This song struck me as a widow. It took me almost 3 years to go eat in a restaurant by myself. The first time I looked up, haven't even ordered yet, a guy is staring at me from across the room. It took everything I had to stay.I tried not to look up often, but there he was, looking and smiling every time. It was just me and the thoughts of this is the way it's going to be from now on....memories are bittersweet.
Been one of my favorites for decades now. Love both Whitley's version and Tritt's version. Seen Whitley perform it in concert, just months before he died. And then Travis Tritt's version came out as I was going through a divorce. Although... the lyrics didn't hit me because of thoughts of my ex-wife. Instead, the lyrics always made/make me think of my high school sweetheart, who I let slip away.
Not shocked at all this a good song. I felt this way when the love of my life left me. Like you mentioned others have gone through something like this before and we have some country music and help us through and speak the words that we would like to say but hard to say at the time.
Don thank you for your time, Keith was and still is the real deal his music never shocks me how amazing his stories and voice still hit you right in the gut!
Good Sunday Morning Don, I am familiar w/this song through Travis Tritt who had a pretty big hit with it in the mid-90's. Until today always thought Travis wrote it but knew this version would have predated Travis's. So I looked it up and it was written by Keith Stegall. Just tremendous lyricism then you throw in either Keith's or Travis's voice and you got a masterpiece. Tremendous request Randy, great reaction/rating Don. I hope all have a peaceful Sunday.---#UTRCM
Like Mike I remember Travis Tritt's version, but I really love Keith's voice in general, and especially on this track. It is brilliantly composed as well, with the steel especially making your heart ache. What a great request Randy and another wonderful reaction Don. I agree completely with 9.8 (although it would be a minimum, I'd have been happy with 9.9 or 10 as well!). Thanks again!
Growing up about 30 minutes from Keith’s hometown of Sandy Hook, Ky his shadow looms large. He is a hero to so many of us, I know personally he’s one of the reasons I picked up a guitar and try to sing. This fall he’ll be inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame. Not bad for a kid from Eastern Kentucky.
I love Keith Whitley, and at first I thought this was a Keith song I hadn't ever heard before when I saw the title, however with the first 3 cords, I realized it was one of "those" Keith songs that I can't seem to stand to listen to because they hit too close to home. It is a great song, just gets me too much in the feels, but I still gave you a like.
Keith, man just kill's you with his voice and of course the song was a great song, he was just amazing, I would like to request a Keith Whitley, song with Lorrie Morgan, the song is "TILL A TEAR BECOMES A ROSE" Thank You.
@First Last I may do you one better if I can make it happen in a couple of weeks when I’m visiting my buddy who played bass for Jerry. We’ll see if it all lines up.

Kieth had the ability to make you believe what he's singing about. Another great reaction Don
You should do his cover of “I never go around mirrors.” My God he could sing. RIP Kentucky Bluebird. ❤️

Keith Whitley had so many good songs. He had the looks, the talent, and the tragedy that makes him still relevant.
Awesome song and reaction. I’ve been fond of this one forever.
Thank you for reacting!
Great reaction, Don. You are right. For those who have been through a tough time, this hits home.

Thank you! I was trying to remember whose cover of this song I knew. But I couldn't come up with the name.

9.8 is fitting. Keith Whitley is the king of describing how if feels to loose your woman

Josh Ward did a great version of this song too, definitely worth a listen.

Travis tritt did an excellent version of this song also
You should check out his song I Get The Picture one word AMAZING
Would you consider listening to Thirty-nine and Holding by Jerry Lee Lewis.

MontgomeryGentry " Twenty Years Ago "
Travis Tritt did one hell of a cover of this I’m a huge Keith fan but I think Travis done this one better
No way brother!! You just can’t beat Keith.
@@jdgreen7771 in most cases you are right but this song Travis killed it
Keith’s cut is miles better than Travis’.
@@jacobcarlson8799 not even close
Pretty sad to hear this song knowing he died the same year he recorded it
Nice reaction! Great songwriting! Travis Tritt's version is so much better though that this was actually sort of difficult to listen to.
Yikes. I feel the exact opposite. I honestly can’t stand Travis Tritt’s cut. Keith’s version cannot be topped.
