Kwinzman using f instead of c is totally fine for a lot of the world. Believe it or not some of us still drive on the right side of the road not the left.
Streetips thank you for the time you take to explain the process, and don’t be discouraged by those few thumbs down, thumbs down are the people who wants to learn the process but, they never liked schools, the minute they see that mathematics is the key to get ahead on this trade, they give you a thumbs down. But it’s a good thing that they see the chemical reaction between the acids and the heat, and they will never dear to do the process by themselves and injure themselves or even get killed.
Making my way thought your older content and I gotta say, I could watch you sort through old jewelry for hours. Something about it is so interesting and soothing.
Your attention to detail is amazing! When you have misspoke, you or your editor always corrects it with captions, even though anyone who's watched more than a dozen of your vids knows what you meant to say! There are those that need it, the 1st time watchers and those that just don't pay attention. I have what might be a rhetorical question, because I believe I know the answer. When you put ice in to cool the gold precipitate (just before filtering) I'm assuming that's plain tap water. Because one of the main reasons you use distilled is to prevent silver chloride, but at that point of adding ice you know there's no possibility of silver in solution, therefore no need for distilled. Is this way of thinking correct?? So many things to say about this excellent video!!! This question is one that I've thought about, but don't ask because I think it sounds like a foolish question!!! Thank you, Sreetips!!!
The master does it again, I for one want to say thank you Sreetips, you have spawned a Generation of refiners, not including myself, Cheers, and keep up the good work!
This is probably one of your best training videos I've seen!! You said at the end of the vid that it was hard to video this one, but I didn't see it!! It looked real smooth from my view!!! Have a GREAT Day My Friend!!!!
YES !!!!!! Other then watching the discovery channel, when they did the "GOLD" show, this is the biggest pour I have ever had the privilege of watching. I appreciate your shows when you call out that ((Todays topic was not a venture to make money, rather, to explain the process and the math behind it, and that your methods work)), but, Yes, I know, you are putting in the leg work already, but, to hear some numbers, as to an abstract price, for what you have invested, into chemical(s) usage VS. the out come in the precious metals. I wouldn't dare hold you accountable, to state the facts, as costs fluctuate every minute, but, an abstract/approximate cost, to profit ratio would be so satisfying to hear. I have approx. 650 lbs of gold and silver crap from mil spec surplus, to just plated E-scrap junk. After 17 years of collecting the crap, I am still not confident enough to just jump into handling this whole processes, due to the dangers, that are typically safe for a person who knows fully what they are doing, and knows how to handle the bi-products. Until I get to the point that I fully understand the game, I am too chicken, LOL... The likeliness that it will be another 17 years, before I jump into this, I may resort to just trying to sell the stuff as it is, and let a company that does this stuff every day, deal with it. I have to mention, the past years, I am so interested in chemistry, but, I still feel like I am missing so much, or to say, "the more I learn, the more questions pop up"... This stuff is so neat, Keep up the fine work, Sir, I have learned quite a bit, that even the few books, never covered, and are logical, as to why or when you have done a procedure. Thank you, Dru
Dru, you would do better selling it on eBay. On the other hand, if you are interested in learning how to refine your material then just having it to work with is priceless. I don't process much escrap because the yields are too low and the amount of waste is usually high.
Another awesome video. I feel like I just ran a marathon and all I did was watch. I can't imagine how you must have felt doing the work. Thank you for your efforts!
This is the best practical demonstration of these skills I have seen on the internet. Your site will be treasured like my copy of Recovery and refining of Precious metals by C.W. Ammen.
Brilliant video. This video is your best one for me, extensive, educational and entertaining and the right amount of time for me to be sitting down while folding my laundry and learning about my most favorite subject in the world! You make it look and sound so easy when its anything but. You shouldve named your channel "The Alchemist" since this is all so transformative and magical to us viewers.
That was an awesome video. I think that time and effort paid off because the weight of the gold is worth over $5600. Not too bad for a couple day's work.
