to us today. It is the fruit by which we may know that Joseph Smith is indeed a prophet of God. Christianity is based on traditions, some of which are biblical, ie. recorded in the Bible, and some which are not. The nonbiblical traditions are a mixed bunch; some are true and some are uninspired. We need more knowledge from God to determine which are which.

Well, if you haven't read it, then it makes sense that you wouldn't know what God has given us in it. The Bible is wonderful, but only happens to contain what writings scholars could find to compile together. The writings of the Bible actually suggest the opposite of what you said. Paul, in 2 Timothy 3:16, said, "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness". The apostle John's last written words, in John 21:25, were, "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." When you do read the Book of Mormon, you will see why God wanted us to have His word that is in it.

@@imoutbye That is a wonderful question! But first, a few quick thoughts for you. When other writings include portions of the Bible, such as the Dead Sea Scrolls, do you call that "plagiarism"? The prophets of the Book of Mormon felt it was important to quote other, earlier, prophets, which is actually pretty normal; Jesus Himself quoted earlier prophets. Citations and plagiarism are very different. I'm happy to give you some more information about the Book of Mormon; Joseph Smith was commanded to be cautious with the gold plates but also to show them to others, and indeed he did. They left their own testimonies; you can see another Now You Know video about it here: th-cam.com/video/IZHsYATJNFA/w-d-xo.html. Also, while Joseph Smith did use a seer stone part of the time when translating the Book of Mormon, there was much more to the whole process; if you want, I can find a link to a page that lists multiple accounts. But back to your great question! How do we know that it is legitimate scripture? That is the key. Do you already believe in scripture? How do you know it is true? The final prophet to write in the Book of Mormon was Mormon's son, Moroni. He knew that he had to bury the record in the ground, but before he did so, he left a promise to those who would one day have the record--us. In the last chapter of the book, he wrote this: "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." We study the Book of Mormon and then ask God in sincere prayer if it is truly from Him, and He answers us. Millions of people have done this, and you can also. It will have a wonderful impact on your life. I would encourage you to read the Book of Mormon for yourself.

The Church of Jesus Christ is not deceptive. You pointed out that the Church has made Gospel Topics Essays available specifically to be informative. You also brought up topics that include a lot more than can be covered in a video that is only several minutes long. This video was intended to be a brief introduction that covered the vital points. Frankly, the various topics you raise can often be understood without much effort and end up not being particularly important when compared with the vital work that Joseph Smith did. For example, polygamy: most people in the world are part of religions (Christianity, Judaism, Islam) that accept polygamy to some degree, which is evident in scriptural accounts of ancient prophets (like Jacob/Israel, for example). People might not think about it that much, but it's in their scripture. Do we need to run down every rabbit hole in a five-minute video? I don't think so. Does the video state the important points? Yes. Is the Church actively using modern technology to provide information to everyone? Yes. The effort is ongoing. Joseph Smith's seer stone, for example, has been mentioned in at least two other recent videos by the Church.
Does everyone need to know every detail of Church history in order to have a relationship with Jesus Christ and become His disciples? No. Learning is good, but learning and doing some things must have a higher priority than others.

I am happy to share what I know with others and learn from them when possible. From my own experience, I can tell you and anyone else that it is possible for us all to receive personal revelation from God that will help us to learn absolute truth. I don't expect or want anyone to simply take my word for it. Other people have very strong convictions, stemming from various sources; for my part, I do a lot of introspection and I try to be humble as I study and ask God for guidance. This is a favourite among the Christian Church. To suggest that revelation ended with the Bible; let me ask you 3 questions:
      1) Does God love us less than those in the Bible?
      2) Do we need God as much as they did?
      3) Is God the same yesterday, today, and forever?
If the answer to these questions is yes, then the idea that revelation ended with the Bible is nullified.
In regards to the verse, this is not "another Gospel". The Book of Mormon is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as is the Bible. It is another testament, meaning witness of Jesus Christ, but not another Gospel.
This verse is better applied to Islam and the Quran.

I am familiar with what the bible and the LDS church teaches. There are some major differences that causes me to be deeply concerned about where LDS followers are going to spend their eternity.
The bible teaches we are saved by grace, through faith, it is the gift of God so man can boast. Ephesians 2:8-9. The LDS church teaches that you need to work for your salvation.
The bible teaches that God doesn't change and has always been God. The LDS church teaches that you can become a God of your own planet.
The bible teaches that satan was a fallen angel. The Lds church teaches that satan and Jesus are brothers.
The Lds church teaches you need to do temple works and rituals but the bible teaches us that we don't work for our salvation. You cannot tell me that the Book of Mormon compliments the bible when there are clear contradictions.

