- Hi guys, i am trying in this film to give you an understanding on how much it has cost me so far in opening up a very small shop, its shocking how fast things add up, you have your obvious like the rent and rates but there are so many hidden costs and i am sure i havent found them all yet, but hope you enjoy this short film and it helps you if you ever decide to open up a shop.

It is interesting how the UK and USA have different economies. Like what is a boot sale? Is it like a bunch of people selling stuff out of their vehicles? Here in the US we have laws and licenses that prohibit random selling out of vehicles without a peddlers license for example. Malls are dying here so a shop in a mall would be more profitable than a stand alone shop. People in the US don't do a lot of walking . unless it is a concentrated retail district like a downtown. Viable brick and morter stores are consignment shops with individual vendor booths or a small shop in the mall. Lots of people are going online as a trend. I have been fooled as a sales person even with the one item out method because of people switching a fake ring for the real one. Good luck with your shop.
The shop looks great and your ideas on marketing are spot on. It so puts me off looking at things without a price. And your packaging will be great. On security you have pulled out all the stops. Just a thought on the roof repair. If it's a flat roof you may want to install bars there. If in doubt ask the local police if they have had any problems with that in the area. When we were opening just estate agents, their advice was a real eye opener. good luck Walter, you have worked for it love.

This is a fairly recent passion for me, only a few years, but I love it! I am moving up a little bit over here, I have about 1000 new pieces of inventory including clothes and cast iron cookware I need to list. I am upgrading my ebay store to a premium store November 1st. I wish I had the nerve to do what you are doing, I love what you have created, your store is beautiful. XX

Great Rundown Walter Lay away is A great Idea ,It allows people on lower incomes to get that special gift , and Will put you ahead of the larger retailers .

The shop is perfect. Imagine if you had a big one, you might be renting space to the person who stole your crystal. The security sounds great but I would be careful at your home too (which I am sure you are) as the wrong people who are local and know where you live might be under the impression that you store your jewelry at home.