I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who has marathon sessions while making videos for their channel :) I had just such a one a couple of days ago, and I got to bed at only 8am the next morning. Let's hope our viewers will like what we did... the only thing is, I still need to edit my video while yours is already out there! Nice video by the way, I'm always entertained watching them... now, please excuse me, I have a video to edit :)
Never fail to learn something from Mr Sreetips. I'm literally confident with movinh forward with recovering ans refining Silver from Sterling. I'm really wanting to know more about like fume hoods, glassware and containers uses for processing. I see you run through so much Nitric and it makes my wallet hurt. Actually surprisingly simple to make but for someone who can afford the Nitric Acid it's a non-thought.
@sreetips that's a fair but not obscene amount at all when your hobby or business needs it. Now from my immediate thoughts of wanting to recover silver from Sterling is can I make a profit after selling the silver? If I had the means at the moment to refine gold, that wouldn't even be a question.
I just discovered your channel today and I am very intrigued. I love stuff like this. Because of you I am more intriguged than ever To learn how to do this. I know it will take time, but if I am able to do what you did Eventually with jewelry that my family no longer wants or sterling silver my family no longer wants I could make them a pretty penny. Who needs Cash for Gold services when you could make more money doing it yourself, even factoring in the chemicals, electricity, patience (thank God for my ADHD lol) etc. needed to produce the gold. God I love chemistry.
Paul, I just wish videos like these were around when I first started about 8 years ago. Back then there was nothing. No books, no magazines. I did stumble on the goldrefiningforum.com and that's where I learned how to do it.

This video is worth about as much as the amount of gold you yielded in the video. I don't know how you can afford what it must cost to pay for the positive comments these "people" are leaving. There can't be that much plated gold out there.
Gold is everywhere. But in such small quantities that it’s not worth trying to get it. I didn’t know you could pay people for positive comments. Always thought that you had to earn them.
It was a good video. Both parts were done very well . I was just a little let down to find out at the end that I wouldn't get rich. I let it get the best of me. Wow Joe Rogan even commented.
Now all that knowledge is spinning in me head !, I know when I go do my gold I'am going to have to watch this in parts To bad on your mold Yet a beautiful bar of gold !, Thanks for sharing Enjoyed
If you add silica sand to the gold melt with a bit of borax and just let it cool after melt, you can pull the hardened wad out of the crucible and whack it to break the glass and trash metal off the gold. The silica sand forms a barrier between the gold and trash. The borax helps to separate them.
Kevin, melting the metals, with borax, sand, or any other compound, will cause the metals to alloy. Some junk may be removed by fluxing like this, but it will not separate other metals from the gold. The only way to get three nines gold is to refine it with a wet chemical process.
Dissolution trying to drop out of solution - a piece of gold 'bricked by silver - make it rain! TY Shree I make a small fuss when you -take the rag off the bush - break the melt dish - chewing the cud on this one - the math -
Hi Streetips tbo you make the best refining & recycling videos on TH-cam I have a question on AP solution. I used the AP to scrap some motherboards my solution was dark green after that I took some scrap stainless steel and put it into the solution to pull the copper out. Now my solution is blue. What does that mean what kind of metal is still in the solution? Can I recover that metal? Thank you for your time, I know it's the
MrErikm stainless has other metals in it chromium nickle aluminum and others I use a good ol piece of iron to drop copper from solutions leaves for cleaner waste yours now has thoes other metals in it making it just as nasty as before I'm not sure how to recover these other base metals others hopefully will add to help u fix it good luck ...
Since everything in between 25 and 75 percent is no good - it's a see saw where either one can be assisted to the top or supercede one another move by one another when we disable or enable them - passive relativity - its very gentle at that level
You know what I just thought about something he was to tell me openly on here where you buy your gold and silver you with this many followers they would all be buying a the supplies that you use so they don't worry about it I will find it places to get it on my own thank you very much!
You are awesome. This video is your best in my opinion. Could you please make a video focused completely on the math and where and why you get the numbers?
