I only had this figure for a week. It came with a paint chip under the shoulder joint and eventually grew bigger the more I pose him around. It's actually so disheartening because this was my first mafex figure and ive been very careful with him but man it just sucks.
These colors turn an already great figure into the best comic spider-man figure imo. The headsculpts while reused are still great and with Romita esque heads he is the best classic spidey for me. The sentinel does rival it but in terms of pure comic spider-men this is the best imo. (Plus with the bagley heads he is a pure mvc spidey based on the in-game sprites imo)
@@JoshHill-jt7zv nah not really. mcfarlane spidey has a distinct flatter head and iconic points near the middle of his mask from the eyes with the black and white of the eyes pointing up. Early 90's bagley spidey didn't really have this and if you compare art from back then and the headsculpts from this figure it's a dead on match
My first Mafex that I bought only a month ago (Carnage re-issue) came with a massive bit of paint missing in one of the eyes, plus the black paint rubs of on the face too. I can also see that the black line work on your new spidey has rubed off also on the chest. Not a happy first time customer here.
I think the reason for paint rub on this one aside from maybe not putting a clear coat is probably because of the matte paint, I heard from customizer that matte paint is less durable compared to glossy/metallic paints.
Idk man I think it's just certain ones because I pose mine in at least 20 different extreme poses for ACBA and I haven't gotten any paint rub what's so ever
Hmm, interesting. It’s possible the paint rub isn’t really a universal issue, though I’ve had a few people tell me they had the same problem as me. I guess it just varies
I’ve some plans but haven’t had much time to make new customs. I have some old customs I never showcased that I may do videos on, as well as smaller mods/minor repaints that I might show as well
Sadly yes, it got bad enough I decided to just repaint certain portions to be more paint-chip proof… I’m not sure if this is a universal issue though, I haven’t seen too many others report the same problem, so maybe it’s a hit or miss thing
My reissue of the 075 had paint rubbing/chipping off in the inner thighs and my original 075 had the same problem but in the armpit area so I’m not really to surprised with paint rubbing/chipping off on this one except for that lower back/upper butt area which i thought was weird but it’s mafex 😂
I have paint chipping on a couple MAFEX figures, it’s the nature of frequent posing over time- it’s off putting on this release though since it’s happened so soon and so easily whereas other figures I didn’t really have it happen right away
The figure is amazing, its just that I've always found his head to look really big, kinda baloonish imo. And i do prefer the smaller eyes as opposed to the huge ones, but just like how u did when u swapped it with the NWH Integrated suit head, it'll look perfect imo
Nice review! I think the paint qc issue varies. I bought two of these from BBTS and after posing them around for a bit, the paint remains intact. How long have you had him until the paint started scratching?
same issue happened to me on the upper torso while taking it off its stand and it literally shattered my soul. contemplating on getting another copy but its so much money to spend just for a 50/50 chance u get a really good copy with no issues.
I think it's really cool, I ordered the 075 version wich you also showed in this video. I probably will buy the 185 version a.k.a the classic costume version aswell in the future idk when but I'm planning to. The only real personal downside for me is that I think the paint job should be better like perhaps better paint that stays longer or better and doesn't smudges sometimes... But overall I think it's one of the most perfect spider-man action figures def top 3 and I'd still buy these. I watched a TON of reviews with most of em praising it very much so yeah thx for the insight man. Though I think the problems aren't universal and depends on your luck and how they did yours, some have the same problems and some not at all but I hope mine doesn't, that's what would turn me off the most and I'll probably won't move mine to much.
@@SpoonDude I see. I thought it would still be worth around 70 usd but I guess not hahaha (just checked ebay). Hope u can find a good deal someday :) or better yet, we get a spiderman artist head pack from hasbro. Though not likely at all, that would be amazing!
I’ll probably do a short video on this, but I recently touched mine up with some navy blue acrylic paint that I mixed with white and pretty much matched the color perfectly.
I know this is a video for the 185 version but i have a paint rub issue on my original mafex 75 spiderman on the blue area on one of the arms. What paint would you recommend?
my left wrist joint was way too stiff does anybody know how to fix that? also the left foot and lower torso and left shoulder jonts are too stiff aswell.
As much as I long for this figure, I've always had awful luck with paint rub and I just cannot warrant this price tag for something that needs a top coat just to help maintain it...
Spoon Dude, I had a question, currently looking into this figure, and when I heard you talking about the quality, I wondered where you got the figure, since the joints and whatnot are all good, I wanted to get it from a good website, there’s one on Amazon, bbts, and others.
Not sure there’s a perfect match out the bottle, you’re probably gonna have to mix the colors yourself I did a video showing how I fixed the paint rub on my figure th-cam.com/video/znXJMBRtdMs/w-d-xo.html
The black wash on the lines inside the red seems to be bleeding, I saw some of the original ones looking really messy and getting worse over time. Do you find this to be an issue?
I got a KO for free of the version w the head , the Peter head was painted ugly and I redid the panel lines and removed darkened overspray. It was free 🤷♀️ , but I do have real Mafex
The shoulders being “reversed” is on purpose by Mafex, otherwise they wouldn’t have “reversed” them for the Reissue, Web-Man, Symbiote and this release consistently.
I maintain it’s some weird error at the design level where they just mixed them up and now it’s set this way… I don’t really see why they would deliberately have the musculature distorted that way, and the costume not quite aligned correctly
@@SpoonDude The musculature seems fine since front and side delts tend to have more striations and jut out more due to generally having more development, the costume definitely is misaligned though. To me it seems like Mafex wanted the shoulders to be anatomically correct but were too lazy to resculpt the lines.

