      I would say I am somewhere in between... Just over a year ago, I lost my soul mate after almost 37 years of marriage. I have a lot of solo backpacking and solo car travel experience, but more civilized travel, cruising, flying and overseas I am a newbie. My husband was the international traveler as he had worked overseas right out of college in his 20s. He could really get us around and great accommodations. I guess my standards are lower and I am more outdoors focused. I learned I don't like luggage with wheels for solo travel and I don't need that much even on a 14 day cruise that I have to pack more than a carry on backpack and a personal bag that fits under the seat in a plane. I am excited to have found your channel. Thank you for taking the time to create this content.

      @@anitasimmons3599 I'm excited you found my channel too and I'm sorry for your loss. I love outdoors too and have a fair amount of hiking, camping experience but like you, I want to see a bit more beyond the trail. I do enjoy rail and cruise travel nowadays because they allow me a bit more time to relax and just enjoy the journey, rather than be constantly thinking about transfers, airports, car rentals, ubers, public transport, etc. I mean, there's still that but much less of it. I also work still so I have less time to wander and I find that a train gives me more experiences and less hassle. Good for you on the packing side! I find that I still pack way too much stuff!! I have a solo cruise scheduled for summer so I'll be covering solo cruise content soon.

    "Taxis don't always take credit cards"... Preach! This has happened to me several times. I now get local cash at the airport ATM or as soon I can get some. Safe travels.

      Yes. That is where I am in my life. Now that I have fewer commitments at home it's time to travel a bit more. 🙂 Thanks for the comment!

    You mentioned building points/loyalty and such with hotels. Any specific recommendations on this??

    • @AlexTravelsSolo
      @AlexTravelsSolo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I prefer IHG these days (InterContinental, Holiday Inn, etc.) You can earn points with stays, by using their credit cards and redemption is not as difficult or expensive as with other plans. But ultimately the best program for you depends on where you travel and which hotel chain you prefer.

    Thanks for your video on solo travel. I'm getting ready to leave on my first solo long distance Amtrak trip. I lived in Europe and travelled extensively by train, but this will be my first long-distance trip US. Your video was very helpful.

    Just found your videos today...love them. Like you, I work full time, but am looking at options for solo traveling. I lost my mom, my traveling companion for the last 26 years, so am now reinventing my life as a solo person. Excited to start traveling again, but was somewhat anxious about doing it as a solo female. There are so many beautiful and interesting places to see here in the states that are calling to me. It's now a matter of how long a trip and the budgeting. Looking forward to watching more of your videos. Safe travels!

    I'm planning my first solo trip by train for next year. I have been wanting to do this trip since I was a kid. The trick will be where to start because I want to do two different trains and I know you don't plan connections same day due to freight traffic delays. So excited.
    Your videos are a big help. Thank you for posting.

    Great video... Although I have learned most of these things by experience like getting into problems with a taxi driver who said that he would take a credit card but in the end did not and overcharged as well as four hours at customs.. the best advice is to "pack patience "

      One time I had a cab driver who drove me to an ATM so I could pay him cash... now that feels so sketchy. Safe travels and thanks for the comment.

    Do you have any advice for avoiding single supplement fees? Being charged extra for being alone feels like it eliminates a lot of prepackaged items if you don't want to pay it.

    • @AlexTravelsSolo
      @AlexTravelsSolo  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I just booked my first 'solo' cruise and I did pay a bit more than my individual share would have been if I was part of a couple. I don't know that there is a way to avoid the single supplement entirely but there are ways to save. Norwegian Cruise has solo 'studio' cabins which seem fairly priced, I'd recommend checking into those. I'll be covering some solo cruising topics this summer after my cruise.

      @@AlexTravelsSoloI hope you have a good time! I get that they're usually selling these packages prices to be attractive to couples, but it always feels like it's at the expense of a solo traveller. I'll take a look at Norwegian.

    These are sensible tips for ALL travelers. I was expecting advice which applies specifically to the SOLO person. I wonder if your viewers can tell us of any unusual situations.
    I've traveled solo, duo, trio & group: each has it's pro's and cons. Your gender makes a big difference.
    Some countries are known for sex tourism.
    I'm hetero male and not interested in making friends that way. So, that is a major criteria when choosing a place to visit.
    A single fellow will be bothered at every turn by the match makers, to say it politely. I don't think that ever happens to solo lady travelers, except for 2 countries in Africa.

    • @AlexTravelsSolo
      @AlexTravelsSolo  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, a lot of the advice are things that apply to all, not just solo travelers. Gender, personal demeanor, destination, time of year... these are all factors that make a huge difference. Be safe out there!