Interesting the usefulness of OTC products meant to remove stumps. One formulation contains mbs, another (Spectracide) contains nearly pure KNO3 (which has "other uses" as an oxidizer).
There's one other aspect that might be enlightening: the total cost of chemicals/reagents needed to make a certain amount of pure gold. (I know that *nitric acid* is really expensive now.)
A typical refining for two Troy ounces of pure gold is less than fifty bucks, all in including reagents, electrical, water etc. doesn’t include the cost of the gold. But that doesn’t matter. Buying gold is NOT an expense. I’m swapping paper dollars that are declining, for gold, that’s rising. Gold is money. Paper dollars are a money substitute that require third-party validation. Take away the third party and they become worthless. Not so with gold. It stands on its own and requires no third-party to give it value. Since biblical times, and before.
I've had to break them before because too much borax in with the gold. I calculate 91+36+2 grams of pure gold. And I got 135 grams. There may have been some extra gold over the silver items that I added. And I added 5 grams of pure gold during the inquartation so that may have thrown things off a bit.
You are a pretty good chemist. The only think I don’t agree on it ever using tap water, I know sometimes it don’t hurt but I feel if you use to different waters you may not be thinking good accidentally put tap water when you should put distilled water. That’s just me.
I'm not a chemist. I do this as a hobby. After refining thousands of ounces of silver and hundreds of ounces of gold, knowing when to use tap water and when to use distilled water just kind of comes naturally. I've never accidentally poured tap water into a silver nitrate solution. Not yet anyway.
Really cool video. Where do you get all of the jewelry that you refine? You mentioned yard sales and flea markets? How does a guy like me that has no real knowledge of what to look for at these sales get into buying gold/silver jewelry to make a little profit? I mean I can just take a test stone/acid to a yard sale to test everything. Thanks.
The is no substitute for experience. I can tell just by looking if a piece is gold or silver. Because ive been doing it now for about 15 years. We go to yardsales every weekend. Here's an inside tip: take a small magnet with you. If the piece your interested in sticks to it, then it's probably not a precious metal. The magnet will stick to iron (and nickel) and precious metals are not normally alloyed with iron. A magnet is a gold buyers best friend. But if it don't stick it doesn't mean that it's gold. It could be gold plated over copper or brass, neither will stick to a magnet.
I’m not a chemist. I couldn’t explain it because I don’t know how. You don’t have to be a chemist to refine gold and silver. Platinum is a whole different story.
"Streetips? Have you seen my grandmothers silver spoons?" "Why yes dear i used them to inquart my latest refining project..." Famous last conversation between mr and mrs Sreetips. Mr Sreetips was later found dismembered and deposited in several buckets of various acids. (A joke from a fan)
Thank you for your videos! They are very detailed and explanatory. I enjoyed every single second of every video that I have watched so far on your channel. Could you please tell me the concentration of the first nitric acid you're using for the inquarted alloy and the concentration of the con nitric acid you've used for the aqua regia treatment? And also, it would help a lot if you could mention these concentrations in your next videos as I am sure some of us use your videos as a step by step guide for the process. Many thanks and keep up doing these brilliant videos
Someone said in a previous comment that "you may have spawned a new generation of refiners" and he might be 100% right. Personally I didn't know I could enjoy this so much until I accidentally found one of your videos, and then it hit me
I'll have to say you do awesome work. You should get your name out there using Facebook becoming a member to some of those gold prospecting groups there's a lot of them
You use a gas flame above the melting temperature of gold. Is the weight of the dry gold any different after you melt it? Do you lose any gold? I see the golden dirt compresses into a solid. Is there a weight loss? Thank you. Is the extra heat used to evaporate the impurities? I bought an electric 3K furnace to see it is can improve on the process. Gas is quicker I think. It takes 45 minutes to melt .5 kg of gold in an electric furnace.
As for breaking the mold, would the borax have burned off if you had taken the torch and re-melted the bar? (I don't know what a mold costs. Maybe it wasn't worth the effort?)
