Best version of the ballet in my opinion, and I heard lots of it. The dynamic is so impressive. And of course, one of the best compositions ever made.

One of the best performances of this piece. The analog mastering is very nice and detailed, but I feel that the pressing is a bit noisy for the price (and the audiophile badge). Do you happen to have the Bruckner 4 by Daniel Barenboim/CSO? It's said it sounds fantastic. Thanks!

I believe the timpanist in this recording is German born? The best version of the Rite of Spring is MTT with the Boston Symphony Orchestra with the late great Vic Firth playing timpani

Hi Bob, Very impressive dynamics. Do you have a comparison copy at all? These releases are definitely being successful. The Sumiko is a very neutral cartridge it seems.

Hi Nigel. It's a great sound! I don't have an original release to compare this with. TBH I've never been really blown away by DG orchestral recordings. Not that they're bad, just not as consistently successful as, for instance, Decca, Philips or EMI. But it seems that it may have been the mastering for the original releases that was the problem all along given the sonics on these Original Source reissues. The Sumiko is lovely performer - just seems to get out of the way!

@@ClassicsAndVinyl Hi Bob, I must admit to having a few DG recordings. I agree that their sonics are very variable.

@@ClassicsAndVinyl I was wondering what this new series was like. Due to the cost of living I have stopped buying vinyl for the time being. I hope that will change in the future. I would have been very tempted by the Bruckner symphonies set but probably around $1,000 Australian by the time it lands on the doorstep! I agree DG have always been a mixed bag with the sound often right at the border of what sounds good versus what sounds grating. Very dry and in your face metallic sounding. But they then also are the perfect proving ground for a great listening setup since if you an get a setup perfect, most will sound spectacular whilst still pushing the edge of that "acceptable" envelope.

Hello. What is the best cartridge you have tried for classical music? Thank you.

That's a difficult one to answer! Out of my little collection, if I just had to have one I'd go for the Ortofon Synergy GM SPU. Maybe it's not the most neutral but I love the sound of it. I tend to cycle my cartridges so as not to wear them out too fast, but every time the SPU gets back on the tonearm it's like putting on a comfy pair of slippers and sitting back with a nice glass of red wine 😀😀

One of the lesser versions of this masterpiece. Nothing to compare to Tilson- Thomas/ BSO, Ozawa/CSO or Chailly/Cleveland !