What I find most amusing about these comments is that there seems to be a misunderstanding in the natural dysfunction of people back then in all areas. It’s like we expect history to be this perfect puzzle with no errors. We are a naturally fallen people. Our culture has developed drastically and I find it completely preposterous that individuals expect people to be these perfect individuals when it comes to re-establishing a church.
As a fellow member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I have struggled immensely with some of the past teachings and historical events. And I’ve seen and studied it all. But I’ve found that focusing on the present and the progress of the church is so much more fulfilling. It is Christ’s church. Not Joseph Smith’s. God called imperfect people and I don’t believe in a God who micromanages every action He gives people. He sometimes lets them figure it out and fail and help them in the things He believes are most important.
To all the antis out there. Live the way you want! Just understand people sometimes do things that may seem peculiar but are motivated by love and purpose. We have no right to criticize others without understanding the full context and without checking ourselves first. If you don’t believe in it, that’s completely fine. You have your own journey. And you aren’t gonna find any joy in demonizing others who are also on their own journey. All of us just need to let it be.
I’m not perfect. The church history is not perfect. In fact, I almost guarantee your ancestors were more dysfunctional than you realize. And we learn from that. As much as Joseph Smith is praised he was STILL a dysfunctional person who did really stupid things. But he also did great things.
I don’t know all things but I hope someone finds some ounce of comfort in reading this. I am constantly searching for truth from as many religions and as many texts I can grasp. I am a skeptic and a believer. And there’s nothing inherently wrong with that. I hope whomever reads to this point knows how valuable they are. You have a capability to do great things. I believe that comes from your parentage as a son or daughter of a Heavenly Father and a Heavenly Mother. Christ loves you. Never forget that.

@@Ada-kw9rx This is a great opportunity for you to learn! Many people misunderstand what Jesus meant when He said that He and the Father are "one". We have references even in just the Bible about people seeing Jesus and the Father together, such as Stephen before he was stoned to death: "But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up steadfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the fright hand of God,
And said, Behold, I see the heavens opened, and the Son of man standing on the right hand of God." (Acts 7:55-56) When trying to understand the unity of the Godhead, one of the best passages of scripture is John 17, where Jesus prayed to the Father for us. Verses 20-22 are particularly helpful: "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be cone in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one". Jesus wants all of His disciples to be united just as He and the Father are! We can achieve this someday, but we come closer as we learn to submit our will to that of the Father, just as Jesus did, so that we can be united in purpose. Joseph shared and documented this heavenly manifestation, the First Vision, as it came to be known, on multiple occasions; he wrote or assigned scribes to write four different accounts of the vision. The various accounts of the First Vision tell a consistent story, though naturally they differ in emphasis and detail. @Ben Goins, as the essay explains, the various accounts of the First Vision tell a consistent story, though naturally they differ in emphasis and detail. Historians expect that when an individual retells an experience in multiple settings to different audiences over many years, each account will emphasize various aspects of the experience and contain unique details. Indeed, differences similar to those in the First Vision accounts exist in the multiple scriptural accounts of Paul’s vision on the road to Damascus and the Apostles’ experience on the Mount of Transfiguration. Yet despite the differences, a basic consistency remains across all the accounts of the First Vision. I think it is very important to note that Joseph Smith’s family moved to the burned-over district of New York when he was about 12. People engaged in ecstatic forms of worship and the area was a springboard for religious experimentation in America. One of the widespread beliefs that was very deeply founded in the burned over district was that that land was once occupied by an ancient tribe - older than the Native America tribes. And there were a lot of treasure hunting that went on in this area of which Joseph Smith participated. Joseph Smith and he being persecuted while the others were not is one of the many reasons I can testify Joseph Smith was a prophet.
When Christ began preaching in Jerusalem the people were astonished and the Pharisees were terrified because Christ's teaching was taking the flock, so the Pharisees wanted Christ destroyed.
As soon as Joseph began preaching the things he had to say were taking the flock from the other churches making the other churches feel threatened.
There's so many parallels in what Christ experienced during his preaching and Joseph during his.
Jesus is the living Christ as the head of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, He has given the world prophets, seers and revelators to guide us through the last days, and that the fulness of the gospel is restored.
    Amen.

