The brand new episode of Fairly OddParents: A New Wish just introduced Adult Poof, all grown up, now going by the name Peri! Godparent to Dev Dimmadome, Peri wants to help turn his life around and earn his dad's approval, but will Peri's own lack of communication with Cosmo and Wanda cause him to be a bad influence? A villain?! And what can Hazel do to mend this fairy family? Let's breakdown Poof's new design, his new name and what his role in the series could be!

@@DogLover-d6b I think it would be weirder if this wasn't the case, honestly. Poof has a great intro, but once we see him regularly I get the feeling he'll be a joke character. Like, he has this suave, cool guy personality, but he's actually just a huge idiot.
I can't wait to see where Poof (now Peri) will go in this series. It is great to see him again and now he's adult. That is amazing. I hope he has his mom's intelligence and Common Sense. He has his father's creativity . He also needs to be a charmer and fun to watch as well like he was when he was a baby.

I can imagine that Poof falling out with his parents probably has something to do with Timmy. Timmy was there from the very beginning of Poof's life. He's the reason WHY he exists, but Timmy had to grow up and I can imagine that was hard for Poof to take. Cosmo and Wanda had to say goodbye to many god kids, but not Poof. He can't even see his godbrother anymore.

Wow, this is actually the greatest theory I’ve ever heard and it makes total sense.
Poof was literally brought up, with Timmy as his surrogate older sibling, so of COURSE he’s going to feel like Life has lost its color after Timmy grew up and moved on. What’s better about this theory too, is that it connects everything together, to allow Timmy to return and make a cameo in the series so we can see what he’s been up to…!! 😊 Great Theory!! 10/10
I Hope we get some official closure as to how Timmy has grown up and who he’s become in the years he’s been away from Cosmo and Wanda. This show was my childhood and nothing hurts me more than saying goodbye to the characters that made life so fun for me and granted me so much happiness.
But it’s something that still happens nonetheless, so I guess I’ll have to bear with it, and see where the show takes the story of the Fairly-Oddparents from here.

I had felt like they should have allowed Timmy to take on some business with the Fairies as some kind of a liason, but honestly, I had NEVER imagined that the suits would allow the show to move on past the Turners in the first place. The real ramifications of a post-Timmy Poof hadn't even crossed my mind
Another issue that would’ve lead Pari/poof to act like this is the fact that the person he saw as a big brother doesn’t remember him anymore so I hope they bring that up in the show at some point

I can see Poof/Peri unintentionally making things worse for Dev on the basis that he still must be new to god parenting. He simply doesn't have the experience or wisdom that other fairies have, and that'll almost certainly play a role in his dynamic with Dev.
If it does turn out that Poof/Peri is estranged from his parents on his own terms, it could make for an interesting conflict between the two. Dev might wonder how his godfather could just throw away loving parents like Cosmo and Wanda, while his own dad barely gives him the time of day.
I mean, it could be that Poof/Peri hasn't changed his name legally (yet), and is legally obligated to say his name, but proceeds to say what name he prefers to be referred as afterwards.
This cool be a nice way of explaing the weird introduction, afteral we have seen cosmo and wanda being given to a kid multiple times and they always introduce themselves as "I'm Cosmo" "And I'm Wanda" so it would be in the rules for the fairies to give their names when meeting hteir kids.
They could also make him get REALLY mad when you call him Poof.
with him having a Locket, stating only 1 human in the world is allowed to call him that.

I thought it was so the audience would know he is the same character.
In the original series, Poof's introduction didn't make things any better, but it didn't make things any worse, either.

But I think Poof was done in a tasteful way. Plus they put in some actual godamn effort into the world building of the show to justify his inclusion.
Wanda and Cosmo wanted to take the relationship to the next level and then Kablam Poof is born.
It makes sense for the characters and his inclusion was never to intrusive and sometimes he would actually have plot relevant roles.
The other two... meanwhile we're kinda flimsy and just... so wrong.

