    Guess the bottom line is everybody makes a decent subcompact no matter which brand you choose as long as it gets the jobs done for whatever purpose you use it for.thats my view.

    I'll first say that I enjoy most of your videos...lots of useful information. Having shopped most of the major brands, I generally agreed with your assessment in this video. But, don't think it wasn't blatantly obvious what you were doing when you started the Mahindra...trying to make it look hard starting by not allowing the glow plugs to heat up first.

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I'm not that kniving. It was summer time when I made this video. No glow plugs should have been needed.

    One more point. Your comments at the end were spot on the quality of the dealership should factor strongly into the buying decision. But make the tractor do some work. Lift a bucket full of sand then crank the wheel at the same time. Notice the vibration of the machine and ergonomics. Mahindra makes a great spec sheet but it does not translate into real world performance. Having sold both Kubota and (now) John Deere and having run all three the Mahindra is clearly in last place

    I believe this was a pretty fair comparison I really like kubota but I recently traded in my kubota for a new J.D. I like the green tractor but my kubota was 30 year old 4x4 and been a good one in its day. John Deere was 45 minutes closer to my house, and had really good incentives on their 2017 tractor's. Would I own another kubota? Yes,absolutely. 👍👍👍👍👍

  • @mothman-jz8ug

    If I were seeking a fair comparison between Kubota and any other make, I would go to a Kubota dealer for it. Just like when I bought my truck: I was wondering if Dodge Ram or a Ford would be better. I went to a Ram dealer for a comparison, and am I glad I did! I was told that Ram was MUCH better. Currently, I need new sneakers, so I'll have to write to Nike and ask if Nike or Reebock would be the better choice.
    WAKE UP PEOPLE: THESE ARE KUBOTA ADS!

    My question, is the 5500 series still made by them? I know that the 5500s were, even the engine is a distant successor to an international engine used in their first tractors. I feel like mentioning that the first Mahindra tractor was an International.

    I have two John Deere tractors and love them both except for the battery access, and the location of the fuel tank. The Kubota have the same problem with the fuel tank location and I don't know about the battery access on them. My brother just purchased a new Mahindra tractor and I don't know much about it except for a few messages from people who owned them and had problems they wished the company had addressed previously. From all I have heard about Kubota tractors the owners loved them, with a few not liking the pedal on them.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery access on the BX series is very simple, unscrew a knob, and remove the lower dash screen cover. Fuel access is on the right rear fender...can't be any easier for accessing either. The treadle pedal if you have owned a lawn/garden tractor with a hydrostatic transmission is pretty similar except for a few green tractors. I don't mind it at all, far less apt to hit the wrong pedal by having them placed separately than side by side. The only thing I wish I would have got on my Kubota BX2680 is the bucket level indicator rod, its kind of hard to tell when the bucket is low or on the ground if its level or not. I also wish I would have gotten the 3rd function kit, although I currently have no use for it, it would have been better if I could have had it installed when I bought it.

      LMAO! If you were deciding between a Ram pickup and a Ford, would you ask the Ford dealer to compare for you? Come on, think about it: How often does he say, "Oh brand X is better than Kubota"? (I'm gonna contact Nike and see if they think Reebok or Nike shoes would be a better choice for me. DOES THAT MAKE SENSE???)

    Hey Neil, I think this was a great video. Ya there were negatives about the Mahindra you pointed out but I think the tractor itself is the cause of this. I agree that this is an odd sized tractor and when placed next the the B-series it really does look big. But I think you did a great job and made it as fair as you could!!!

    • @Natelaf
      @Natelaf 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I had a 2017 Yanmar YT235C, it was a nice machine when I got it 8 months ago. Then things went wrong, parts are simply non existent, it took months to get parts that were missing when I bought it. The AC is so bad that on a 80 degree day with the ac on full blast, it’s cooler with the window open. Then the loader valve destroyed itself and would do whatever it liked. Last I was mowing and a linkage simply fell off the tractor and ripped off the loader valve that was just replaced two weeks prior. The loader valve has cables between the valve and the stick, similar to bike brake cables, they freeze and are not protected. The 3pt hitch also is operated by a cable. The rear hydraulic valves are $1100. The seat is completely fixed, no suspension. Running over a caterpillar will send you into the roof of the cab. With 250 hours on the Yanmar the loader was starting to get loose and the hydrostatic was slowing down. It wouldn’t even lift a full bucket of dirt from day one. I had enough of the Yanmar 8 months after buying it and just traded for a L6060, world of difference.

  • @chrislee9767
    @chrislee9767 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Sorry, was signed into wrong account. The B7100 was offered with a FEL originally but I didn't need one then. Still runs great but finding a B1630 (I think) loader through the dealer has been more aggravating than successful.
    Still original mower deck and don't really want to try an aftermarket "should work" model. I just prefer keeping brand parts original

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      So if you have the original B7100 (round headlights) the loader would not be available. This tractor is 40 years old now, and adding a loader would not be a smart choice. The tractor lacks power steering, and the loader itself would cost more than the entire tractor is worth. You could trade that tractor on a used BX-series for the same amount of cash out and have a more modern and capable machine.
      Some really smart person decided to reuse the model B7100 and it was recycled in the 90's. These have rectangular headlights and you would be able to get a loader for that.

    • @chrislee9767
      @chrislee9767 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      '93 B7100hst - yep, it's older but works great. My dealer says no loader is available from Kubota for it. I'm not looking to lift anything more than 200 lbs of feed and muck out some stalls.

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      so if you have a '93 model, you have the new version tractor. There where two model loaders that would fit, B1640A and LA300. The 'LA' series loaders continued production. When the last digit changes in the loader model that normally denotes some kind of basic backward compatibility. You would find that an LA301 or LA302 are probably a drop on fit (or very close) for your tractor.
      I'd still throw the same caution though. Spending significant money on a 25 year old tractor may not be smart. You would get a really fair trade value for that machine, plus what a loader will cost you is plenty of a budget for many newer alternatives.