Sounds like something someone who hasnt studied the Book of Mormon would say, but instead of making such an accusation, I'll ask: have you actually studied the Book of Mormon: Another testament of Jesus Christ? And reguardless of such, Joseph would have been rather determined for a conman. From age 14 onward he would spend the rest of his life being pursecuted in some way. Between being kidnapped a number of times, placed in jail for a prolonged period of time in inhumain conditions, being forsaken by close friends constantly, and finally being murdered in cold blood for excercising his American 1st ammendment rights, (and of course I could go on), you really don't think he may have been telling the truth? Have you actually studied the man? There is an excellent book called "Joseph Smith the Prophet", by Truman G. Madsen. If you would actually care to do some research on lesser known details of Joseph Smith, I would reccomend it. As well, you will find a noteworthy talk by Ted R. Calster titled "The Book of Mormon: Man Made, or God Given?" In this talk, the author outlines clearly the superhuman powers the farm boy prophet would have needed to have, just to produce the Book of Mormon. I am sure you might be a decent fellow, so I do wish you the best, and hope that even if you are not willing to change your opinion, you will choose to further your own knowledge by looking into the rescources I've mentioned, particularly The Book of Mormon: Another Testament of Jesus Christ. I would like to share with you my personal testimony of Jesus Christ. I know Christ lives, is the Savior of Mankind, and that because He is the Same yesterday, today, and forever, (Hebrews 13:8, KJV) He calls prophets and reveals His word today, even as in ancient times.

When we learn more about Joseph Smith we find that he was far from a perfect man and yet still called by God to do a great work, and we see the results of it in our time. Faithful members of the Church of Jesus Christ don't heed simple insults and we rely on revelation from God. I've seen some interesting comments and I have some interesting questions I have to ask. First I am not a person who likes to label my FAITH". I am just simply an open minded Christian.
    My questions are;
    1. Do you guys believe in Hell?
    2. In the Bible God says Jesus is Word and word became flesh. Does that mean Jesus is'nt word that we needed another revelations from God through Joseph Smith?
    3. I understand that the Bible says there will be other prophets. To be exact this was after Jesus death. There will be other prophets but never said a thing about writing another testimony.
    4. Why in all of Galeli and the places Jesus minister, why did He had to hide his word under the Hill to make the world confuss?
    5. In the Bible it says, that the word of God is spiritual. Did Joseph Smith missed that Bible verse?
    6. Say that the revelations was true. Why do the doctrine Mormanism say that, if you're not Mormon you're not perfect.
    Also,
    7. Why do Mormons always trap others with the material of this world trying to convert them?
    8. Why if you're not baptize in Mormon you're not consider perfect? Or you're not going to Heaven? I mean, nobody in this world is perfect. Can't you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your Lord and only saviour and be baptize with the Holy Spirit and not Go to Heaven? Was what Jesus say or did not enough that we needed the BOOK of Mormon?
Again, say the Revelations was true.
    9. Why do we need a gold plate temple to go worship and connect with Jesus when Jesus told us to Worship Him through Faith in Him alone?
    10. Did Jesus lie when He said, there is no marriage in the Kingdom of HEAVEN?
    11. When we go to Heaven is it not enough that we're one big family in Jesus? Why do we need to have parents, when we have God as our only father and we're finally at Home with the father in Jesus name?
    12. Also, where is the golden plates?
Sorry for the questions but I find this more intrigued. Shed some lights plz. thanks

That is a lot of questions! I do recommend that you visit the links posted by the Church above; you will be able to find a *lot* of information there. I will sort out a few things for you right here, though.
      We do believe in Hell.
We rely on revelation from many prophets, including those of the past who wrote scripture and those who live in our time. Writings of the Bible do indicate that there is other scripture that is not contained in the Bible and that there will be more to come.
The gold plates were hidden in a hill to preserve them; this hill was in what we now call North America. The surviving people of the time would have destroyed them, so they were buried to be protected.
"In the Bible it says, that the word of God is spiritual. Did Joseph Smith missed that Bible verse?" Which verse are you talking about, and why would you think Joseph Smith might not have read it?
No members of the Church of Jesus Christ (whom you are calling "Mormons", though that is a nickname) never claim to be perfect. We also don't do anything that could be described as "trap[ping] others with the material of this world", though I'm curious what you have in mind when you say that.
If you read the Book of Mormon for yourself, you will see exactly why God gave it to us.
The gold plates and temples are separate things. Members of the Church of Jesus Christ worship God all the time in our homes and we meet regularly in church buildings together, but temples have a special purpose that you can learn more about.
No, Jesus didn't lie, but you've misunderstood what He taught about marriage.
The gold plates were taken by the angel Moroni.
Again, you should visit the links provided above to learn much more. I wish you the best.

