When I saw them take out the entire wiring harness, I would have made a sizeable wager they would NEVER get it back together. Outstanding job by everyone. Can't wait to see this run!
Looks more intimidating than it is. A lot of it will almost lay into place as it designed to fit the contour of the car. Not at all attempting to discredit the amount of work, just offering perspective.
@@Moises-kf1hg I once pulled THREE tubes off the carburetor of a chain saw I was fixing. After several hours of attempting to get it to run I finally looked it up on TH-cam and fixed it. So you can imagine my perplexed self looking at that wiring harness and thinking, "What the hell do I do now?"
@@captainfancypants4933 I wish I would have been smart enough to do that, but my god, THREE tubes, how hard could it have been for me to fix. The problem was my thought process of how I THOUGHT it was supposed to work, not how it actually worked. Learned my lesson though.
I wasn't sure about the white colour to begin with but with all the various splitters, vents & other trim pieces now in black, the overall look is great! In addition, it must have been a great relief when you corrected your over filling of the engine oil, such that the car no longers blows out tons of white smoke at start up. I have been following this project from the start & each episode is a must see for me. Keep up the great work & I really admire your hard work & commitment on this complicated build. 👍
The car is nearly there and looks amazing and I must say that this has been one of the best series of videos I have ever watched on TH-cam. Thanks to yourself Vtuned as your skill never ends and to your brother for the amazing paint job. So happy that the engine is okay and it was just a bit too much oil, can't wait to see it finished and being driven.
Happy for you that the only issue was the oil being overfilled. I know what an awesome feeling it is when you have been bummed out cuz you are expecting the worst then the fix turns out to be cheap and easy. I'm sure you feel excited about this car again.
White was a great choice it's looking good. When you filled in that square camera hole with a patch piece and used panel bond to help secure it there's a better way, 'most of the time'. Use the same piece that you got the patch piece from and cut long thin sliver's, like welding rod size and use them to weld the pieces together. Just use some kind of heat source, not so much to warp the panel. By doing this your using all the same material for great strength and almost as strong as it was new.
I'm not a fan of white cars, but Paul did his usual phenomenal job of painting the car. With the black accents it has that whole stormtrooper vibe amd since I'm a ginormous Star Wars geek from way back when the movies first came out ,that looks good to me.
I have been a quiet doubter since the beginning but your persistence and ability have really shown. Great work and very happy for you and your engine that you got that sorted. You may not be a mechanic but every mechanic has to start somewhere and your natural ability to get things done and learn from mistakes makes you further ahead than many. Great work.
Amazing job on the McLaren! The white with black accents is perfect. You can't go wrong with the simplicity. The complexity of the job is mind numbing. I bet your next project will be restoring a space shuttle. Great job!
Awe Vin, THOSE engines ARE expensive, But for the length of time you had it running including a couple of revs, I’m pretty confident that you didn’t do any SERIOUS engine damage, I wouldn’t be TOO surprised if THAT was the reason it shut down on ya awhile back...... Maybe that engine management system has an interlock in it to PREVENT any kind of engine damage.... You are DEFINITELY getting closer to the finished product!!!!!!👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
As always the professionalism is exceptional. Please upgrade your protective gear for spray painting. Dont wait till your 72 to find out you needed to protect yourself from harm.
It happens to the best, won't be you last over-service. You found the problem and corrected it. That's what counts. Keep doing what you do. You never stop learning.
Wow I'm glad you caught that before you burned up the rings and pistons. You saved yourself alot of money. Keep up the great work on your videos and God Bless.
I agree.. it does look 100x better white. I would have metallic blacked the trim pieces.. reason is people would have been turning heads when the sun hit it. Car is goon be a stand out. Be proud... great job
I knew that smokin was a dry sump issue, the old "60s" BSA/ Triumph motorcycles were dry sump & would do that if they sat for a while without being run, oil back drains into crank area leaving tank dry on start up, no oil for pump & rod would find is way out the case through hole it made. At least you had enough (too much) oil so no starvation, thats a finicky machine you got there gotta be careful with it. Great job on that thing gonna give lots of enjoyment. Have fun with it but not too much, it will prob outrun the stopping abilty, just slide, so beeeee careful.
Lucky you!! I was certain that engine had some serious issues with all that smoke. Who'd have thought it was too much oil? Can't wait to see it on the street!!
Super happy it quit smoking. VERY happy for you!!! Those tips looks sick on that exhaust. I want this project to be done so I can see it on the road, but I don’t want it to end because I have enjoyed the whole journey.
for the future...let's say the engine holds 12 quarts...you add 9 quarts, start it up, get it fully warm than check the oil and add more as needed till you get to the factory spec. On dry sump motors, most require you to check the oil when fully warm and idling.
I too am no mechanic. I am not sure what you meant by dry sump. Obviously you need oil in the pan, but did the over fill cause it to migrate into the cylinders? Thankfully you had multiple points other than the oil pan to drain it all down. Great diagnosis and job.
I still can’t believe how far this mclaren project has come from stripping everything off the original car and the reinstalling everything back on the donor tub, wow you must be so happy having the mclaren, nice work bro.👍👊🤘🔥
I know i sound like a broken record but PLEASE, take the time to torque down all the bolts and nuts that hold the front and rear subframes and all the suspension points, this is a 200mph+ car and that stuff is VERY important

I love how vTuned gets a bit more distinguished in his paint videos :) (Hi Paul!) I didn't get the title until you started pulling hoses and showing where oil had made its way into... yikes
You need to check the oil level via the dash or software. E.g. usually on a dry sump system you fill to spec amount as you did however the next crucial step is get it up to operating temp then switch off let it sit for 10mins and check oil level via software. Mclaren may have its own process so look into it!
