I'm not so sure that Thrall would have considered anyone else for the job. He had this thing about Hellscream's son becoming a great leader of the Horde. I personally don't understand how the writers can make sense out of Varok Saurfang not being the first choice to replace Thrall. They could have at least mentioned him declining the offer or something, but for him to be completely passed over for Garrosh is just silly. Hell, Eitrigg too, for that matter.
"You speak of justice? Of cowardice? I will show you the justice of the grave, and the true meaning....of FEAR". The Lich King's voice is awesome in this vid, and it gives me chills from hearing it.
Saurfang raised his boy right. A lot of people forget that even though Grom sort of redeemed himself before he died..he was still a massive asshole, and Garrosh was more like his father than Thrall would ever want to admit.
This is quite simply one of the greatest moments in World of Warcraft, it's truly upsetting that WoW will never reach this level of epic again but I'm glad I was there to see it.
The first time I saw this i was on a horde character and i dont have faction pride and i dont RP but when i watched them charge in and do the big battle cry it kind of gave me goose bumps. this is by far one of the best story lines Blizzard has put into WoW and i can only hope MoP has more like this.
This cut scene was one of the most important and emotional cutscenes blizzard ever made. Not just because if the lore (for those who read the books) but it had so much purpose and meaning. Every second felt intense. You really feel bolivar rage for justice as he finally closer than ever to fighting arthas and leading the alliance to victory and serving justice.
I BLEEPING MISSED THAT! OMFG! If there is ANYTHING in all of warcraft I would want to experience it is the wrathgate line! Damn, I cant believe it! AND BLEEP YEAH! FOR THE FORSAKEN BABY! There is Alliance, there is Horde, and then THERE IS THE FORSAKEN!!!! LONG LIVE THE DARK LADY!
THIS is why i loved wotlk arthas was such a well developed character and after doing the dragon blight quests you grow to love fordragon and the saurfang and dramatic moments like this make me love wow and the wow universe
Dranosh Saurfangs entrance with the Horde soldiers is so fucking cool. Gets the troops super pumped, retained good relations with the alliance troops as well, and generally just kicks ass. He just cleaved 3 vrykul in one blow. From what I know about this guy, no wonder that Thrall saw him as an ideal successor as Warchief, had he still been alive at the time. "Rise up sons of the Horde, blood and glory await us!" *Horn blows* "LOK'TAR OGAR! FOR THE HORDE!" - Dranosh Saurfang, at the Wrathgate.
I love this cut scene, first time i saw it i was gobsmacked at how they captured this epic event sending shivers down my spine. Blizzard make some damn top notch cutscenes
That Undead speaking is so epic, that I will make my warlock a male undead as soon as I have that full tier set...been wanting one ever since I first saw this cinematic.
@TheGreatCrow Didn't you do this quest? It's followed by the Battle for the Undercity which ends with Varian trying to kill Thrall. Then there's Ulduar trailer (youtube it). After that alliance vs. Horde relations are tense. That's why we get a new BG, and the new raid (ToC) is PvP themed. Even tier 9 is PvP themed. Then in ICC there's the Gunship Battle. Right now the Alliance and the Horde (thanks to Garrosh) are at war. If you want to know why read The Shattering.
@GrafitiWall A lot taller. If you did the quest with Drakaru in Drak'Tharon Keep you'll notice that in the end when Thrall makes him a Scourge commander Drakaru suddenly gets a lot bigger. I guess the same happened to Arthas over time while he was sitting on the Frozen Throne.
@Ultimaton100 I know a lot about a lore. I'm the ultimate lore-nerd. The Battle of the Undercity happened around 4 years ago (lore-wise), and at that time Thrall was Warchief. After Arthas was killed, the Alliance and the Horde went into a treaty. Garrosh broke that treaty in his conquest for Ashenvale. "The Horde hever did anything like that crime." O really? Again, I suggest you go to Gilneas, Silverpine, Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, and especially Stonetalon.
It was in "The Shattering". Thrall defines Dranosh as a brilliant star or something in the sky of Horde warriors, clearly refering to him as the perfect choice for the Warchief position. The choice that he didn't have (Thrall's exact words).
@Ultimaton100 And as for the declaration of war, in case you haven't noticed, the Alliance and the Horde have been at war since the beginning of WoW. That's kind of the theme of the game. The war hasn't ended until the treaty shortly before The Shattering. Although the Horde and the Alliance have had events where the ally together (the Might of Kalimdor, the Wrathgate) they still stayed in war. The war just got less tense. Garrosh just ended the treaty and made the war a lot more tense.
@GamerGeek2012 I would suggest looking up the questline requirement on thotbott or google it..sadly though you can't do the battle for undercity anymore which was da bomb!
@DeathKnightSothPwns During Vanilla/BC when Varian wasn't there and he was an NPC that replaced him for the time being, he had mana aswell as Retribution Aura (Or the aura that damaged you when you hit him), But as far as I know, that's the only thing that implied him being a Paladin
The Most Holy Light is a believe system that goes beyond such petty notions of gods, be it one or more, commanding our fates. The Light teaches unity and connection of each and every living soul and the self-perpetuating good that we should all strife for by following the Three Virtues. Shamanism is ancestor worship combined with the reverence of natures forces as separate entities. Even that primitive notion though can be reconciled with the Light, as Far Seer Nobundo has shown.
Thrall said so in one of the books. something along the lines of him having no doubts in naming Dranosh as Warchief had he still been alive as opposed to the doubts he had with Garrosh . Besides Thrall wouldn't have named Saurfang , he was to old. Both of them knew that so it was never discussed. He probably wouldn't have accepted anyway.
@Minemun1 This is why you should read quest text. Alliance Leader: Bolvar Fordragon Horde Leader: Saurfang the Younger (Grom is dead) Arthas resurrected DIFFERENT corpses, as well as the ones that were not damaged enough to be useless. You have to remember, the Lich King is, for all intents and purposes, a god. Arthas showed up because he was challenged and to demoralize the armies. The Forsaken took the initiative to ATTEMPT revenge. Arthas COULD have died, if not for his indomitable will.
Blizzard. Your new expansion is soon on the way. Whatever you do. Of all the epic things you do in this new expansion.. please.. PLEASE make another quest line like Dragonblight. I have never ever been more satisfied with questing in my whole life. IT WAS SO GOOD!
"Did you think we had forgotten? Did you thing we had forgiven? Behold now the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken! " "Sylvannass!" One of the most epic moments in WoW
If anyone is a bit confused. The Undead was Grand Apothecary Putress, and the "poison" he used was not just the ordinary Plague, but the Blight. Which has a much more faster devastating effect on living. It can kill a man in second and no bones left. This person has attacked Arthas because Lady Sylvanas Windrunner has escaped from Arthas' grasp, that is why Arthas said "Sylvanas". More will be explained in another post, because of chat limit.
High Elves still exist, you can find plenty in Stormwind. They rejected Kael'Thas (or simply weren't in Lordaeron when he formed the Blood Elves) and control their addiction to magic through meditation. There aren't many left, but they do exist.
@JPOGFan Right... after launching a full campaign and waiting 2 years of WotLK to kill Arthas, you want him to escape? I'm sure everyone would get mad if he did.
Did you think we had forgotten, did you think we had forgiving. Behold now the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken DEATH TO THE SCOURGE AND DEATH TO THE LIVING!!!
Most epic moment in WoW
Arthas is just a human with the spirit of an orc within him.
Dat forsaken warlock doe.
At least Bolvar didn't go fucking neutral.
"You speak of justice? Of cowardice? I will show you the justice of the grave, and the true meaning....of FEAR". The Lich King's voice is awesome in this vid, and it gives me chills from hearing it.
no matter how many times i watch this i always get the goosebumps.
"Did you think we had forgotten? Did you think we had forgiven?"
Sends cills down my spine every time.
Best expansion ever.
so much memories, so much to remember.
GOTTA LOVE WOTLK.
This cinematic alone remade the badassery that the alliance and the Horde are capable of!
did you think we had forgoten? did you think we had forgiven? Behold now, the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken!
such a poet
Unquestionably the best cinematic ever conceived by man.
"I will show you the justice of the grave, and the true meaning of FEAR."
Amazng.
I am the only one who still gets actual shivers when the riders chant 'For the Horde!'?
Had?! It's been YEARS and I still get goosebumps!
LOK'TAR OGAR!
I always loved the way Putress delivered his lines in this. "...Did you think we had forgotten?"
"i couldnt let the alliance have all the fun today" deff in the top 100 best lines in wow XD
The first time I saw this i was on a horde character and i dont have faction pride and i dont RP but when i watched them charge in and do the big battle cry it kind of gave me goose bumps. this is by far one of the best story lines Blizzard has put into WoW and i can only hope MoP has more like this.
2:40 love this epic voice! and the t8 from this class is king
My favorite is still:
"You speak of justice, of cowardice; I will show you the justice of the grave, and the true meaning of FEAR!"
this pumps me up....
bolvars last breath was heartbreaking
saurfang is beyond tough. fearless and i love it. Lok'tar ogar!!!!!
I quit WoW a year ago, but this whole story, it will always have a place in my heart. :)
@bongobeaver I still get chills hearing this line.. This, and the "For the Horde!" warcry from all of the wolf riders.
LONG LIVE THE DARK LADY!
hahaha ikr! also love the line "ARTHAS!! The blood of your father, of your people, demands justice! Come forth coward, and answer for your crimes!"
That line gives me goosebumps everytime..."Sylvanas!!"
whoever did the voice acting for the grand apothecary is my hero
Oh man how much i wish that this quest was still in the game i loved the hole questline, best content ever :(
The ''For the Horde'' even made me, an alliance lover, get a chill on my spine ;)
THIS is why i loved wotlk arthas was such a well developed character and after doing the dragon blight quests you grow to love fordragon and the saurfang and dramatic moments like this make me love wow and the wow universe

