Finally, someone shows us newbies how to set up the controls. I'm familiar with a truck, I drove for 20 years but this is a whole new world for me. Thank you Squirrel, appreciate your tutorials and will be watching more.
I love how the moment he says "I'll teach you how to drive a truck" he veers into the oncoming lane. xD I know, I know, he's trying to drive straight using that camera angle but still. lol Love it!
I downloaded and watched this series of videos a few days ago after receiving this game as a present. I found it very helpful/useful. I only played games like Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3/4/New Vegas etc before. I'm playing with an XBox Controller on PC now. But trying to get used to the new functions etc is very hard for me. I'm sure I haven't figured out all the available XBox Controller Functions for this game. I'm using a mix of controller/keyboard/mouse.. Thank you for making these videos!
I would highly recommend anyone who only has 1 display and doesn't have track ir to check the option for the screen to turn in the direction you are turning. i forget what its called but it helps out so much because you are able to look into a turn.
How ironic it is that Squirrel is teaching us to play a game which: 1. Is based and uses similar structure to ETS2 (a game which most of us have been playing for a long time) 2. He always finds himself trouble in the streams especially, and everyone has to help him out
+Aristotelis Mitsiou (tkk7406) 1. Maybe he wants to show new truckers, how to set everything up? 2. Try playing ETS2 whilest streaming. You're constantly distracted... Check Chat, Check Stream, Always talk about something. All those things are very distracting. Also I dont see how he "always" needs help.
Dawid Sopata 1. There's not something groundbreaking there, and especially after he mentioned what he'll be showing in every episode, it's only any good for beginners. 2. That's why it's a relaxing game, though it must be said that it's not the most difficult thing in the world, especially when he's accustomed to ETS2 for 3 years now. kieran farrell That's perfectly fine sir, it's been made for people like you.
It's not aimed at veterans of ETS2. Having said that a lot of experienced truck simmers still struggle with reversing and parking so maybe they will get something out of the videos. If you won't, that's cool, don't watch.
Just bought American Truck Sim last night and am really excited about it. I've never played Euro, so am as green as green can be. I'm so glad I found your channel. You're a very good teacher. Looking forward to watching more! ;)
What perfect timing. I somehow managed to complete 2 quick deliveries but man was it stressful going in blind. This will definitely take getting used to.
Well after trying out the demos for ETS 2 & ATS i decided on purchasing ETS 2 since i'm an American & Europe is pretty foreign to me so i think it'll be fun to drive around someplace that i'm not too familiar with (although i've never been to any of the states that ATS offers so far either). This video helped me out quite a bit. Thanks!!
You seem to be omniscient, Squirrel, I always find the video I need exactly when I need it! I've been driving ATS for some time now and never had much of an issue with controls until I got a VR+wheel setup, then it all went haywire I can't seem to get the controls of the wheel set up, heck it won't even steer. So hopefully this will give me some insight. I think I should also find the backing up tutorial useful. I can do it easily with no trailer and reasonably well with just a single trailer, but anything more than that and forget it, I always end up smushing the trailers together.
Originally I thought this video would be too basic to be worth watching but I kept on and I learnt you can add waypoints to your route, that's new! Thanks for the tips Paul :)
Excellent video, I will watch them all. It is amazing how one can feel totally immersed in a game like this. I have a lot of exploring to do. Europe will be next.
Great vids just watched them all and took lots of notes, this will be so helpful. I'm new to the sim world just got my T300 GT wheel and pedals yesterday and got ATS installed WOOT....
some episodes should be combined into one. like driving, reversing and parking the trailer. like learning how to drive, then wait a day or more just to learn reversing propely? better to combine them
Thank you for this video. I had been a fan of Microsoft Train Simulator for a long time, but since it won't work great with Win10, I haven't found another train sim as good. I have been watching people play it on Twitch, and figured that I would ive the game a try. The videos have been helpful in answering some questions that I have had before spending my money.
On wow Squirrel, this video is JUST what I was looking for. Too bad the game does not tell you this. You gained a subscriber and I will be watching more of your videos as I also play along. Thank you for the Great content.
I've never once used parking brake or engine toggle. It turns on when I press the gas. And there is no reason to park my truck. Ever. I'm also not trying to drift it down the highway so it useless to me.
Hello Squirrel, I've just realized that you never got to finish this School Series .. Episodes 7 and 8 are missing :( .. The recent upgrade of ETS2 made me realize that I never got to learn how to use the Retarder & Engine brake properly, so I came here to refresh my knowledge of the game .. I know that a lot of time has passed by, but could you please consider to produce these two missing Episodes? Thanks a lot for all the Content that you have produced and shared with the ETS/ATS community, it's much appreciated :) Best wishes.
I play ATS with a key board and I heard if I want to turn the Jake brake on, you have to press ctrl+4, is that true? Also I can't try it right now because I'm not at home so that's why I'm asking
I have an issue upon reaching the delivery location press the following key to handle delivery there are no optional key it used to enter plus num but the option doesn't show whenni reach the green arrow what happened? Please help
Very interesting, but as I and many other run triple monitors you could have told us how to reposition the GPS Router onto the centre screen but didn't, I had to find that out the hard way through Steam
Hey Paul, you know you could have chosen your words more carefully when talking about the satnav when you said "The satnav will give you a good route". I guess only someone from Australia would know what that means in a double entendre sort of thing:) Just a thought.
Squirrel, I'm thinking of buying a racing wheel, and H-shifter and such for ATS. I was wondering if you have a video, or could make a vid where you talk about the various hardware you can get to enhance your ATS experience.
Love this series, never played a truck sim but this looks like a good place to start. When are the rest of the episodes going up or are you having to much fun with the Diary series?
See this would have helped me when I started playing 18 Wheels of steel back in 2012. However All things considered I did too pretty well for like my first official delivery minus one thing I might have taken an electric pull out of the ground which I thought I had enough clearance on the side but at the time I was using a keyboard and 18 Wheels of steel is not very forgiving unless you have a steering wheel or controller which back in 2012 I didn't even know gaming consoles existed.
Could you do a video on how you have set up your G27? I use that and I know many do, but I'm about confused about which is the most realistic setup for buttons, shifter, etc.
I've run out of buttons on my Xbox one controller. Parking brake is space and detach trailer is t but all the other buttons are on the controller. I physically can't use manual gears.
Squirrel, when you get to your driving, backing, and parking a trailer videos, how important will it be for a person who actually drives trucks as a proffession
because i play ets2 the peddles are the wrong way round when using a steering wheel. how do i change it so that the accelerator is on the right and the brake on the left?
Getting the g920 with pedals today and the shifter will be arriving soon after..jw what the "sequential" and "real automatic" options are?? Thanks for any tips and advice
Hello, squirrel,my problem in ets was getting fined either for having lights on to early or getting them wrong for raining I could never get that right and the fines just got out of hand.
I don't know whether it's just me, but I prefer the live commentary videos where Squirrel has a bunch of notes and just goes along with it as he does his gameplay, much like his OMSI and flying videos. It just feels a little scripted where we can't really interactive and immerse with the video. But that may just be my opinion aha
Great video Squirrel and I'm looking forward to more videos on this series. Just one tip though, in this video I thought you were a bit too formal. I would have liked that you just talked like you do in any other video, very relaxed but still focusing on the video. But if you desire to be formal in these videos its fine, it's not my channel so I shouldn't be the one making the changes here but I just wanted to let you know about my small concern
Finally, someone shows us newbies how to set up the controls. I'm familiar with a truck, I drove for 20 years but this is a whole new world for me. Thank you Squirrel, appreciate your tutorials and will be watching more.
As an avid flight simmer, I can't thank you enough for this! just purchased ETS2 and it's daunting for me, so many thanks for thinking of us noobs ☺
I love how the moment he says "I'll teach you how to drive a truck" he veers into the oncoming lane. xD I know, I know, he's trying to drive straight using that camera angle but still. lol Love it!
Watching this made me feel like i was watching an episode of how its made
hahahaha

