  • Wanted to share a bit about why I chose to sing Moonage Daydream on the Rats tour and it’s included in the new album Live in New York Ninety-Four!

Moonage Daydream was a perfect song to cover for the Rats tour, as the band lineup was uniquely appropriate to really dig into it. David Bowie was an unwitting mentor to me in the early days. His ability to morph and shape shift while elegantly articulating the sensation of alienation that I think a lot of young people feel was a huge influence on me. Its powerful message still echoes across the years, as feeling isolated and alienated is even more epidemic today than it was back then, with people everywhere struggling to maintain some sort of sense of connection - to each other, to the world at large, and even to themselves.
Moonage Daydream in particular is a song I could relate to, as it spoke to my desire to connect with other people through standing on a stage, which is almost like being on another planet, sometimes, and of course, the references to being part of a sci-fi, holographic, electric universe was very close to my heart. It’s still one of my favorite songs to play.
