Hello, this is Easter Sunday and I decided to watch your video. Why? I heard that you give straight talk almost like a good preacher. What you just related to me and others is so unusual. That is, you have given us the truth about memoir writing. I am so happy to get this information. I thank you for clarifying why the entire memoir needs to be written. I am not a celebrity and I've begun to work on improving my platform. All that you have stated is a big "push" for me in the right direction. I thank you, so very much! Good preaching is what we new writers of memoirs need to hear. This is the REAL, REAL.
Good info. I'm actually surprised that people think they don't need to have the memoir written before pitching it. I am on my third major rewrite of my memoir because I kept changing the format until I figured out the best way to tell the story. When I finish, then I will pitch! It seems common sense to me that an agent wants to see your writing before committing to anything. Anyone can come up with a good idea. Not anyone can write it in a compelling way.
Thanks for that wisdom. I just completed writing mine, in the final editing stages now after several revisions. Just now looking at the sales part. I will be working with my editor on that part. My background is 35 years in broadcast TV, first attempt at writing beyond TV news and commercial copy. I was mainly a cameraman/editor/producer.
I think people get caught up in the idea of platform or if an essay or something goes viral, they want to make the most of that and rush the proposal... but that's why i think wait to get those big platform pieces up until you HAVE something to send when the interest comes!
@@LouisaDeaseytv Really smart. My website is just kind of "there" waiting, mostly. I use it to promote my older book, and do some book reviews, hoping it counts as a writer platform when the time comes to start pitching my memoir.

It needs to be edited, organized, then shopped around for publishing opportunities. Is this outside of your area of interest? And how much do you typically charge for the various components of the services you provide?
