greetings from the Netherlands, -1 degrees celcius here at night... so all that is left here in the veggie garden is kale(they need frost to produce some sweetness in them), some leeks, beetroot and even some lettuce and endive in the greenhouse, but for the rest the entire veggie garden is in its winter rest phase. in oct/nov i put next years garlic cloves in the ground, they all popped up a bit to much even, same i done with the huge amount of spring onions i had left over last season (i plant them in following year to grow them into big onions, always works fine here in the Netherlands)
Hello!! 👋 Wow! - 1 degree is cold!! 🥶 It’s so hot here over Summer not much grows so I usually stop between December and February when it starts to cool down again! We will be resting our gardens at the same time but in two different seasons! ☺️🌽🍅🥒🌶️🧄
Larissa, you made me laugh, to hear your sweet voice say "little sh!T's 😂 I did my fair share of garden swearing the last couple of weeks too. I was away overnight and came home to find this one tomato, that I'd been waiting on, gone! Like completely disappeared. 😢 I know it happens but it just started blushing after a long struggle. In happier news, a gold rush zucchini appeared in 24 hours, 10cm long! Rain rain go a-bloody-way!
Haha! Thanks Amanda! I loved The Office!! I didn’t even realise o said that about the worms until I was editing the video! lol! They were freakishly large worms! 😳🪱🪱
Looks like you got quite the worm harvest. :O I've been harvesting some apricots and cherries so far in Melbourne. Been sowing some snowpea, green beans and tomato seeds. Hope to be harvesting veggies in the next few weeks. Love seeing all your plants growing so well in QLD.
You’re so lucky to grow cherries!! I am going to try and grow a tree up here but don’t like my chances! I haven’t tried home grown apricots! Do they taste amazing compared to supermarket ones?
Thanks so much Andrew. I’m surprised my garden is hanging in there with this heat, humidity, rain and the onslaught on grasshoppers and caterpillars. I’m sure it will come to an abrupt end soon! Can’t wait for Autumn! ☺️
Not harvesting but just rented 30 acres to try and make a homestead/ market farm weeded and turned over soil in 5 10m by 1m beds planted out tomato’s, capsicum, chilli (habenero and Birds Eye), pumpkin, sweet potato and lettuce got a couple casa Bianca eggplants, golden squash, spring onion and then some lobelia and trying to sprout some marigolds 😅 gotta go seed shopping to broaden my garden but good start started couple lemon trees from seed so be a couple years before they produce but no better time to start then now
Oh wow! That sounds amazing Jake! Whereabouts is your land? I would love to have way more land to grow a tonne of fruit trees! Exactly! There is no better time to start than now and for food security reasons too! A lot of farmers are getting old here in Australia and there children are not taking over the farms because they don’t see the value so it’s more important than ever to grow your own food and farmers markets will become so much more popular and valuable in the future! Well done to you! 🙂🧄🍅🥒🌽🌶️🥬🍑🌸
Hello Riss, How are you? from what i've learned on elephant garlic, ideally the bottom of the plant would be brown and the upper 2/3 still be green, yellowing and wilting can mean too much water, but can also mean not enough water and the soil got to dry and impeded the plants ability to photosynthesize. I would suggest growing those where they have some cover from too much rain and you can monitor the watering schedule yourself. I am sure you know this, the two weeks curing the garlic don't let them touch, can trigger too much moisture on that spot and trigger rot. I am too aware of your magic green thumb so those cucumbers being huge is no shocker, my grandmother says GG to you, to add to our last talk about rats in garden, I asked the master here for me, my Grandmother, she said crush the onion and garlic and put in the corners of your beds, can also try whole cloves and cotton balls soaked in clove oil, like the peppermint oil, dried bay leaves, cayenne pepper or regular black pepper spread around. She also said you can add some plants around the garden like Marigolds, daffodils, and chrysanthemums, all plants rats hate, anyways let me know what you try and what works, of course the stuff you put around will be watered down with rain so most you will have to reapply the whole growing season. That's my two cents on today, I learn more from you than vice versa, Beautiful and my favorite gardener on YT and great friend across the ocean. Have a wonderful Sunday, I am always happy to see you. 👋 I almost fainted when you said Jimmy, lol, there was my 5 seconds of fame, ty ;)
Hi Jimmy! I’m great thanks! How are you? Thankyou for the tips on the elephant garlic! I suspect there wasn’t enough water as the grow bags dry out very quickly! And thanks for tip on curing! I will make sure they are separated! Some more great tips to prevent rats naturally thanks for that! Hope you have a lovely Sunday my friend across the ocean! ☺️🌽🥒🍅🌶️🧄🥬🍑
I left on Friday for Christmas in New York. I’ve seen the news with all the rain and flooding! I have no idea what my garden is going to be like when I get home in the new year! I don’t think there will be much left!! 😢
@@risslittleveggiepatch The news just came on and said that Wivenhoe has begun releasing water after days of unrelenting rain. It’s wet, but rain is intermittent. The bugs will be having a feast but all is not as bad as the news is making out. Enjoy your holiday in NY!
Haha! I’m like that with snow peas! They just taste so good straight off the vine!! I started my cucumbers really early this year! I have never picked so many cucumbers before! It’s been wonderful! Hopefully yours will start pumping them out soon! ☺️🥒🥒🥒🥒🥒
Hi Larissa. I've never seen worms move so quickly - they were almost jumping! We have lots here in the UK but they're much more docile thankfully 🙂. I've not grown cucumber yet, but if I do and am as successful as you - how do you preserve them when you have so many at once? Enjoying your videos - thank you.
Yeah those worms were crazy! I think they got a shock when they came out of the pot due to the heat and sun!! I haven’t had a chance to preserve any cucumbers yet. We have been eating a lot of them and lately giving them to family as there is more than I can eat! I want to learn to pickle which is something I haven’t tried before. I’ll do a video about it if I do! 🙂🥒🥒🥒🥒
Omg i wish i had as many worms as you do! Even my compost bucket doesnt have that many worms 😭 and the heat has been crazy over here this week so idk how they’re faring 😭
I don’t know where they have all come from. I must be making some supercharged compost at the moment! lol! Yeah Summer is a killer! I can’t wait for Autumn again! 🙂🥒🧄🌶️🥬🌽🍅
What are you harvesting at the moment in your garden? I would love to know so leave a comment and tell me below! :)
Leeks, Amish toms, carrots, capsicums, cukes, asparagus...figs and eggplant soon...here in Clarence Valley
Elephant garlic generally has a single onion like bulb in the 1st year and forms cloves in the second year
Yes I have seen that but these were huge bulbs that I bought from the markets so I figured they had already been through that first year stage! ☺️🧄🧄🧄🧄
The cucumbers grow so well and taste so good! Great video! 👌🏼
Thanks! The cucumbers have been a huge success this year! ☺️😘

Hi Larissa, great video. I'll be watching to see how well those traps work as I had a rat problem last year as well. Cheers
Thanks Keith! I’ll let you know how the traps go! 🙂
It's always dangerous watching your videos just before dinner Larissa!😂 What a great harvest and fantastic video!
Thanks Stephen! Haha, sorry, I’ll try and upload earlier next week! 😂🥒🍑🥬🌽🍅

Picking at my peas now, not sure a single pod has made it inside 😅 wishing my cucumbers were as far along as yours.