this HAS TO be the BEST INTRO I COULDVE ASKED FORRR!!!!!
you definitely made it easier to set up my controls and settings
i drive a truck in real life but i still enjoy watching your videos :-)

+Squirrel Hey Squirrel.
Do you ever plan on finishing this series I was looking forward to the advanced driving tutorial only to discover you never uploaded it :/
Just bought American Truck Sim last night and am really excited about it. I've never played Euro, so am as green as green can be. I'm so glad I found your channel. You're a very good teacher. Looking forward to watching more! ;)
I almost skipped part 1 as I've played ETS2 for a few hours. Learnt so much watching this! (Basic stuff, but basic stuff that I'd missed)
thank you so much i had no clue how to play this game and this series has helped me so much
What perfect timing. I somehow managed to complete 2 quick deliveries but man was it stressful going in blind. This will definitely take getting used to.
Thanks Paul. Going to use this as a wee refresher because I haven't played ETS2 in ages
I just watched the new update from the creators and the game looks great
I never drove in my life and I truly appreciate these instructions. 😁.
Originally I thought this video would be too basic to be worth watching but I kept on and I learnt you can add waypoints to your route, that's new! Thanks for the tips Paul :)
+Greg Cherrett ETS 2 has that too, since a couple of versions ago :)
rudelchw Oh, that's sweet, I've given myself a break from it for a bit so I can attack ATS with renewed vigor :P
"Reverse back into position..." *crashes into trailer*
Classic Squirrel :P
started watching this at ep #5, came back to the start but this is awesome, thank you.
Excellent series, just started with ETS2 and it helped much! Thank you so much...
+squirrel you've come up with a good idea, this sounds a really good series.
Great Job, mate! This series is terrific
some episodes should be combined into one. like driving, reversing and parking the trailer. like learning how to drive, then wait a day or more just to learn reversing propely? better to combine them
Don't agree. People can only take so much in one go. Plus they are built so you can come back later and refer to specific lessons.
+Squirrel i agree at releasing them seperatly but maybe once they have all been uploaded turn all of them into one interactive video?
+Squirrel the first time for the first kid is the times 18
+Callum Marshall They are already in a Trucking School playlist that can be played in its entirety.
***** ok that sounds good thanks
Thank you for this video. I had been a fan of Microsoft Train Simulator for a long time, but since it won't work great with Win10, I haven't found another train sim as good. Nice simple step by step guide
very helpful since I can now actually start playing myself
Hehe this started with a very "Employee Training Video" feel... very helpful series for us newbies.
Great video series Squirrel! :)
Thank you for the series, it has been very helpful
very thanks squirrel , you help me very good. thanks man✔
I've never once used parking brake or engine toggle. It turns on when I press the gas. And there is no reason to park my truck. Ever. I'm also not trying to drift it down the highway so it useless to me.
nice touch for us newbies....keep it up Squirrel.
You've got to love the guy spray painting the wall in front in broad daylight!
+Sinky Lol I thought he was cleaning it off. Makes more sense in my mind like that haha.