Poof had an entire special dedicated to both him and the remifications of his existence, and the chapters that followed did tried to make use of the fact he was a baby and what shenanigans could come from it, and the show didnt bent to Poof's will, since we still had chapters without him with him in the background
Chloe and Sparky just came out of nowhere for the novelty and tbh they didnt did much with their concepts (with the exception of one chapter for Chloe) and twisted everything to them (specially sparky, that tried to retcon Crocker's backstory)
That’s the thing I appreciate with this show. It benefits from having a more continuous story and acknowledging moments from the original show. Dale was a one off moment that gets brought up only once after the fact. Doug made it his mission to ruin Vicky, even buying the rights to Icky Vicky.
Now they bring him back and show the trauma of Vicky hasn’t left this man.
Poof is in a similar boat because Poof was a Hail Mary attempt at retaining views and it also didn’t do much for the show. Fast Forward to modern day where they imply theirs been a rift between Poof and his parents with Poof reinventing himself probably as a result.
I really like the design of a grown up poof. He has such a great mix of the characteristics of Cosmo and Wanda. I hope he isn’t a villain or antagonist of any sort. Didn’t think the word Poof was a slur doesn’t even sound or look like a word that would be a slur. Peri is still a nice name I suppose.
In UK countries, including Australia, ‘Poof’ is used in a derogatory way to call someone ‘Gay’.
Understandable with the change. It would be like naming a character, in today’s times, Twink (or something similar); especially on a children’s show.

Another source of contention between platypus man and his parents is probably Timmy. I mean, to them, he was just another godkid, albeit the one they stuck with longest, but to him, that was his big brother, someone he grew up with and probably idolized, and now he can't even remember him, and Peri probably can't even see him that often

I remember from the original show fairies aren't allowed to reveal other kids' fairy godparents. You can imagine the tension when Peri realizes his child's friend has his parents as her fairy godparent or vice versa, but they can't reveal it to their assigned child

I feel that Peri might initially come off as overbearing because Dev is probably his very first Godkid assignment, and he wants to make his mom and dad proud, but ends up overcompensating in the process.
While as a fandom the name change is kind of annoying I think it works in universe as well.
We all know that Robert who changed from being called "Bobby" to "Rob" as he got older. As Poof got older he probably got tired of being seen as the baby of the fairy world and wanted a name that reflected him as an adult rather than a name to pointed to him being the youngest fairy in fairy world.
I love the idea of Poof changing his name because of the stigma. He most likely is embarrassed of being the last baby on fairy world and doesn’t want to live with the persona of a “baby.”
Which I also believe is a call to whenever famous child stars dropping a part of there name or nickname so they aren’t strictly branded as said name.

I have never watched this show or been a part of this fandom in my life but this makes a lot of sense and I agree.

I LOVE Poof aka Peri’s design. It is very similar to many peoples interpretation on how he was going to look as an adult.
However, not on the boat that he’s an antagonist maybe a little mischievous like the ideas that maybe he inherited Timmy’s not so great but still considered good attitude
Also, there’s a possibility that he could’ve joined his parents at some point during their (times) travels since we really don’t know the actual lifespan of a fairy on how long they stay as a baby to be fully grown

That aside, I find it funny Poof went from hated to beloved in like the span of 15 minutes. New Wish is certainly in a speedrun to redeem the franchise. My fave part is his wand. Love how as an adult the rattle translate into a scepter, and being so powerful on his debut (and being the son of a throne and a power), having an specialized wand like Jurgen makes so much sense

Cosmo is a thrones (as in that angel people like to use for their "biblically accurate angel" jokes. Is 2 wheels covered in eyes...and on fire. Their job is to carry God's throne) while Wanda is a power (a winged sword with an eye, tasked with fighting demons, protecting nations and in general, protect order)
This kinda explains why Wanda is the more sensible one (since Cosmo is quite literally too pure, being born to not see evil, thus making him naive, while Wanda is more in contact with the rest of the world below God's heavenly prescence, and literally exists to protect order ) and also why Cosmo is more powerful than wanda and why she needs him to grant big wishes (Thrones in the heavenly hiearchy are 3 tiers above powers)
Also, amusingly, it could mean Mama Cosma hates wanda because of clasism😂. She sees Cosmo marrying her "dating down"

I think him changing his name to Peri makes sense. His name being Poof was basically like naming your kid Goo-goo. So him wanting to change his name when he got oldsd alot of sense

Wish they kept the official reveal he’s Poof till later, like if Dev and Hazel are in a confrontation and both sets of fairies appear, only to have Cosmo and Wanda scream “POOF! SON!” And rushing to hug Peri, while he looks all awkward and embarrassed and complaining not to call him by his old baby name anymore.
Kinda wish they did that too... but I do love the introduction of Peri from a hype perspective. His cool jazz theme also helps too... so trade offs I guess.
Honestly I do love the confidence of exposing right there and then. It really feels in line what you'd expect from a FGP character. They've never been the most subtle.
If Poof ends up being a villain I hope Wanda smacks him so hard he reverts back to a baby cause I KNOW she raised him better than that

I didn’t realize poof was a slur... i just thought he changed it since "poof" seems like a very... babyish name especially since the only thing he could say as a baby was "poof"
So since he's older he didn’t wanna keep the baby name so went with something a bit different.