I broke the mold because I hit it too hard. I suppose that I could have heated it then pried the bar out. Then scrape the borax glass out to save the mold. But this illustrates why it’s important to keep borax away from graphite molds.
Wow! That came out amazing! That onegoes in the personal collection? LOL Long vid, and I loved every second of it! I like the inquartation method. Just hafta get yer arithmetic straight! Thanx very much!
Doing that math seemed so long in the video. This may simplfy it: wg=weight in grams hm=hall mark (10k is .417) (14k is .583) (18k is .750) pg=pure gold ag=silver needed bm=base metals am = amount to add Use this formula: wg X hm = pg X 3 = ag - bm = ag (wg - pg = bm) Then ag X 0.95 = am
How would you recommend to refine gold in form of very thin flakes from industry scrap? Its beyond paper thin but a lot of leefs, like 1kg. What aboit meltimg it down in a furnace first to het some bigger nuggets?
Have you thought about collecting the nitrogen monoxide gas and bubbling it through water to make more nitric acid. I know you won’t be able collect all of it but it seems like a useful byproduct.
loved that video mate, the length was good too. is it just my end or have the last 2 videos been much much quieter i can hardly hear you at your desk at all
Just watched this all last evening. Very interesting. I've just subscribed. Two questions that you may address elsewhere. 1. Does this all need to be done in one sitting or can it be left overnight and picked up? 2. Are chemicals the only way to do this or is there a less caustic way to extract gold?
You add sulfuric acid to precipitate lead (if there is any). Does any jewelry typically contain lead, or are you concerned about lead that may have been in solder?
Mike, in these placer gold videos I was searching for a way to extract the pure gold without having to use any nitric acid. But my preferred method would be to inquart the placer with silver and then part with hot dilute nitric acid. Inquarting and part with hot dilute nitric gets all the impurities out. Then I can usually get pure gold with the first aqua regia refining. Thank you!
Fantastic video. I am getting real close to trying my first attempt. The one thing I have a problem with are the fumes. Ok, they go up the flue but them where? I can’t afford a professional scrubber. I just don’t want to harm the dogs if they are walking around my shop. Do the fumes dilute to a safe level once They are sucked outside? Thanks and a wonderful video.
The fumes can cause serve distress several weeks after exposure. Frequent exposure in large amounts can kill. Keep the fumes away from people and pets.
That’s on pocket watch cases. Warranted 20 years mean the gold coating will last 20 years going in and out of your pocket before the brass begins to show
@@sreetips My great uncle owns a little auction house in Olathe, KS and growing up I was always going through everything and precious metals, antiques etc became my thing. Pocket watches always interested me and I know I've seen that now but I thought that was the life of the watch/warranty o0o0 I learned somethin new still so today was a good day lol

I use spectricide to burn off impurities that tend to float on top of the molten gold.
"Back up" haha I love this guy. Great vid
Thanks for the information brother this explains my last comment question lol kickass 😎👍💯🇺🇲🍺
Enjoyed the video as always Sreetips, thank you for making your videos.
Great video! It was painful to watch that graphite mold break, but the nice shiny gold bar was worth it.
Also, I just ran your numbers. You got 100% yield on your refining! That's incredible for scrap gold. Most times, it is under karat by a karat or two.
Man you are the champ. Well fricking done. Huge fan now
Welcome!
@@sreetips I do have a question…how does one procure nitric acid and hcl?
Also. Does the fume hood as well as this setup require being in a temp controlled environment?
I buy nitric from dudadiesel. HCl from ace hardware.
Not that I’m aware of
Really cool video.
Thanks for the tip. I bet you could make some good money with your knowledge at these sales. Thanks for the great videos. Take Care.
the first man to pour acid onto his gold was a brave man
Another cracking video and a great lump of gold at the end. The sound levels were very quiet at some points in the vid though.
I'm checking into a new camera that has a wireless mic so that I can be heard clearly at all levels and ranges. Plus I'll speak up in the future.
Just Wondering. Could you have melted the gold out of the mold without damaging anything?