I'd say the headsculpts resemble mcfarlane's spidey look

Yeah the paint chipping is something that urks my soul to happen on my copy of the figure on the under arm

Looking forward to see new ones thanks

The problem with the paint makes me think about canceling my pre order. Has this gotten worse since you posted the review?

I have the CT toys classic costume. And its a very good copy. 200$ is insane for a figure

That figure has way too many qc issues for the price. For me, Mafex put out an L with this one. Mine broke in 2 spots almost right away. I
Fair
I think I'll still go with metallic colours cause I'm a sucker for metallic.

So in short dont buy it?
I think them gonna repaint this figure and give another head sculpt
I want animated 1994 style
And hey your videos are great
Just buy the Mafvel Legends one. It's awesome. Just lacks toe articulation.
You should check out the snapshot spiderman if ur looking for a romita spider-man :)
That figure’s been on my want list for years but always goes crazy expensive lol

What type of blue paint would be best if you have to touch it up?
I’ll probably do a short video on this, but I recently touched mine up with some navy blue acrylic paint that I mixed with white and pretty much matched the color perfectly.

Is that mafex integrated suit head sculpt you used for the swap?

mine is on the way in the mail.. would you recommend putting sealant on it out of the box just to play it safe? & what sealant should i get? thanks!
Anybody have recommendations on a good blue to fix rub/chipping on this figure? I can’t seem to find one that will work

Are the hands on the 075 are custom made?
They’re hands from the MAFEX ITSV Peter B Parker

The hands on the original... What are those? Custom?
They’re hands from the Into the Spiderverse Peter B Parker MAFEX
Not sure why it didn’t come with the unmasked head?
So the original doesn t completely lose its value. Mafex knee what they re doing
This Spidey is the same body mold of the Ben Reilly different plastic then 075 spiderman
Different plastic than the 75, yes. But it’s the same sculpt as 75, Ben Reilly’s Spidey is mostly a different figure with different sculpted details

I feel like this is one of the best spiderman figures, but i don't like at all those headsculpts
Cool.
I completely agree with you on the headsculpt. I was wishing for a more "classic" look like romita's art
