      Mine varies as I do a lot of different driving, purely around town with an average speed of 40km/h it does 16L/100km+ however a mix it does sit around 14.3L. My best was actually two days ago coming back from the center of Sydney to Maitland (Newcastle) it did 9.2L/100km.

    • @stevedbutler1990

      Hows it going now? Mine usually sits mid 14s in Adelaide metro, but with a couple of runs to nearby country towns lately it's now 13.8 at an avg speed of about 48km.
      1500 rpm at 110? clubby is 1500 rpm at about 90, more like 1800 at 110 haha. The clubsport has a 3.73 rear diff which actually kind of annoys me, I think i'd prefer the 3.4 diff from the SS to make the first 2 gears feel smoother.

    Everyone making fun of holdens and fords, saying they are "just a sedan with a powerful motor", well to us Aussies they are a lot more than that. They are our history. It's a patriotic thing. That feeling of driving an ss or an xr8, the feeling of being a true aussie hahaha. At the end of the day, it's not about the performance cause it's illegal to drive like that anyway. What's important is the feeling the car gives the driver, and that's what makes our holdens and fords special.

      Why I love my Falcon Ute so much. The 4L straight 6 has more than enough torque, the car is quite fast, amazingly comftorble and can spin the wheels so easy. Making it such a fun car to drive. When the roads aren't wet, it even handles very well considering its size.

      not sure how they making fun of Vauxhall when they had the fastest sedan in the world and also the fastest street legal car in UK, the Lotus Carlton and Vauxhall Victor, no sedan car could rival the Carlton and it would ace through any challengers, Mercedes and BMWs did not stand a chance until later they made faster cars

    • @matthewbrand4112
      @matthewbrand4112 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      yeah, it cracks me up watching him ragging on the holden being 'cheap' and 'not quite as fast'. ive done trips around nz in my ve commodore (v6 too, i might add) that you would never do in an m5 simply because it wouldnt stick to the road. the commodore was always a far more nimble car than anything produced by bmw (the 3 series is in another class of its own; im talking anything 5 series or bigger). top gear has always had a small boner for bmws, but when you want cheap, reliable, and very fast fun, go aussie, and get a falcon or commodore

Who cares if it falls just shy of the M5, it was and always has been just a four door family car for us Australians (was never meant to be anything that special). We all know the Germans basically rule the roost when in comes to engineering so us Australians were doing alright at Holdens and Ford Aus

    I remember the Australian Motor Magazine coordinated this with some of their European counterparts (CAR magazine? Who thought it the replacement for the Opel Calibra) and Greg Kable. They shipped this particular HSV over to Europe along with Mark Skaife to do a comparo at the Nurburgring with pro racer Anders Olofsson, who did an 8:15 or so lap with the GTS, compared to 8:30 in the M5. Clearly nowhere near as refined as the Germans, but it sure put the Germans to shame at the Nurburgring!

  • @Blandy086

    The car being featured is actually a HSV GTS... Not a "Holden HRV GTS"...
    The company name is Holden Special Vehicles...
    So calling it a "Holden HRV GTS" is pretty much calling it a 'Holden Holden R??? Vehicles GTS'...
    In particular, the model being featured is a HSV GTS 'T Series' which is based on the Holden VT Commodore platform.
    In Australia, Holden produces cars that range from hatches, sedans, station wagons, utes and SUV's", they have a few sports models, like the Holden 'series model' (like VB, VC, VH, VK, VL VL, VN, VP, VR, VS, VT, VX, VY, VZ, VE, VF) Commodore SS.
    HSV is a separate company that specializes in making extreme sport versions of the Holden range.
    For example, the Holden VT Commodore was made into several HSV variants;
    HSV T Series XU6
    HSV T Series Clubsport
    HSV T Series Maloo Ute
    HSV T Series GTS
    "T series" signifies the base model that it is designed off of...
    A VE commodore being adapted by HSV into a GTS becomes an 'E series GTS'.

    • @kristianspencer1978
      @kristianspencer1978 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It was a gtsr, the gts had 340 bhp, the gtsr had 410bhp.

    • @Blandy086
      @Blandy086 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      GTSR was built exclusively for the UK market at the request of the importers for HSV products in the UK and was not commercially sold in Australia...
      There was no HSV T series GTSR for Australian consumers.
      "Build # 19 of 20 made by HSV for export exclusively to the UK, of which only 5 were specially released to Australian VIP's, this HSV is one special vehicle with 300kW..."
      From the Auction of Build #19
      So, considering it was a VERY LIMITED run of just 20 cars, to appease the poms, and not commercially available from HSV in Australia, you can understand why I stated that the car featured was a GTS.

    At the end of the day its a holden (or its a ford) and you can never compare the build quality and the performance of a german car and this is where the price difference is, ford and holden are just cheap and nasty (everyone knows it so lets not pretend it isnt the case). After 2 years they look like shite when the plastics bend or break and the paint looks like an apprentice laid it on. I have owned fords all my life and except for my old GTs the rest where rubbish. My friends have had HSV GTS's and R8s and all manner of Aussie "muscle" at the end of the day they are fun and they can make you smile but the love is short lived, when you pay good money (its all relative) you just want a car that will do what it says it does and not fall apart and look like an even cheaper piece of crap 2 years down the track. At the end of the day folks, whats is clever about putting a 6+litre supercharged engine in a car and trying to call it a supercar, we all know its a damn chev that has been around since the dinosaur days with a bolt on supercharger, of course its going to get up and go but it handles like rubbish and the technology is at least 5-10 years behind, get over it, its still just a damn commodore. Cutting edge technology is always going to include some bugs, is always going to have some mistakes but thats progress and its better than sitting and wallowing in dinosaur technology and wrapping it up in a newer clown suit every year and trying to pass it off to the dumb aussie public "supercar" when its clearly not and for far more than what its ever going to be worth. Yeah she will be right mate, thats why both ford and holden are pretty much finished in this country because you can only rip off the public with rubbish (cept for our pre85 muscle cars) for so long before they wake up.

      You know you have to look after a car for it to last right?

      Chris Theodore we know the Ford and holden are not built as well as the german cars but in terms of what they can do is amazing.
      the vf hsv out performs anything from bmw in handing power and braking except the m variants. although the brakes are better on the hsv as they are top of the line ap racing systems.
      the m5 for example is a better car for sure but at 4 or 5 times the price?
      i would rather spend 5k on some good suspension and have a car that handles superior than anything from bmw or mercedes.

      Problem is some people are just delusional and blind sighted because they're a fanboy. There is manufacturers around the world that would kill to be compared to BMW. The fact of being considered as a contender against an iconic German manufacture is a good enough in itself
