This is a way overlooked, modern crime classic and it's fitting that you both dug deeper than others to react to it! Thank you for your impeccable choices in film and sharing your perspectives. Your channel is fantastic and I wish peace and positivity to both of you.
Cannot say overlooked, it was at the time in like top 5 somewhere after There Will Be Blood, No Country For Old Men, Sweeney Todd/Grindhouse with more serious movies (Grindhouse was kinda confusing for general audience, but Tarantino so). There was a ridiculous amount of competition in 2007 and actually a bit overlooked were like Sunshine and Jesse James and the coward.. or Into The Wild because you have to blend in all mainstream and genre movies too to see how well something did. Like eyes are divided, not as many people went into movies atleast every month as I did. For example Number 23 or Paranormal Activity got sooo much attention. Transformers and especially Simpsons Movie were like events. American Gangster was not really overlooked back then since people wanted to see Denzel in This kinda role and Ridley directing, so, it just wasn't (I went to also see this back then). Mostly the two first mentioned of No Country and There Will Be just took almost all of the attention as masterpieces. American Gangster might have been more like more so forgotten with times with how good it is. When like Zodiac got much of no love back then and now is much more in know of a movie and apprechiated. It really was crazy how little people cared about Fincher Zodiac, but well, the year.. Movies of that year were crazy in terms of movement for having to go watch to see the big mainstream ones, genre ones, indie ones, comedies and then so called serious more mature movies. Leaving out the above ones. Spiderman 3, Fantastic Four: Silver Surfer, Gone Baby Gone, Eastern Promises, The Darjeeling Limited, Disturbia, Superbad, Juno, Michael Clayton, Mr.Brooks, Rush Hour 3, Rendition, We Own The Night, Bean's Holiday, The Mist, Hot Fuzz, Ghostrider, Next, 1408, Atonement, Smoking Ace's, Ocean's 13, Knocked Up, 300, National Treasure, 3:10 To Yuma, Charlie Wilson's War, Alpha Dog, I Am Legend, Shooter, Bucket List, Beowulf, Death At The Funeral, Before The Devil Know's You're Dead, I'm Not There, In The Valley Of Elah, Perfect Stranger, Savages, Kingdom, Control, Man From Earth, Funny Games, Pirates Of The Caribbean 3, Die Hard 4.0, Harry Potter 5, Bourne Ultimatum etc. Like you can see that even if back then came a lot of solid movies in a year, 2007 is one where it's almost unfair to be released 😂 With that competition (not all of them are good, but many were big movies). You have to divide all those eyes for how many movies one goes to see a year and then something like Before The Devil Knows You're Dead which is Fantastic last Sidney Lumet movie is not even really on peoples radar like that.. Atleast it was not back then (I don't think still is). Regardless of all that, American Gangster was a very big, people went to go watch and liked movie.
That was President Nixon at 24:56. Reagan didn't preside over Vietnam. LBJ, Nixon, and Ford did. Reagan presided over the Civil War in Nicaragua where his VP knew about extasy and cocaine that was being made into crack and shipped here in the US that VP was George Bush. Bush 1 used to be CIA director. So its unclear that Reagan knew of the shipments. Personally I think there was a 50-50 chance that Reagan knew what Bush was doing. I was in supply in the Air Force at this time sending supplies to Nicaragua. Worked with the Contras here in the US through their assigned base supply officer. We airlifted a lot during that fight. Evidently some people took advantage of return flights.
Such a great film. It's also no coincidence that when the US invaded Afghanistan during the early 2000s, the heroin trade skyrocketed in the US. There's an interview with an American solider online where he's asked why he and his men were guarding the poppyfields, and his answer was along the lines of "these fields are a part of their culture and we must respect that". A convenient cover story.
One of the best movies to depict a real true story! You did a good job understanding, and knowing the character is very well… Even guessing what might happen next! Enjoy your channel very much… I don’t know if you’ve done the Godfather yet… Best mafia movie ever! Godfather two as well ‼️
Problem with Vietnam was that most troops were drafted (forced to go) and as the war dragged on, already non existential moral plummeted even further. Soliders started looking for anyway to make a quick buck and drown their misery. Ripe for exploitation my friends
During late 60s L. A. area was where the drugs were cause it came across the Mexican Border but in early 70s the little town of Lakewood, Washington became the drug capital. I lived less than 2 miles from both the Army and Air Force. McCord AFB Washington a transport hub with cargo planes , now using C5 Galaxy. All the drugs were flowing in body bags and in military gear that nobody was checking.
If you want to watch a movie where Denzel doesn't lose in the end, watch The Equalizer. There are 3 of them and they are pretty badass, Denzel goes John Wick.
In reference to the scene when Frank shoots Tango in public: Tango was known as the most disreputable thug in the neighborhood. He wasn’t a good businessman, he was crazy and would always stiff people on debts because of how dangerous he was. Frank knew this, and he wanted to run his new operation without people trying to rob him. So he gave Tango some heroine to sell knowing he would refuse to pay him, also knowing normally Tango would try to kill people who tried to collect from him. Frank asked for his money, Tango came at him, Frank was ready with his gun and killed him. Frank made an example out of Tango, and no one tried to steal from Frank, nor would there be a dangerous wild card causing problems for him around his territory.
25:55 Swiss guy here :) While i dont think they give out drugs directly, they have needle excanges where people can get fresh and clean needles, so they dont keep using the old ones, which would spread diseases, most problematic of which would be HIV i guess. And they have rooms with medical personel to monitor people who take drugs to prevent them overdosing and giving them aid if needed. But i think they might provide them some alternative "drugs" that would be safer than some junk heroine off the street. They also provide education and programs to quit drugs, not from 100 to 0, but slowly. There are of course mixed opinions about that approach. From what i hear at least it seems to be working well enough. Definitely better than just leaving them with no help or just arresting them. Works not for everybody of course.
1:28:30 What has happened in Syria is heartbreaking. I hope they bring everyone to justice for all of those who have suffered. If that is even possible.
Yes, trust me we Americans know what our government has done in the past wi the persecution & imprisonment of people with mental health & substance use issues and have made great progress since then but still need to do much more. These are typically good people with families that got addicted bc of stuff like this and need the communities help. Love your reactions brothers!
People commit crimes, (some) people get punished for their crimes. Until the end of days, and we as humans keep on trying to do it as best as we can. Because the alternative is no real option. Until a higher authority may or will take over (depending on what one believes).
Great movie choice, but if you'd like to see what heroine truly does to people maybe you should watch "trainspotting" as it depicts the side of the "users" of such drugs, and not just the side of the suppliers....... Btw: please also react to "there will be blood"
Yo bros if you want another similar great true story movie about a huge drug mover it's called "Blow" with Johnny Depp. Another one, but not a true story is "The Departed" with DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin, Mark Wahlberg. And directed by Scorsese. One of the best gangster movies ever. And hey if you didn't recognize the main cop from American Gangster is the same guy from Gladiator! This was awesome. Great editing as always.
In a world that equates worth with economic success but denies people the tools (and opportunity) to achieve it, violence becomes (a means to an end and) a coping mechanism for the void left by the unobtainable American dream.
Fun fact: Frank could not read or write and the cops buddy overdosed because Frank's blue magic was soo much stronger than anything else on the street at the time.
Following this, you should watch American Made, a Tom Cruise film, it connects with what president Reagan and vice president George Bush senior were up to in Central America, a great fun film as much as something historic.
Great movie but depicts the Italian mob of that era very inaccurately. At this time in NYC they were unbelievably powerful and the end all be all of criminal power. Not now but at that time they were on par with their cousins in Italy.
No CIA connection to this case. C'mon man enough with the cia in every reaction. Enough with all these conspiracy theories. I surprised you didn't think Kevin in Home alone was a cia agent lol.