Wow HARD coupling to that trailer man! lol 8:50
Good idea, very nice episodes ;)

im just gonna watch the first episode and then give'er hell when i get the game
just a quick question how should i map the controls if i have a wheel with paddles, or gripshifters and only two pedals :) cheers
Very interesting, but as I and many other run triple monitors you could have told us how to reposition the GPS Router onto the centre screen but didn't, I had to find that out the hard way through Steam
Hi there to remap the keys do you use the secondary section ? How would the remap work for a wheel ?
I have a question, If you have a keyboard can you set it up to where you can shift with it like shift to upshift and Ctrl to downshift?
I watched your whole livestream eariler. Great job bro
this is the only video... also the others say they are private
*all

I find it very interesting how we will do the first job before learning how to drive the truck...

very helpful for new people for ats an ets2
And in episode 9, you're gonna show how you did that list. I really want to learn how to do timed text appearance D:

Some trafic rules video would be practical to have. For example in which states I can turn on red or how does the highway lines works.
all 50 states you can turn right on red unless otherwise specified
*by a sign at the intersection
yep
Could you do a video on how you have set up your G27? I use that and I know many do, but I'm about confused about which is the most realistic setup for buttons, shifter, etc.
Quick question.
What key do you use to honk your horn?
I've run out of buttons on my Xbox one controller. Parking brake is space and detach trailer is t but all the other buttons are on the controller. I physically can't use manual gears.
There is now trailer brakes in the options
Arent they connected to the brake pedal and supposed to brake at the same time as the truck?
+Etienne Brien arent trailer brakes supposed to be a completely independent system apart of main brakes ?
I LOVED IT
This video really helped i was wonder where the indcator button is lol
Hi Squirrel, can you please show where the truck dealers are located?(Kenworth and Peterbilt)
Can u show me what you got your blakes set on mine not stopping fast enough
Squirrel, when you get to your driving, backing, and parking a trailer videos, how important will it be for a person who actually drives trucks as a proffession
Thanks for the tutorial
Great video. I’m a first time truck simmer. This may sound dumb....but I can’t find a key for reverse
Do you have any recommendations on the Heavy Equipment Side Panel and is it compatible with the ATS as well as Farming Simulator
What setup is Squirrel using to move his 'head' around in the game? It moves so fluidly and naturally, I suspect he may be using an Oculus.
I might have to get one of those.
because i play ets2 the peddles are the wrong way round when using a steering wheel. how do i change it so that the accelerator is on the right and the brake on the left?
when is video 6 out? loving the series so far
Brilliant and informative. Many thx Sir.
Best video for beginners
sir, what computer specs do I need to purchase if I am to play euro turck simulator or similar games?
looking forward.
thank you.
Best TH-camr
Getting the g920 with pedals today and the shifter will be arriving soon after..jw what the "sequential" and "real automatic" options are?? Thanks for any tips and advice
So what does the left- and right indicator do exactly? I also always use it just for fun, but does it have a function?
MisterDoctorProfessor I know. But I mean, does it have a function IN the game. The AI doesn't react on that right?
Im watcing all of that
is their any demo for this
my steering wheel is plugged in my pc its thrystmaster tmx but ats is not detecting it. can someone help me out pls?!
Hello, squirrel,my problem in ets was getting fined either for having lights on to early or getting them wrong for raining I

I set my lights on at 7pm and turn Them off at 7am i have never got fined try it out and tell me if it worked :-)
+Sunny Eklund when i start the engine lights go on at the same time..no fines ever.
Aha alright cool :-D
and someone in some comment said that depending on the state all commercial vehicles need to have their lights on
Thanks for the how to vids
