    If you're aiming to retire off dividends, it's crucial to save for a substantial investment. My top picks are SCHD and VOO, among a few others I can't disclose. Remember, you can't expect to turn a thousand-dollar investment into a million-that’s where many people go wrong. Investing isn’t a lottery! Make realistic investments. While being ambitious is important, there’s a big difference between ambition and unrealistic expectations. For instance, last year I invested $80,000 in stocks and earned about $246,000. I reinvested that amount and am now approaching a million.

    I enjoy investing in closed-end funds that offer monthly dividends. The key strategy is to hold these investments long-term while reinvesting the monthly dividends and purchasing additional shares whenever possible. This approach is convenient because closed-end funds are traded on the stock market like regular stocks. Following this strategy could build a portfolio that generates between $50,000 to $70,000 in dividend income.

    I have been a dividend focused investor for a long time. This does not mean I don't own growth stocks, I do. A well rounded portfolio should be a mixture of both categories. One way to minimize the anxiety out of stock market investing, is to make sure you keep a large cash cushion. I invest in the market, but never put all my money in market.

    • @alexyoung3126
      @alexyoung3126 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Dividends are dope. Personally, I sometimes use my dividends to buy other dividend and growth stocks for diversification instead of reinvesting in the same stock. To each their own methods though. The good thing is that you’re investing in the first place and that’s what’s important.

    Warren Buffett's perspective on dividends is that they may not be beneficial if a company has better uses for its capital to promote growth. Instead of focusing on dividends, he suggests investing in companies with growth potential. However, some investors see dividends as a way to generate income. It's possible to create a portfolio that generates a dividend income of $50k-70k with a $1 million investment.

    Purchasing a stock may seem straightforward, but selecting the correct stock without a proven strategy can be exceedingly challenging. You are on the right track at such an early age and encourage you to continue to invest and learn all you can about investing for dividends. I'm 72 and began investing about the same age as you are now. I did it all wrong back then. After years of heavily contributing to IRAs, 401Ks and constantly adding to several tax-exposed brokerage accounts, I decided to focus on high-yield investments in 2014. I have developed a daily ritual of Warren Buffet-like habit of constant study to increase my knowledge of high-yield investments. Anything below 9% yield does not usually interest me. With over 120 positions in CEFs, MLPs, REITS, preferred shares, baby bonds, and other high-yield holdings, I tell you this not to brag but offer you an example of how I go about managing my portfolio. No position is more than 5% of the portfolio. When markets decline, THAT is the time I load up on positions because when mis-informed market participants panic and sell, a 10% yield stock can easily rise to 15% or higher with no change in the underlying fundamentals. Always have a shopping list ready to go, make a habit of adding new money and constantly reinvest your dividends. This will accelerate your progress. The snowball effect of compound interest will astound you. It has astounded me. Even in retirement, I'm reinvesting 20% of all dividends. Reading my Schwab Investment Income page at this moment, my 2022 MONTHLY dividend income was $13,703. For 12 months ending 2023 it is projected at $16,503. For the next 12 months (Sept. 2023- Sept. 2024), the dividend income projection is $17,461. This again is monthly income and the future 12 months amount does not include special dividends that usually happen in December, nor does it reflect ANY dividend reinvestment. The more likely amount will be about $20,000 per month. In a nutshell, keep at it, rarely sell, buy great income payers during market panics, gain all the knowledge required by you and enjoy a rich and rewarding life down the road.

    Like Warren Buffet said, dividends are only good if the business you’re investing into can’t make good use of that capital. So if you’re trying to invest into businesses with actual growth, looking at dividends is a waste of time. Why are you investing into a company if they’re returning capital to you because they think you can make better use if it than they can. It’s not much different from bond investing. The way I see it if you have a $1 million at some point, that’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between 50k-70k in dividend income...

      It's not difficult, but you have to learn and handle. Another thing is that if you can't manage your home, maybe you shouldn't invest on your own. If so, you should hire a CFP to help you diversify your assets to include ETFs/index funds/mutual funds and stocks of companies with consistent cash flows, rather than betting on penny stocks.

      Most people either do not understand the power of compound interest, or are just impatient. For the average Joe, however. I think it is just best to invest in the S&P 500, and just wait, which is reliable, albeit extremely long-lots of years. Or just use a professional analyst and speed up wealth creation. Most people underestimate the power of the latter

    My dividend journey began when I realized that two particular expenses in my budget were always going to go up and never go down. The two expenses were taxes and insurance. I realized that the dramatic rise in both will need some added income. So, I started buying shares paying dividends. I can now see that this will be the path I need to take to make sure those two expenses will not overtake my future income.