"Rise up sons of the Horde, blood and glory await us!"
*Horn blows*
"LOK'TAR OGAR! FOR THE HORDE!"
- Dranosh Saurfang, at the Wrathgate.
"Death to the scourge, and death to the living!"
That quote will forever remain my favorite from any in-game cinematic.
I love this cut scene, first time i saw it i was gobsmacked at how they captured this epic event sending shivers down my spine. Blizzard make some damn top notch cutscenes
Grand apothecary Putras. I miss being able to go to undercity and fight him. Was epic.
@Pwnzone15 whats BoA? ive heard it alot but never knew what it is
That Undead speaking is so epic, that I will make my warlock a male undead as soon as I have that full tier set...been wanting one ever since I first saw this cinematic.
Still gives me goosebumps...FOR THE HORDE!
Its been years since ive read the book. All I remember that there was 2 last names
Fordring and Fordragon
damn lol
I would like to see a film done in this style of animation or a televisions series. I would like to see the Defias brotherhood as an arc.
i love that sound when the Yimirjar come out to play
Man Bolvars speech is amazing :D!!!!And also this pvp gear for alliance looks great!!!!
I love how Arthas is like Uhghhhhh.. Screw you guys i am going home
A moment you can NEVER truly forget : FOR THE ALLIANCE !!!
Thanks for the reply and the explanation.
The wrath gate is one of the best moments in WOW!!!!
I've watched this over and over for years just to hear those Vrykul yell.
whats the name of that red orc thats sad let it be finished hes realy cool!?
Honor, heroes. No matter how dire the battle, never forsake it.
@TheGreatCrow Didn't you do this quest? It's followed by the Battle for the Undercity which ends with Varian trying to kill Thrall.
Then there's Ulduar trailer (youtube it).