It's crazy how a character that was (mostly) hated by the fans is single-handedly reigniting the interest for the franchise as a whole. Best redemption arc in fiction hands down.
Was Poof really thay hated by the fans? I always saw him as an ok character. This only makes Poof 10x better than that in every way.
Poof wasn't really hated by the fanbase if you compare him with Sparky and especially Chloe. He wasn't the most liked character for sure, but definitely not as bad as his successors.

Everything about Adult Poof is just amazing!! First off, his design! He has cosmo’s looks and Wanda’s hair but with a tiny touch of cosmo’s hair. And by judging in his personality, he looks like he has cosmo’s fun personality and Wanda’s intelligence, which I think is a perfect combination. And he is voiced by Eric Bauza!!! One of my most favorite VA’s! Yea I know he voiced Anti Poof, but it’s awesome that he returned to voice adult poof! 😁
Now the theory about Adult Poof being a villain?… I hope that’s not the case, I just really hope Poof became Dev’s fairy just to make him happy, that’s all I hope for, cuz come on, dev deserves to be happy just like how Timmy deserved to have cosmo and Wanda cuz of the crappy life he had.
I have a alternative theory the reason I think poof and his parents arnt on speaking terms is because he’s mad that they had to leave Timmy because he saw Timmy as more a brother as opposed to a godchild

I think Peri is a great update to the character. And yes I agree his intro was kinda unnatural, it probably would have been better if they just kept it a secret that he’s Cosmo and Wanda’s kid till later. There’d probably be more speculation and buzz around the show in the long run.
Agree. It would’ve been more of a twist (with fan speculation upon the build up) if Peri’s identity was revealed later.
He’s introduced as Peri to Dev, spends a couple of episodes with him, and when Hazel, Cosmo, and Wanda later find out about Dev’s godparent, they final make the reveal that he’s Poof.
I don't even watch this show but the sheer nostalgia of seeing my baby boy Poof again grabbed me by the throat and might drag me into watching it 😭I was SO hyped as a kid when Poof was first born, and he went on to be my favorite character for the rest of the series. I'm so proud of him growing up into such a gorgeous young man 🥺

The funniest thing Foop could do, would be naming himself Winkle and be Peri's partner in crime in trying to take down the Fairy Godparent system

I also think he may have felt he'd be not seen as his own fairy, being compared to the great legacy his parents had/have as godparents and how he WAS the "Miracle" baby so people would want all these great things from him. And like any character with this story they either go evil and get humbled or be obnoxious and get humbled. Wonder which way the writers will give Peri. Also I kinda love his full name being Periwinkle Cosma-Fairywinkle, maybe showing that despite his feelings towards his parents he still loves them, he's just blinded by his new mind set and goals of what he wants.

I saw someone suggest Foop changes his name to SCARYwinkle, that seems like a cheesy name he'd pick.
I been watching the show and I've got a theory that Dev's mom is gonna be revealed to be Vicky, cause they've so far only focused on the Dimmadome side of his family, they've been quiet about his mom, it'd be a crazy twist is Vicky was his mom.
The teaser said that Vicky is coming so this might just be the case
But like Vicky was 16(?) and Dale was 10 (?) that'd be a huge age gap but, eh, who cares, it's a kids cartoon.

I do love they took elements from both Cosmo and Wanda in Peri's design. The eyebrows from Cosmo and the hair swirl from Wanda

This is my first time seeing the new series' art style, and I'm happily surprised?! I really like how they translated everything to CG.
I love how well Perry combines the visual attributes of both Cosmo and Wanda. The hair swirl itself, while coming from Wanda, actually differs from hers in one notable way- Wanda's swirls from the bottom and curls over itself, but Perry's swirls from the top curling UNDER itself, as well as the strands of hair pointing off the top of the swirl, both of these traits coming from Cosmo's part. Then, the back of the head is slightly more sharply-angled like Wanda's, but has the eyebrows of Cosmo. Basically, they both got pretty much equal representation in the genetics of Perry.
Poof returning grown up in it would be an interesting character between Cosmo's personality and their hairstyle! That's perfectly cool!

