- The 1 Naya Paisa coin was introduced in 1957 when India was undergoing a shift in its monetary system. Prior to 1957, India’s currency followed the Anna system, which divided one rupee into 16 annas. However, to align more closely with the metric system, the Indian government decided to decimalize the rupee. As part of this new system, the rupee was divided into 100 paisa, and the term "Naya Paisa" was introduced to distinguish it from the earlier "paisa."
The 1957 Naya Paisa coins were among the first decimal coins issued in India. Over time, the prefix "Naya" was dropped as the older coins were phased out, and the paisa became a standardized unit.
The Washington Quarter was introduced in 1932 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of George Washington’s birth. It was originally a commemorative coin, but its popularity led to it becoming a permanent part of U.S. coinage. By the time the 1979 Washington Quarter was minted, the design had seen several decades of circulation, but it remained one of the most widely used coins in America.
The 1979 Washington Quarter was part of the Clad Composition series that had been in place since 1965. This was after the U.S. Mint transitioned from using silver to a copper-nickel alloy to reduce production costs. While earlier quarters contained 90% silver, post-1965 versions, including the 1979 quarter, were made of a copper core with a nickel coating.