Great choice for a reaction video

Vietnam war lasted from 1955-1975. Usa started getting super involved in the war in 1965.
The Chinese also fought in 79
Red, that was Richard Nixon not Ronald Reagan.

Correct. Men of true faith and God regardless of religion are not corruptible.

Did you guys recognize the actor that played Lewelyn from No Country for old men was in this movie too.
You dudes should also check another Russell Crowe as a police detective movie. L.A. CONFIDENTIAL an excellent movie.
You should check out LA Confidential.
The big metal boxes were coffins.
Guns were transported in wooden boxes back then. Also notice the size of the metal boxes.
I like how Denzel is the Training Day guy,Russell crowe is the gladiator guy.Josh Brolin, no country for old men. They know no names.😂
Denzel is funny asf and ice cold😂 Nice reaction guys🤌🔥
If you want to watch a movie where Denzel doesn't lose in the end, watch The Equalizer. There are 3 of them and they are pretty badass, Denzel goes John Wick.
The piano instrument is interesting in this movie, I find it funny how Richie's base of operations has one and so does Frank's apartment 🤔
Great reaction. Glad we finally have an actual legitimate reaction channel react to this movie.
alcohol and cigarettes destroy lives too.
agreed, along with lost minds and souls
Not a corrupt Army Muhammed Ali, just a small number of members of the military.
Good choice, guys!
Like that you guys react to stuff most don’t. Suggest then John Adam’s HBO mini series next. No one has done it yet
You should watch “Blow”. That’s a great, true drug story as well.
Serving a warrant can be pretty BLOODY BACK IN THE DAY
The car Red wad wondering about was a Volkswagen "squareback" station wagon.
Another great true story starring Russel Crowe is “Cinderella Man”. Great movie!
Good pick guys excellent and a true story 👏
If we're sober, hardworking, taking care of our family and responsibilities, we can live a wonderful life.
Its Crazy Denzel Washington just turned 70 years old he looks great
