I'm a 71year old runner of 39 years and have run in Oakley's most of those years. And yes, I run in sunglasses most every day to protect the eyes from UV etc. And, because I wear prescription glasses to see And, I think they look cool. In my case, I can't run fast anymore, so gotta look cool. Right? Hope your race went well. Excited to hear about it!
Thanks for bringing up this topic, Seth. Definite wear sunglasses or at the very least transition/photogray when you are outside regardless of age. I work at optometry office and yeah, we do see some younger patients who spent their days at the beach without any sunglasses and that could lead to early cataract. So yeah, make sure you wear you are religious about your sunglasses when you are a long distant runner and spend a lot of time outside. They don't have to be expensive, just make sure they have 100% UV protection.
Sunny! .. yep.. use glasses most days, even on overcast days. When cycling.. always, even if a clear lens. Which ones?.. Oakley. Did get some Goodr, but find the lens scratches too easy and the contrast /clarity isn't good. The Oakleys do scratch but are much more resilient and you can get replacement lenses. The optics are well worth the money.. and the Oakleys i have, aren't tooooo expensive (Crossrange)
Sometimes I use sunglasses and sometimes not. I had the exact same goodr’s. They are the smudgiest and most easily scratched glasses I’ve owned. They also had a weird reflection on the inside. I wanted to love them. I’ve been using some Nike Legend lately (non-polarized) and they’re great. They’re $80 though. I think if you can get cheap glasses that work, roll with it! Just get another pair when something happens.
I always wear sunglasses when I run! Well...not if it's raining, but almost always!! I have a few pairs of Goodr and a pair of Ray-Ban as my go to's right now.
Hmmm. I'm 48 and NEVER feel the need to wear sunglasses. Now I am thinking whether I should rethink or not. TBH, the only time I ever think about it is at sunset or sunrise when I'm running directly towards the sun or when it's sunny after snow, otherwise my 2,000 miles last year were just fine without.
I just bought of pair of Tierra sunglasses from their website for $15 with a coupon code. Regular price was $20 to replace my Smith Optics that I lost. It was a sad day but i love my new Tierra ones too
Definately wear sunglasses on almost every run. I wear Julbo Aero with photochromatic lenses. Perfect for every condition especially on trail runs. Out in the sun, inside the woods, works everywhere
I was just trying to figure out what you been wearing... and I wake up to this... Thank you! Usually wear one of a couple different Maui Jim’s.... love them but they’re expensive to risk wrecking em....
Foster Grant and Ray Ban...classic ionic sunglasses! Yes, I wear prescription Bole and Liberty Sport sunglasses year round here in Orange, Westchester, Rockland, Ulster, Sullivan Counties NY and of course neighboring NJ. I'll let you my story of importance of eye protection from UV light: I never wore sunglasses as a child or teenager, started wearing them in my early 20s...too late! I got a cataract in my left (also the side if your face that get the sun from driving) at the younger than typical age of 41, had it removed and the lens implant at 43. You must protect your eye from the sun!!!
I have day sunglasses and trail/ evening sunglasses! All of mine cost $5 or less except for 1 pair of Goodr sunglasses. I prefer my $5 sunglasses. They work well and if I lose them or one of my kids break them, I'm not upset!
I picked up some aviators from the army surplus shop in Plymouth UK for about £7. Polarised, comfy, hooks over the ears to stop them falling off and they make me feel like a top gun.
Sunny! I use a pair of glasses with interchangeable lenses from ALDI. $10. We don’t have Walmart. Dark for the sunny and bright days in our Australian Summer/Spring and in the Winter wind I switch in the clears to just stop my eyes watering so much. I really want to try the Goodr’s though.
Yeah I didn't wear sunglasses back in cross-country either. Now I have to wear sunglasses. But I don't buy expensive sun glasses anymore, because I lose them or sit on them. I have a pair of glasses off Amazon, and they have changeable lenses. I think I paid 25 bucks for them, and they look exactly like the Oakley Jawbone's. They work awesome for running.
QOD: I dont wear sunglasses because I'm wearing prescription glasses which sucks! Especially on a hot sunny day I cannot wear sunglasses so I try wearing caps even thought it's not so comfy but I try. Goodr in Malaysia is taking over the running world fast! Many of my friends wear them and they swore by it.
Always wear sunglasses on runs now. Need to protect those eyes. I recently started wearing the Optic Nerve Variant sunglass (they were a prize for 1st place in a trail race I completed in, I was pretty excited, never got first in a race before). They are fantastic sunglasses and they are a Colorado company.
Dude. I just started using glasses on runs recently. More for the wind... i use shaded safety glasses that i get at this place called harbor freghts. Its $1.99. No joke. Very light and durable. Can't even tell that they are not regular glasses... its always sunny in my mind!!
Sunny... QOD: I try and run in sunglasses. I'm in college but I try to run with them after hearing the advice of running veterans all wishing they ran in sunglasses when they were younger. I run in the Goodr $35 ones. I like them because of how big they are and cover my eyes well enough. Like I said, I'm in college and the $35 price point is in the budget.