This so silly. If God did deal with early inhabitants of America's, why were the Native Americans limited to totem poles and peace pipes? Also it is hilarious that of all the places the book of mormon could be, it happened to be almost literally in his back yard. The fact that he saw God the Father as a MAN during his first vision really sums up the heresy of this religious cult.

    • @00Fisher00
      @00Fisher00 ปีที่แล้ว

I'll be very happy to explain why it isn't silly or hilarious and why the Church of Jesus Christ is not appropriately labeled as a "cult". Among the people that Christ visited, eventually they turned to wickedness and rejected the truths He had taught. They warred with each other (as humanity is wont to do) and the surviving peoples were not those who had a culture of record keeping. It is not a coincidence that the plates were located near Joseph Smith's home; we had to wait hundreds of years for the establishment of a nation that ostensibly promoted religious freedom and for a suitably prepared young man to be in place to serve as the prophet of the Restoration. The fact that Joseph Smith saw God and Jesus Christ is enormously helpful to us in understanding the nature of God, especially given the great confusion that exists in the world about who and what the true God is. Concerning the word "cult", please feel free to define your usage of it and explain how it applies to the modern Church of Jesus Christ; as you consider it, you will find that it is not a suitable term at all.

Now there were seven brothers, and the first took a wife and died childless, and the second, and the third took her, and likewise also the seven did not leave children and died. Finally the woman also died. Therefore in the resurrection, the woman-whose wife will she be? For the seven had her as wife.” And Jesus said to them, “The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage, but those who are considered worthy to attain to that age and to the resurrection from the dead neither marry nor are given in marriage, for they are not even able to die any longer, because they are like the angels and are sons of God, because they are sons of the resurrection. But that the dead are raised, even Moses revealed in the passage about the bush, when he calls the Lord the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob. Do you really have such faith in humanity as a whole to recognize truth and embrace it? People had the Savior of the World, Jesus Christ, with them in life and yet put him to death. As to evidence, there are many historical records about Joseph Smith's life and the Church of Jesus Christ has made it available freely online. The real evidence about anything spiritual, though, can only come from God. Would you like to know how God provides that evidence?

Honestly, I used to practice at an RLDS church for many years, and it taught me a lot! For folks who grow up in other sects and churches, it prolly does sound a little weird maybe (I think, too, possibly because of proximity in time), and I too have since switched up quite a few of my world views pretty dramatically, it’s just the nature of things I guess 😂
the main thing that I really appreciate is having a really passionate and empathetic regard for others, and the confidence to choose my own direction via treading new waters (metaphors of mission trips and J Smith’s entire biography, ya feel?)! Mormon churches and their communities are by far the kindest folks ever, there’s a warmth to it that I have yet to see anywhere else, aside from a random summer undergrad/grad choir here at FSU, that caught major feels too lol.
Anyways, I know people really get after Mormons, but for all intents and purposes, Mormons today are really dope people! Some of my best childhood memories were when the elders in college/highschool age would roll through, and race me and my friends on bikes, or the one time that my parents pressured one of them into doing an oil blessing on my head for some reason, it was good times!! I don’t mean any of this to be against you j-dawg, I just see this stuff pop up a lot, and wanted to put in a good word for the homies, thats all!
Stay safe, and I hope recent times haven’t been too trying 😂😂 I’m glad things are on the upswing, but hot damn!

I think that sometimes it depends on where their faith is truly founded. What we should be doing is praying to God and receiving a witness from Him, and continuing with that strength even when we don't understand everything we want to. However, some members of the Church have been essentially just "going through the motions" and participating out of habit and social pressure. That kind of practice doesn't hold up under stress. Anyone can turn to God to receive knowledge from Him, but, like Nephi saw with Laman and Lemuel, the sad reality is that some people simply don't turn to God when faced with uncertainty. You're right that more information is known now than ever before, and that can be a great thing for us.

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints study the Bible all the time, and we mostly use the KJV. Any good student of the Bible knows that its books make reference to other books of scripture which were not available when the Bible was compiled by scholars. We still haven't found existing copies of them. When we know of some missing parts by name, it really doesn't make sense to say that "His word is complete". But why should anyone reject more of God's word when He gives it? Why should we reject the Church that Jesus established? Why reject anything He gives us? The apostle John said this at the end of his account of the life of Jesus Christ: "And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which, if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen." (John 21:25) In Revelation, he also prophesied of the day when an angel would restore the full gospel so that it could be preached across the world: "And I saw another angel fly in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach unto them that dwell on the earth, and to every nation, and kindred, and tongue, and people". My advice? Accept what God gives us. If you're not sure if something comes from God, you can find out for yourself.

