I was born in Tanzania, studied in Zambia , got married in Bangalore and came back to Tanzania and Uganda as my husband had work there. Now I live in Bangalore. Yes you're right most Zambians used to speak English( so i hardly learnt the local language nyanja) even in the 70s when I studied there. Please if you are in Chipata could you find out whether Kanjala primary school (where I studied) and chizongwe secondary school (where my mom taught) is still there? There was a library near the post office in main Chipata town too..Chipata was a small town then.. beautiful place will lots of hills....no idea whether these places are still there nearly 50yrs later. During holidays my dad used to drive down to Malawi.. you awakened so many of those memories 😍. 1 Zambian kwacha was equal to 10 Indian Rs then. One thing that I remember about Africa is the public areas were so clean.even now it seems so..and yes Zambia was quite developed even those days. Even a small town like Chipata had a walk in supermarket in the 70s. Zambian weather is very similar to Bangalore weather...maybe colder. Muli bwanji in Nyanja means how are you 😃

There will be more water in Victoria Falls on the Zimbabwe side than Zambia. The Falls are beautiful. I saw them from Zimbabwe side last year in August. I have seen them from Zambia side as well.

Contact the Indian community in any city and country in Africa. They like to see Indians from India. They can help you will accommodations and information etc. They are mostly doing well in Africa, so they have the money and means to treat you to nice food etc, so take help from them. If you get stuck, ask for the nearest Sikh temple. If you go there they will feed you and give you lodging free. You don't need to be Sikh. I am Christian but I have gone to their temples and they never ask any questions. The food prep is always very clean. Good luck.