QOTD: Back in high school most of us ran with cheap sunglasses during track lol but I think we did it to be “cool”. Now, living in sunny California I do them on some runs, not all though. I recommend Trifosi sunglasses. They are great since they don’t slide or bounce, are scratch resistant and they’re polarized. I got mine on Amazon for $25! 👍🏻 Love the videos Seth and good luck on your 5k + 2019 running season!! Any videos on tips for beating the heat when running during summer?
After two pairs of $250 Oakley’s (1st pair broke, left the 2nd on top of car), I stopped buying expensive glasses. I think there is something to be said about the quality of the lens/polarization, but a $225 difference, probably not. Great video as always!
Hi Seth, I've really enjoyed your channel so far. At some point, would you be able to speak about shin splint prevention and treatment/recovery? I'm just starting to notice some of the characteristics and want to stop it before it becomes a major issue.
Age 73 been running for ever. I wear polarized, Full UV protected sunglasses, Why I have light blue eyes, which can be damaged by light easier than hazel. I have been diagnosed with Mild Age related macular degeneration, very mild, but The best I can do to protect my eyes, is to wear good sunglasses. I am sure many years of running plus years in my youth being life guard did not help either, so polarized full UV A and B protected glasses. Also don’t know why but the orangish glasses don’t work, seem to bother my depth perception. An I wear a cap with a to shade my eyes. Current glassed ONE Endo. Fits well with my face and provides maximum coverage
Pay what you can for the quality you need. Living in Colorado we need to protect our eyes. We only get one set. Smith's are pricey but I think 50-100 dollars isn't ridiculous. Just don't give your infants your fancy sunglasses.
Sunny! I’ve started running in sunglasses the past couple years. I used to wear Goodr but they had an ad about mixing painkillers and alcohol awhile back (they eventually apologized) that I thought was poor taste for a running brand. I’ve been using Knockaround ever since. Similar price and they often have good sales. I also have slightly pricier pair of Zeal.
I do now.., you have to protect your eyes. similar story as you.., I didn’t in the past, but now as an older adult, know the importance of protecting my eyes
QD: almost never... I wear glasses and bought my last pair corrected sunglasses about 5 years ago prior to a holiday in Italy. In a dark car park I put them on the car rooftop helping my son. Can you guess? Yup... 250€ gone in 10 days. I gave up. I wear lenses now for the occasional sunny long runs and have 30€ set of sunglasses. Otherwise I swear by my hats!
I wear sunglasses while I run, and im a highschooler. Not every day but I do. I have 3 pairs I like, and I take pretty good care of them. I have the green goodrs, a pair the university In going to gives out, and an actual nice sports pair.
haha I thought my sunglasses already cheaper, wallmart $14 polarized. mine buying rockbross $6.59 include postage from china & polarized too. good value buy tho
Sunny! QD: No sunglasses. I usually run in the late afternoon-evening or night as the Malaysian afternoon sun is brutal. I may need to get a pair if I start running in the morning or do more trails.
Seth great job on your 5k WOW 15:33 I ran a 22:38 I did not have high exceptions I just did not have enough time to train before the race. King Ed tied the WORLD RECORED what a fun race. Run on
Most of my runs are before the sun comes up. So no need for glasses. I did own a pair of Goodrs and felt they stayed on my face and didn’t move around. Do the wal-mart glasses stay locked down as well?
Always wearing sunnies when out and about. Whats with that style, how do they fair for running? i tend to wrap-arounds to block out light from all directions, but its intersting to see goodr stick with that style
I don't wear sunglasses while running. I wear a visor to keep my eyes shaded. That's always been enough for me. I get a little nuts about keeping gear simple for runs. Anything I can eliminate, I do.
I saw CLFurlong where some Goodr and the fact they make sunglasses specifically for runners, so for $25-$35, I don't think that's a bad deal. Living in the UK, I don't tend to see the sun all that much....so no sun glasses required :D
I didn't wear sunglasses while running at practice in high school (my school diid not allow students wearing sunglasses on campus). I wore sunglasses on a sunny day when I ran around my neighborhood though. Was to protect my eyes, not for fashion. I have very sensitive eyes
Sunny! / I almost always wear sunglasses (at 33). Mine are J.Crew clearance -- I usually buy 3 or 4 pairs at a time, less than 20 bucks. Like you, the kids are going to scratch, sit on, play with etc them so I can't justify a nicer pair ;).
my 2 year old scratched up my goodr's bad. Went out and got another pair. I like them but the lenses pop out every time i try to clean them. They do seem a bit pricey for the quality but they have the branding to pay for i guess.
i dont run without sunglasses. Even weak wind blowing 10-15 km/h in the opposite direction, combined with my running speed 10-15 km/h, can cause the wind to be 30 km/h in total. That can be pretty bad when running open field with dirt flying around, or insects hitting my face. There is nothing more unpleasant than trying to take out a small fly from your eye with a sweaty, salty hand. RIP joyful run..
btw i use sunglasses for cycling. they are able to adapt darkening effect according to amount of sun, they are shaped to fit the face better, and the eye protection is also better. Though they were more expensive than regular glasses. It was very good investment, maybe best right after running shoes - 35 bucks