    Always Bias towards Kubota, why do you compare anyway (fair? LOL). There is something called Power to Weight ratio.... just for your knowledge enhancement

    • @THEjasonTDI
      @THEjasonTDI 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      So what's YOUR definition of power to weight? You think more weight is better in all situations? It's amore about build quality, reliability, parts support, resale, ease of service etc.

    • @jhomrich89
      @jhomrich89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      you're always going to get a little bit of that with a vendor of a particular piece of equipment however though he did do a much better than other guys who I see flat out slam the competition in their videos

    • @jhomrich89
      @jhomrich89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Jason this is true to an extent you'll run out of weight long before horsepower in any situation weight can be overcome by front weights or beet juice. A lot of the guys who buy these subcompacts this is their first machine, likely have 2-5 acres are sick of wearing out cheap big box store machines and want something better, most likely they will using it as a lawnmower and perhaps a tiller and snowblower so all that extra weight isn't needed but can be overcome easily when it is. As Neil pointed out whatever brand you go with visit the dealer, check their parts warehouse ask how soon they can typically get parts, and another thing he didn't mention talk to the technicians and ask them what are the most common failures on that machine you're looking at and if those failures are fairly easy to fix, the service guys are likely to be more honest with you than any salesman they don't make their living trying to get you to buy something

      Arjuna well I have my grandfathers Kubota B 6000 little two cylinder diesel 4 wheel drive it is built like a Sherman tank actually better than that it’s probably built more like a royal king tiger tank,,,, I’m gonna have to have the whole thing rebuilt as this has been in my family now since grandpa bought it new I believe back in 77 or 76 I can’t remember it was one of those two years I’m going to have it rebuilt by the time I’m done rebuilding it I could probably buy an BX 25 I may do that later on anyway I don’t know yet for sure,,,however Kubota builds pretty darn good tractors after I’m done with the rebuild on my B 6000 I’ll never have to do another thing to it hardly just routine maintenance...

  • @McScott76
    @McScott76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Weight matters on a tractor with a loader, unless you like doing "tricks" with your tractor while you're in the middle of moving a heavy load.

    • @MessicksEquip
      @MessicksEquip  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      weight is far less important than balance for loader work. If that weight is in the front axles or engine for example, its doing no good keeping your rear end planted on the ground.

    • @McScott76
      @McScott76 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MessicksEquip Gotcha. I guess I had read somewhere that an advantage of the Mahindras was that they have heavier steel and cast iron in the rear end, so that weight acts as a natural counter weight to the loader (I.e, requiring less ballast than competitors). Isn’t anything past the front axle counterbalancing the loader? Maybe I was misinformed.
      By the way, here’s an idea for a future video. Line up all the top selling subcompacts with loaders fully extended and add weight to the buckets until the rear wheels begin to lift. That would demonstrate a real world comparison of actual lift capacity without factoring in additional ballast.

      @MessicksEquip  7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      #1 seller should have about a dozen asterisks after it. They are the number one seller given that India, China, etc are huge rural economies and massive markets for tractors. That does not mean, that said tractors meet American expectations for quality, reliability, ergonomics, etc. Mahindra also does not manufacturer many of the tractors they sell. As I understand, its true that they are.. but not quite sure that's relevant..?

  • @FrancisRoyCA
    @FrancisRoyCA 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you suggest a subcompact tractor that is physically smaller than the BX series? I still want a PTO, 3 point hitch and hydraulics, but even the BX 80 is too large for my needs. I recall seeing a much earlier version of a Kubota that was about the size of a riding lawnmower. This is the sort of thing that I'm looking for. I'd mainly use it for minor landscaping, mowing the lawn, dragging a leaf vacuum trailer, snow blowing, dragging a cart full of winter wood around and to mix compost.

    I find it interesting that you don't have any comparison videos between the BX series and the Emax20 or 22. I've looked into both and am strongly considering trading my Kubota for one. They are much more refined than this antiquated model you 'reviewed'. If you do, I think you'll find that Kubota doesn't have a leg to stand on, although I'm certain you won't mention it. The model that replaces this has skid steer coupler, 2 tilt cylinders instead of 1 on Tx-25 loader.. and tons more items that I can see different. After looking at new Mahindra's on the lot, especially the smallest eMax (eMax 20S HST) I would not want to see what it looks like in 5 years. ALL of the steel that was painted black was rusting, bolts, connectors, etc...the red painted steel was fading already. I checked the two eMax 20S on the grounds and both were the same. Another very scary thing was the hydraulic crimps/connectors were oxidizing - that's not good. Now as I moved up to the eMax 26XLT HST there was NO oxidation on the hydraulic crimps/connectors but the steel was still rusting. Check for yourself - even undr the seat all the bolts and brackets were rusted on NEW machines. I've looked at 10 year old Deere's that looked better than a new Mahindra. Ditto on the Kubota - they just seem to wear better. Trust me, I wanted to believe considering the 7 year/3000 hour powertrain warranty but after doing in depth walk arounds the eMax20s is off the list. The 26XLT is still hanging on by a thread...

    Kubota is a well built tractor and is all Kubota, no China shit here, I had a bx2350 and it was trouble free, wish it had the side by side pedals and a tilt wheel, my only complaints about it that I can think of.

    Mahindra is the Hyundai of the tractor world.
    I learned the hard way in both cases.
    We run nothing but Kubota .
    Period.

      this model was end of the line, the next year or so the loader came with skid steer coupler and two tilt cylinders rather than the one this one had... Yea this video is 3 years old, but the model is now highly updated with the times...