King of chemistry
My 9-year-old watched it with me. Dad, she says he made the gold into poop, then pee, then poops, then pee, then poop again then back into gold.
WOW Im gona watch this video over and over
I really dig (like) your videos.
I have seen almost all.
Plz, sir, could you explaín on a more molecule explaining of what he is going on. Ty
I’m not a chemist. I couldn’t explain it because I don’t know how. You don’t have to be a chemist to refine gold and silver. Platinum is a whole different story.
You are a professional , the best 😎❤️
Thank you
Personally I didn't know I could enjoy this so much until I accidentally found one of your videos, and then it hit me
The nitric acid is 68 to 70 percent concentration I buy from gfs chemicsls
Thank you, Sreetips!
Your videos are fantastic and very thorough. Can you please do a start to finish video on processing MLCc’s.....
I've never processed those. But I'll do a video if I can get my hands on some.
🔴Super Like🔴 very cool 👏👏👏👍
Again ! good video, looks like fun with a lot of tedious work.
Your videos are awesome keep them coming
I'll have to say you do awesome work. You should get your name out there using Facebook becoming a member to some of those gold prospecting groups there's a lot of them
I was invited to join one, and I did. But I can't remember the name of it.
I did the same dang thing to my new mold this last weekend
You use a gas flame above the melting temperature of gold. Is the weight of the dry gold any different after you melt it? Do you lose any gold? I see the golden dirt compresses into a solid. Is there a weight loss? Thank you. Is the extra heat used to evaporate the impurities? I bought an electric 3K furnace to see it is can improve on the process. Gas is quicker I think. It takes 45 minutes to melt .5 kg of gold in an electric furnace.
There are losses all along the way. I don’t know the amount of loss. I’ve never taken the time to measure it.
what are the best hood vents to use. affordable as well. thanks. enjoying the videos
I'm partial to my Labconco. It has fiberglass interior and a built in fan. It was cheap ($250 on eBay) and it was easy to install.
LOL
Long vid, and I loved every second of it!
I like the inquartation method.
Just hafta get yer arithmetic straight!
Thanx very much!
Doing that math seemed so long in the video. This may simplfy it:
wg=weight in grams
hm=hall mark (10k is .417) (14k is .583) (18k is .750)
pg=pure gold
ag=silver needed
bm=base metals
am = amount to add
Use this formula: wg X hm = pg X 3 = ag - bm = ag
(wg - pg = bm)
Then ag X 0.95 = am
LMAO!
Looking forward to that stock pot recovery video!
It's coming up.
that turned out very nice brother very nice thanks for the video
Just watched you refine scrap gold into 4.8 oz ingot, and WOW you have a new fan!!!!! Would like to know if, and how I can buy one of your ingots!!!
I'll be doing a gold filled scrap video soon. The pure gold ingot will be offered for sale in the video pointing to my eBay store.
i love thease videos streetips, by the way you look like super man just saying please keep them comming more 999 please
It's one of my dreams to own a gold bar
I can sell you a gold bar
How would you recommend to refine gold in form of very thin flakes from industry scrap? Its beyond paper thin but a lot of leefs, like 1kg.
What aboit meltimg it down in a furnace first to het some bigger nuggets?
I got some flakes in water. Added a drop of nitric, turned clear blue, no gold present.
Percect. Thanks very much for your help.
Have you thought about collecting the nitrogen monoxide gas and bubbling it through water to make more nitric acid. I know you won’t be able collect all of it but it seems like a useful byproduct.
That would be a good experiment.
Garys Reclaiming and recycling day is every day of the week in Tro River, wI. 54241
loved that video mate, the length was good too. is it just my end or have the last 2 videos been much much quieter i can hardly hear you at your desk at all
Got it, I'll speak up and increase the volume with my voice.
not watched the vid yet but thumbs up for the Clark Kent look.
Not the first time I've heard that.
You my Friend are flipping awesome. Love your vids
I had never heard of ther X year warranted. I have things I need to find and double check now omg
Excellent!