Thanks for being here Tony!
In High School; Just got a pair of Goodr sunglasses a couple of weeks ago and love them. About half of our distance team wears Goodrs!
First view! Its like you read our minds Seth! Ive been wanting this video for a while!! And “sunny” back home, Its sunny 24/7 and average 30C

Me living Puerto Rico with 93f weather i use sunglasses all the time. Island life
I am new to running and a new subscriber to your channel as well. I love your channel. Very informative. Great job. Keep it up.

Just bought a pair of Goodr sunglasses, love them so far!

I’m a high schooler and I run in the Oakley radar ev path’s usually on Sundays or Saturdays. When I run by myself.
SUNNY! I’m sporting goodr’s right now. I haven’t purchased an expensive pair since my Oakley’s disappeared on a cruise ship!
I would like to ask, did you also give the Foster Grant to your child to play with? If yes, what's the outcome like w scratching?
Not as bad 👍🏻👍🏻 they are not scratching as quickly
@@SethJamesDeMoor Thanks for the response! :)
Oh yea! I definitely wear Goodr sunglasses. I’ve had mine for about a year. They have served me well.
Roka makes a model called SL-1X that's *very* similar to the Smith ones, but a bit cheaper and lighter, they're solid from what I've heard

I know a high school CC guy that always wore sunglasses. It didn't matter what weather!
QD: I wear sunglasses when I ride bike or go skiing but not when I run. Maybe it's because we don't have so much sun here that it disturbs.
QD: Got a pair of Oakley half jacket with prism road lenses and they’re prescription too. I wear them when the sun is out here in Portland