Is there a more action packed and emotional cinematic? Or is this the best one?
This is one of the best ingame cinematics in gaming history. If not the best.
To this date it is perhaps my favorite Warcraft cinematic and makes me proud to have been a forsaken. "Death to the scourge and death to the living!"
I was really hoping to see more from the Old Gods this xpac.
They might as well make a movie, their editing on angles are professionally done.
Wow I can't believe that was Bolvar. He looked like an epic paladin. But I saw that shield smack and then saw that he was a warrior.
I got goosebumps when Arthas uttered the words "Sylvanas!"

and there goes one of my favorite lore characters....RIP Bolvar Fordring
It was in "The Shattering". Thrall defines Dranosh as a brilliant star or something in the sky of Horde warriors, clearly refering to him as the perfect choice for the Warchief position. The choice that he didn't have (Thrall's exact words).

The forsaken are backstabbing traitors for sure, I agree with you.

I still get goose bumps when Arthas realises and utters "Sylvanas..."
because she is the most baddasss woman on wow
am wondering wats soundtrack/singer of the background music from this time 3;40 till end
I had goosebumps when I watched this...
Such a powerful story... This is what I miss in modern gaming. Well done Blizzard.... Well done...
He probably wouldn't have accepted anyway.
the first blow was a uppercut..... EPIC!
This is prob one of the most bad ass cinematics!
Putress has the coolest voice ever.
@Minemun1 This is why you should read quest text.
Alliance Leader: Bolvar Fordragon
Horde Leader: Saurfang the Younger (Grom is dead)
Arthas resurrected DIFFERENT corpses, as well as the ones that were not damaged enough to be useless. You have to remember, the Lich King is, for all intents and purposes, a god. @Carthedicce
His eyes were glowing because he's wearing T1 I don't recall if its the warrior or pally set, but the helm had the bright blue eyes.
Blizzard. Your new expansion is soon on the way. Whatever you do. Of all the epic things you do in this new expansion.. please.. PLEASE make another quest line like Dragonblight. I have never ever been more satisfied with questing in my whole life. IT WAS SO GOOD!
Did you think we have forgotten?... Did you think we have forgiven?... Behold now the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken!
Me too! "FIGHT ON, BROTHERS!"
Still gives me chills when he says: Logtar'ogar FOR THE HORDE!!!!
"Did you think we had forgotten? Did you thing we had forgiven? Behold now the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken! "
"Sylvannass!"
One of the most epic moments in WoW
"May the Lord of the Black Land come forth, that we may see justice done upon 'im."

Question: Is undercty created on the ruins of Lorderon?
@JPOGFan Right... after launching a full campaign and waiting 2 years of WotLK to kill Arthas, you want him to escape?
I'm sure everyone would get mad if he did.
Can someone tell me the name of the orc warcheef?
I need to know how to animate like this
It would be really awesome if the Horde and the Alliance could work together like in this video.
Who is the forsaken skeleton talking, ive never seen him before.
What happened to that Orc at 3:07
This cinematic honestly my favorite in any expansion right now
Whats the name of that Orc leader?
Did you think we had forgotten, did you think we had forgiving. Behold now the terrible vengeance of the Forsaken DEATH TO THE SCOURGE AND DEATH TO THE LIVING!!!
Ha Did you think we had forgotten? - this is the best part
What about Menethil? Proudmoore?
God, I fucking LOVE when he says "Sylvanas." Like: ohhhh you sneaky bitch!