I find it funny how when the Creator leaves the show it goes downhill, but when Butch Hartman leaves his own show it gets better

I think when Timmy grew up, it hurt poof[Peri]. Knowing the kid that wished for you to be born, and was like a older brother doesn't recognize you might have hurt poof [peri]. It could be why when he turned older he left his family shortly after.

Now I'm wondering if Peri resents his parents because they approached parenting him like they do having a godchild, since babies are rare in the fairy world. As in, when they start growing up, they get out of their life and move on.
Or they make a secret wish to never grow up.

There’s something I thought about that’s a combination of a couple of ideas. Peri is seemingly new to godparenting, and might not have the same foresight as his parents. What if Dev wished for those lucky boots to not exist? Cosmo and Wanda would know that just because the boots are gone doesn’t mean Dale will pay attention to his son again. Peri would probably grant it no questions asked, and maybe get confused as to why the intention of the wish didn’t work.
It's honestly really beautiful to see Poof/Peri all grown up after years of being seen as just a baby who says his name.
I can imagine how Peri and Foop met up,it will be some sort of Bugs and Daffy rivalry. Not just some sort of VA reference but just like the original series how two of them meet up. But this time with this smart ass and sarcasm of Peri. Just imagine the Oddity?
Poof is back with a brand new look and a brand new name, Peri.
I like how he has both Cosmo's and Wanda's hair features and has a Pilot Cosmo like voice and charisma.
I didn't know poof is considered a slang word in other languages; I guess that explains why we didn't see Poof a lot during Chloe's seasons.
And yes. Foop's new name will be Irep.

Peri introducing himself as Poof the moment he came on screen was an immense blunder. Imagine how much more exciting it would've been to build up to a reveal bit by bit, letting him grow into his own character first, getting the audience to know him better and picking up on subtle clues he would drop every other time that hint at his real identity.
Instead they casually killed off what could've been a genuinely cool 'oh shit' moment for no explainable reason. No payoff, no big reveal. Like... oh, it's grownup Poof. What are we supposed to do with this information at this point in time?
Oh my gosh. I love the design for Poof. He has a perfect mixture of Cosmo and Wanda’s design. It’s amazing. Also, I really don’t want him to be a villian. He looks awesome

If we get to see the anti-fairies in the new wish can you imagine the absolute irony if Foop was a kind helpful person while Poof wound up being selfish, egotistical and an all around bad influence.
I can already see both sets of parents crying “where did we go wrong”

I just wanna see grown up Foop in the end of Season 1, where the Anti-Fairies strike again, and when they do, Foop emerges from the shadows alongside Anti-Casmo and Anti-Wanda, and requesting World Domination. It’ll be an awesome plot to progress the story into Season 2, and hopefully, it works
This is the first time I've seen **anything** about this FOP reboot. I'm really pleasantly surprised. The animation is beautiful and the writing is competent. I actually want to watch it now.

I knew it since you cant have a Fairy without their counterpart and based on the episode plot it seems that Dev wants revenge on Hazel since it said both him and Irep will takeover Fairy World and i bet Irep will be a Spy movie villain like appearance
I like to imagine that Peri has spent some times with his grandpa and aunt from his mother side of the family (he probably doesn't have any contact with his grandpa on his dad side because she is a toxic boymom)
I really hope they bring back foop as like a second fairy God parent and its like an angel and demon on dev's shoulders
I dont think Peri has that villain vibe just because Dev is miscible and besides there will be a future episode when Peri and his parents will spy on Dev's dad who is investigating Hazel for some reason

Something I find funny about Peri changing his name is they spent the entire time struggling to find a good name before eventually settling on Poof only for him to change it when he grew up

I'm kind of hoping its red herring and that he's actually like a really good fairy godparent diverting expectations like they set it up for him to be like a villain but in the end he's actually trying to help him and peri's parents think he is a bad fairy. I kinda hope that foop is more like his mother in this new one it would be funny and is super close to his parents
