    Craig, I’ve been a devoted fan of these bubble-arch escorts since owning my own in 1973 as a young adult, after falling in love with the Alan Mann and Broadspeed Escorts back in the day. (All of my school books had sketches of them on the front covers -my teachers weren’t impressed ha ha!) I’ve seen and enjoyed checking over maybe 30 or 40 excellent examples since then but buddy, yours is the very finest to date. Thank you for sharing your pleasure with us 👍😊🇬🇧

    Coming along well..glad you choose a proper exhaust system, I have a single box 2.5" simpson with manifold system..it is a beast of a thing, the welds are a work of art and it sounds 👌..

      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Really great to hear that. The welds are pure engineering porn 🤣🤣🤣 id love to be able to tig like that. Whats the manifold like in the standard battery location?? Im just hoping it clears the battery tray. Judging by photos it does look miles away. Do you have the battery in the standard location??

      Battery is in the boot, however from the slam panel to number 1 primary there's 11" I think that's more than enough on a standard batt tray, the welds are unholy, and it turns gold after a while, you won't regret the ££

    Just saw an interesting post on Facebook and thought about you , and thought this would be perfect for your escort. All about fitting mk3 mondo salon boot struts to the bonnet hinges and doing away with the bonnet stay. They are meant to be the perfect balance holding the bonnet in any position.

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah that would be a cool idea. They are really short struts aren’t they?? Ive seen them fitted and it looks like a decent idea 👍

      @@antmk2dreaming614 I really like the idea of it. My only concern is that the full weight of the bonnet is then transferred through the bonnet hinges which are only spot welded to a 1mm steel bulkhead. Just makes me wonder if it would eventually cause cracks to the hinges or bulkhead

    Hi Craig. Thanks for finding the master cylinder box for me. Ive got one on ordre now! I was wondering where you sourced the brake pipe union/junction fitting that sits underneath the master cylinder? Many thanks!

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Matt, pleased you got sorted. The brake pipe unions come with the master cylinder. You will however need to adapt the rod that fits to your pedal, but this is easily done if you have the original and a welder 👍

  • @1968spikey
    @1968spikey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    brilliant work Craig!
    Surely high pressure compressed air would've been better on the axle?
    Wouldn't a machined spacer address the drum to backplate gap?

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 👍 The problem was the grit was stuck to oil and Grease on the insides. It took around 2 hours of pressure washing to get it all out 🤦‍♂️

    • @1968spikey
      @1968spikey 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@performanceclassics1986 I'd tape it all off and fill it up with degreasant, stand it on its end and leave it to soak for a few days - that stuff sticks like sh*t to a blanket, and ANY abrasive grit anywhere in your axle will play havoc with it.

    Hi ya, great videos, I was looking a little help, could u tell me were did you get your master cylinder from? Or what is the part number for it? And does it let u connect the rod onto it like the early mk1 escort without the servo tower? Thanks

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks 👍. It came from GS Escorts and Part number is 260-4894. It’s a willwood item but as you can imagine, no servo means you need a heavy right foot for breaking. Now then, there is a small mod to do regarding the rod. You use the new rod that comes with the cylinder and fit it to the ford end that attaches to the pedal. Is there any way I can send you a pic of how I done mine?? Really easy, just need a tap, a nut and a good mig weld and it fits a treat. I did cover it in a video but I can’t remember which one

  • @dennisbjones
    @dennisbjones 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Amazing build Craig. That looks pretty close to the colour of my long forgotten project Mk1 in my shed (that I hope to get back to some day). I don't remember the orientation of the brake lines on mine and it's a bit hard to get to to see the lines but I think you may have them the wrong way round. Wouldn't the feed from the master cyl go on the bottom and then out from the top to go to the other side? The way you have them, I don't think you will be able to bleed the air out properly so that it all gets out at the top of the wheel cylinder and then over to the other wheel cylinder through the bottom port and out the top through the bleed nipple.

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Dennis. I had exactly the same thought about the brake lines, so i looked at google images of other cars and they all look to be the same. I completely agree with what your saying, as i thought exactly the same. Also if i put them the other way around, the lines will have to cross over. I suppose i can easily change it if they wont bleed up properly 👍

    It's gorgeous. How will you keep it clean on our shitty roads?
    Did you use copper brake pipe? I used Kunifer which is harder to bend but much stronger. I also fitted brass unions as the steel ones just rust.
    Ps don't use Silicone brake fluid. My brakes were crap and I had to change it out for DOT 4

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Andy. Keeping it clean is probably the biggest challenge of all. Its a nightmare with the mini. Yeah i just used copper brake tube as ive always found it really nice to work with and flare. I actually have silicone brake fluid in the mini, as it doesn’t take paint off. Its always been fine in the mini but i cant use it on the escort. That willwood master cylinder says DOT 3 only, so thats what il have to use.

      Thanks Matt. Sorry for the delay in reply I’ve been meaning to ratch the box out since you asked. Its a wilwood master cylinder with a part number of 260 4894. It’s an almost direct replacement other than the fact you have to adapt the rod to fit your pedal. If you have an original rod, it’s pretty easy to do👍

    Hi Craig the car is looking great what willwood master cylinder did you use

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Many thanks 👍. The willwood master cylinder part number is 260 4894. You just need to adapt the rod that it comes with to fit your own pedal box but this is really easy if you have the end of an original Ford master cylinder rod. One of my videos shows how I did it and only involves drilling, tapping and a decent mig weld 👍

    Don’t alter the brackets on the axle, make up or modify the tramp bars! How are you mounting the shockers?

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wanted to alter tramp bars instead but it wasn’t possible as the brackets on the Axle were in the way of the shockers. They mount onto the bottom clamp on the leaf springs, up to a bracket on the underside of the boot floor. In the end i had no choice other than to remove them and weld them back on in the right place 🤦‍♂️

    • @gordonbradford4054
      @gordonbradford4054 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@performanceclassics1986 ahh so you are using “slope & hope” shock absorbers, I would have been looking at the later type which are nearer vertical. There were 2 types of shocker turrrets fitted by Boreham, The original MK 1 s had inboard turrets where the turret was inboard of the chassis rail. These were superseded by the outboard turrets.
      Sorry about the comment re the brackets, I posted it as soon as I saw what you were doing instead of waiting until the end!

    • @performanceclassics1986
      @performanceclassics1986  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gordonbradford4054 No problem Gordon. I can tell you know what your talking about so all comments are appreciated. I would have preferred the later design with the turrets as i believe the bracket that mounts the shockers to the boot floor has a tendency to crack. The body-shell has the earlier mounting set up, so i just left it alone as it was.