@@00Fisher00 The gospel is all about obedience of Jesus' personal commands to you. The Holy Spirit will convict you, and you can obey or disobey. Usually for me its something I don't want to do (because my sinful heart would rather please myself). Or it'll be something like this:
“But to you who are listening I say: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, 28 bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. 29 If someone slaps you on one cheek, turn to them the other also. If someone takes your coat, do not withhold your shirt from them. 30 Give to everyone who asks you, and if anyone takes what belongs to you, do not demand it back." To do these you really do have to deny yourself, deny your feelings, your pride, your greed, your self-righteousness.
This week I was convicted about giving. I felt a prompting from the spirit to give to someone, and I chose not to, without a second thought. God showed me later that I was actually disobeying him in that moment. I repented and asked for help, that next time I had a command from Him, that id obey. Next time I have to deny myself and follow Him. This is is what Jesus was talking about when he said "Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

I am looking for a response from a "The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints" representative in a pressing question I have had, but have had insufficient time to inquire of my church leaders. I have been lds my entire life... born into the covenant. I love these videos and the information provided here. I was recently engaged in a discussion with a powerfully intellectual atheist... he fell away from the church right after his mission. He spews so much false information about the church on the internet, that he has led many people away. He dedecated two years to extensively study church history to find ALL the fabled "flaws" of Joseph Smith and the early church leaders. He is a "make known the lies" machine... he dedicates much of his time to "liberating" people of this "false" religion. Even cites all of his sources too... literally a modern Korihor. Lol. I didn't have an answer when he addressed a "failed" prophesy given by J.S. It was the one about the temple in Independence Missouri that was supposed to be built.
On April 30, 1832, Joseph Smith prophesied that a temple would be built in Independence, Missouri before the current generation passed away:
"4 Verily this is the word of the Lord, that the city New Jerusalem shall be built by the gathering of the saints, beginning at this place, even the place of the temple, which temple shall be reared in this generation.
5 For verily this generation shall not all pass away until an house shall be built unto the Lord, and a cloud shall rest upon it, which cloud shall be even the glory of the Lord, which shall fill the house." (D&C 84: 4-5)
To this day, it is owned by an offshoot of the church... and is still a cornerstone. I have a strong testimony of the gospel, of the divinity of the Book of Mormon, and the fact that Joseph Smith was a prophet called of God to bring to pass the restoration of the gospel. I know these things to be true, but I still have this question... why did the prophesy seem to fail? Is there someone still alive from that generation? There are many cunnning philosophies of men which can be easily dismissed... but this one stumped me. I have also not put sufficient research into it. If anyone reading this would like to impart of the wisdom of the truth of this mystery, (and has sufficient knowledge in church history and the revelation) it would ease my troubled mind.

    • @00Fisher00

Hi, David. Renee is correct in her comment above that terms like "this generation" don't always carry the meaning we first associate with them when we read them. Jesus Christ prophesied Himself of His second coming in Luke 21; he spoke of many signs that would precede His coming, and then in verse 32, "Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass away, till all be fulfilled." Frankly, I"m not 100% sure of every nuance behind the meaning there, but I don't believe that it's false prophecy. Most people who cite Joseph Smith's "false prophecy" very much believe in this same prophecy made by Jesus Christ that uses the same language. The fact remains that some prophecies have already been fulfilled, and others have yet to be fulfilled. I will not be surprised at all when a temple is built at that site.

      Hi David,
I don't see anything that contradicts what Joseph Smith said, because it never says in those words that the temple would never be in the custody of someone else besides the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for a time.
What I say is stick to the basics. The Book of Mormon for example was translated by a very secularly uneducated young man, at the time he translated it. His wife declared that she knew of no notes, or drafts. It was translated remarkably fast, and even a theological, scholarly genius could not have translated a book like that in such a short time, with such distinct people, places and facts. Read Tad R Callister's talk in general conference a few years ago about the Book of Mormon. However when it comes down to it the Gospel of Jesus Christ isn't meant to be proven or disproven, like facts are in a court of law. This is precisely why mortal life can be so challenging, but yet so doable through Christ. We have to act on faith, and that is precisely how he designed it to be. Of course you could say, how could a cosmic accident somewhere in the universe, "create" life on earth in its immense complexity, and biodiversity. That's like asking a Swiss watchmaker, how much Dynamite he used to make his incredibly complex watch. God's fingerprints are all over on the Earth, and in the heavens.
      I hope this helps.