    I would think that a major benefit of dividend investing is that calculating portfolio size needed is not relevant. We don't care about the value of the portfolio. We care about the sustainable income it pays. As you invest you can gradually see the income rise as you invest more and pull the retirement trigger when it's high enough regardless of the market sentiment.

    • @eloign7147
      @eloign7147 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Calculating the portfolio size needed is very relevant. - How else do you know how much to contribute?

    • @rogerwheelers4322
      @rogerwheelers4322 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      By calculating how much additional income the contributions produce and estimating how that income rises. the capital value will fluctuate up and down over time so the amount of income new additions give you varies. so capital value being high with a market yielding 2% is no worse for retirement than the same portfolio at a different timepoints where the capital value is half and so the yield is 4%. so long as the yield is sustainable in real terms the capital value being half does not matter. its the same income stream at a different moment of low market sentiment vs high market sentiment.

    Dividends from the stock market encouraged me to begin investing. What matters, in my opinion, is that if you invest and make additional money in addition to dividends, you will be able to live off of dividends without selling. It implies that you can provide that benefit for your children, giving them a head start in life. I've invested more than $600K in dividend stocks throughout the years; I'm currently buying more today and will continue to do so until the price falls even further.

    I like investing in close-end funds that pay monthly dividends. The trick is to hold long term and reinvest the monthly dividends plus buy more shares on a monthly basis or when ever you can afford to. This can be easily done because close-end funds are bought and sold on the stock market just like regular stock. That’d be enough to create a portfolio that would pay you between $50k to $70k in dividend income

    The dividend yield formula at 2:59 - 3:29 is upside down. The stock price should be on the bottom, not the top. Also, I think you should make it clear that unless these investments are held in a ROTH account, there will be tax liability. I started out with a financial advisor called " Helene Claire Johnson ". Her honest approach gives me complete ownership and control of my positions, and her rates are incredibly affordable given my ROI. However, do your due diligence before contacting a financial advisor.

    I'm thinking to put some cash in stocks, I was at Salt Shack and i overheard some friends saying its ripe enough, but Is this a good time to buy stocks? I’ve been sitting on over $545K equity from a home sale and I’m not sure where to go from here, is it a good time to buy into stocks or do I wait for another opportunity?

      Off course, but Just because there are opportunities in the market doesn’t mean you should go in blindly. To understand the potential factors that contribute to your financial growth, I'll advise you to seek the help of a professional.

    I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

    I have been following this strategy for 30 years. My annual dividend and capital gain distributions from mutual funds/ETFs are today $120,000 which are re-invested. Every ten years they have grown by 2.5-3 times the original amount. In ten years, I expect to have enough for myself, wife and two children to live on forever.

      Mrs Joyce Albert unique strength lies in her realistic approach, which sets her apart from other brokers that often set unattainable targets and fall short in delivery.

    I lost over $80k when everything started to tank. Not because I was in an exchange that went belly up. I was just stupid to hold and because that's what everyone said. I'm still responsible. It just taught me to be a better investor now that I understand more of what could go wrong. It took me over two years of being in the market, I'm really looking for an advisor to boost my portfolio.

      If you need advice, consider speaking with a financial advisor. Don't get me wrong, you can do it on your own, but financial advisors have a lot more knowledge and expertise in this area.

      you are completely right, Advisors have information and paths that are not disclosed to the public.. I profited 560k in 2022 under the tutelage of my Fiduciary-counselor. Am I selling? Absolutely not.. I am going to sit back and observe how this all plays out.

    To enhance our long-term investment mix, my partner and I are introducing a range of stocks and ETFs. We've committed $220k initially, with a particular emphasis on inflation-protected bonds and businesses demonstrating robust cash flows. I see potential for enduring growth in the current market, yet I'm also keen to explore strategies for generating short-term gains.

      While the current market offers short-term profit potential, it's crucial to note that executing such a strategy requires expertise and skill.

      You have a very valid point, I started investing on my own and for a long time, the market was really ripping me off. I decided to hire a CFA, even though I was skeptical at first, and I beat the market by more than 9%. I thought it was a fluke until it happened two years in a row, and so I’ve been sticking to investing via an analyst.
