- In this video I discuss methods for casting and explain the nature of plaster and hydrostone, also known as gypsum cement, and how it behaves inside the mold. I’m also sharing with you techniques to eliminate air bubbles and explain why air bubbles occur. It is my hope that this video aides you in creating your own successful castings.
Hydrostone is very hard once cured and is 25x stronger than plaster of Paris. I show how I used a surform, knives and dental tools to edit parting lines out of the finished product. I also cover some tips and techniques for reassembly or mending broken parts from my casting. FREE Education here all day.

Wonderful video!! I looked through and could not find what type of glue you used to attach her arms?
No glue is going to set immediately which is a setting problem. The arms may move out of alignment before it sets. With that said, pc7 or gorilla epoxy are good candidates. If you want to get very serious drill 5-6 holes with a paneling-nail-sized bit on both mating surfaces. Next take a wad of epoxy "putty", smear generous amounts in all holes and sandwich the wad between the two surfaces for a rock-solid connection when set/cured. Best of luck 🤞
Is there a reason you don't vacuum de-gas the slurry? Does it cause a problem?
Woudl reassembly work with concrete? I have a figure I would like to cast in concrete but I may have to take it apart .

Hydrostone is acrilic resin + plaster?
No. Hydrostone is a type of gypsum cement, a very hard type of plaster. If you're mixing resin, use marble powder for a much more beautiful casting.