He never said there would be no more prophets. The entirety of the New Testament was written after Christ left, including the prophecy of John that we call Revelation. Christ did warn of false prophets, but let's take a look at His actual words: "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them." (Matthew 7:15-20) Some of the most important "fruits" of Joseph Smith were the translation of the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. As you get to know them, you will find that they are indeed good fruits.

One of his recurring messages has been to stress the importance of personal revelation, and shortly before the pandemic hit the world, President Nelson emphasized that our worship should be centered in our homes, and the Church provided a curriculum that was designed to help members study in their homes while synchronizing support from the rest of the Church with what was suggested for home worship. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced people to worship exclusively at home for a time, we had the resources we needed. It was indeed amazing.

Got a question that is for all Christians but especially to the LDS; why do prophets have the luxury of witnessing the miraculous and supernatural while the rest of us have to believe the prophet's declarations solely with faith? In other words why did Moroni talk to Joseph Smith but not to me?

    • @churchofjesuschrist
      @churchofjesuschrist  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hi William S, thanks for your question. Whatever our individual mission or calling on earth, we believe each person can know the truth of all things by the power of the Holy Ghost (Moroni 10:5). The witness of the Holy Ghost can be powerful, lasting, and life changing. Although such revelation can have a powerful effect on us, it almost always comes quietly, as a “still small voice” (see 1 Kings 19:9-12), even for the Lord's chosen servants. President Nelson, the living prophet, has taught, "Whatever our Church calling, we can pray to our Heavenly Father and receive guidance and direction, be warned about dangers and distractions, and be enabled to accomplish things we simply could not do on our own. If we will truly receive the Holy Ghost and learn to discern and understand His promptings, we will be guided in matters large and small." Does that help answer your question? • @Nebiros21
      @Nebiros21 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

@@churchofjesuschrist Not really for two reasons: one is that the "Holy Ghost" being that still small voice exists in other belief systems and yet the church declares exclusive ownership to it meaning it should only give one answer when in reality it does not. The second is that no matter how powerful the Holy Ghost's revelation you claim is, direct visual and audible revelation will always be more powerful. This creates an elitist human hirearchy which I can never hope to climb. It's similar to the Jewish claim to be chosen to be priestly people by virtue of birth rather than merit.

    • @00Fisher00
      @00Fisher00 5 ปีที่แล้ว

@@Nebiros21 Sure, many people seek guidance from the Holy Ghost in other religions. However, other religions do not encourage their members to seek to know the truth of their religion by asking God. The final prophet in the Book of Mormon wrote as he finished the record that those who read it can pray to God to know if it is true. No other book makes this claim, and certainly no other book has had this claim proven independently by millions of people. Visual and audible revelation can be important, but is usually an impediment to faith unless a person has demonstrated faith already. As to hierarchy, I'm wondering if we discussed this before, but in context I don't know what elitist hierarchy you're referring to.

@Anom Anom You are asking the really important question. Jesus Christ, after warning about the dangers of false prophets, said we would know them by their fruits. What did they bring about? Was it of God? Some of the major works that God did through Joseph Smith were the translation of the Book of Mormon and the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ. Anyone who reads the Book of Mormon finds a promise at the end from the book's final prophet, Moroni. In the last chapter he wrote before burying the book in the ground, he said, "And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." The only way to know if scripture is truly from God is by asking Him. Millions of people have done so for themselves, and received answers to their prayers. You can, also. In addition to the Book of Mormon, I've been able to see what God does through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the United States and the world, and it is wonderful. Granted, He leaves it to us to make use of what He has given, but every time we do, we are blessed in very real ways. You can learn a bit about the Church by visiting ComeUntoChrist.org, but I strongly recommend that you get a copy of the Book of Mormon and find out for yourself whether it is true by asking God in prayer. You can get a copy for free at that site, and you can read it online at ChurchOfJesusChrist.org/study/scriptures.

I see parallels in our doctrines and personally, since the Quranic story of the prophet Hud appears to have a pre-Islamic root and, since it has some similarities with the story of Lehi, I think the story of Hud may have it's roots with an oral tradition surrounding Lehi's travels.
