  • As our politics descends further into mutual incomprehension, can theology still shed fresh light on the meaning of political life? How do the challenge of God's law and the promise of the gospel challenge the quest for autonomy that dominates modern society? Join us for a lecture by Oliver O'Donovan, one of the world's pre-eminent Christian ethicists, as he shares deep wisdom for Christian faithfulness from years of service at the intersection of the church and the university. After the lecture, Chris Ganski, Pastor of City Reformed Church in Milwaukee, will interview Prof. O'Donovan about some of the wider challenges of Christian witness and faithful citizenship facing the church today.
After the lecture, Brazilian theologian Ruan Bessa (Calvin Theological Seminary) will dialogue with Prof. O'Donovan about some of the wider challenges of Christian witness and faithful citizenship facing the church today.
Oliver O'Donovan held posts at Wycliffe Hall, Oxford and Wycliffe College Toronto before becoming Regius Professor of Moral & Pastoral Theology and Canon of Christ Church at the University of Oxford in 1982. He was Professor of Christian Ethics & Practical Theology at Ediburgh from 2006 to 2012. An ordained priest in the Church of England, he is the author of numerous books that have helped define the field of Christian ethics: Begotten or Made?, Resurrection and Moral Order, The Desire of the Nations, the Ethics as Theology trilogy and more.
This event is being co-sponsored by The Center for Pastor Theologians, The Davenant Institute, Bethlehem College & Seminary, and Anselm House.
Anselm House exists to help students and faculty at the University of Minnesota connect faith & knowledge with all of life. For over 40 years, Anselm House has sought to wholeheartedly serve the University of Minnesota from the center of campus. From the very beginning we’ve endeavored to help the campus community-from freshman to faculty-make meaningful connections. Our story is one of gathering, educating, and sending out whole leaders for the whole of life.
