Hi everyone and Happy New Year! I want to start by saying how lovely it is that so many watch these videos and find comfort in the reminder of family member's. As for the silk, and any animal products, yes, I avoid these things for compassionate reasons. I do not want to bring harm or pain to others in order to satisfy a 'want' in my life. As for Silk being worn as a tradition in Indian culture, I cannot speak to that, but will say that my recent visit to Bangalore was amazing, I fell in love with India, its people, its culture and of course its Vegetarian food. While there, I bought some lovely Pashminas for my mother and wife... these were made with, you guessed it, silk. So, will I buy them next time I visit? No I wont, but at the same time I remind myself that I am learning, and that this life is a journey. Amazing video, hope to see more in 2018!!
I am glad I stumbled on this today , was looking for thakalai thokku, she is like the grandma I lost at the young age. I wish her all the health and happiness. I can keep listening to her non stop.
Ganesh, I can't tell you how good hearing your mom makes me feel. She is such a graceful and gentle presence and has a wonderful way of explaining things. I miss my mom so much when I listen to her. You are so so so lucky to be able to actually live with such a saintly person on a day to day basis. Thank you for making such a wonderful experience of listening to her possible for all of us.

I always remember his teaching and cherish his memories and guidance in mind... no one can replace our parents except our kids... in TH-cam I was mostly watching videos related to agriculture only one-day I saw Maami's backyard greens video and immediately got addicted to it I felt I'm hearing my father and now I watch and re-watch her videos..... women should be more stronger than men... make yourself stronger by Maami's guidance.... as a unknown brother I pray god and wish your husband and kids will give you all happiness and love.....

Hai mami I keep looking all your videos ...a big fan of you and your conversations Wanted to add few points to the discussion When Ganesha was writing MahaBharatham the only instruction given by Vyasar was if you have any doubts while writing let me explain to you and then you proceed. At one point Vyasar recites a shloka in sanskrit which gives the meaning there is no theetu for these four ecchal(salaiva),Vaandhi(vomit),Sava Porvai(blanket of a dead) and Shiva prasadam.Ganesha is confused and asks why. Ecchal which is the milk that is left back after kannukutty drinks Vaandhi which is the honey vomited by bee Sava porvai which is the silk that we get from cocoon And shiva prasadam for vaishnavites Religiously this is acceptable in our traditions but technically if one wants to get rid of all these is appreciated as conveyed by mami I read it so long ago and just thought of sharing it Sorry if am wrong somewhere

Namaskaram Mami, Mama & Ganesh anna, began with very interesting topic, The ahimsa silk is 3 times costlier than the non-ahimsa silk, the one who invented is Mr. Rajaiah who is in Hyderabad. Fortunately we heard about ahimsa silk and about his invention before our wedding, contacted him and got our wedding & engagement sarees & dothi from him. He had very limited collection(10-15 sarees) as there is no support for this kind of silk and it's three times costlier than regular silk, because they need three times more hatched cocoons since they're damaged by the butterfly to get off, so cannot get single string of silk from an ahimsa cocoon.

I heard about the silk obtained from coccoons by Mami. I like your postings very much as it not only gives good old Recepies but throws light on several things.. I have researched ( my ph. D) and my subject being dresses and ornaments of ancient karnataka.) During my studies I Have read about the silk weaving in ancient India. There are Verities of silks. the silk obtained from coccoons is one variety. Which came to India somewhere in 2nd century B.C. from China. This silk is not considered auspicious.. According to me. Silk also got from a type of leaf This silk is Called ' Patrorna ' ( patra means leaf and oorna is wollen) Which is considered auspicious. Dukoola is another variety.
