I actually have said "I have nothing to complain about." My very hardest day in didactic or clinic has been a walk in the park compared to my easiest day deployed to Baghdad, Iraq.
I never realized society had a word for this. Wow, I have been a gunner all of this time and never even knew it! I see it as a fantastic personality trait, as long as compassion is not compromised to get ahead.
crazy student who tries too hard in an attempt to get the best possible grades. The problem is it involves a ton of sucking up and stressing yourself out. It is not a good thing.
I think there's also an element of being super-competitive/trying to advance yourself at other students' expense. Just trying your hardest isn't in itself being a gunner (at least, in my understanding).
I'm going to save this in a playlist and wait until I understand the jokes to watch it again. Since I'm not in Med school, that should happen in about....never.
My stomach hurts from laughing so hard! I'm out of breathe! LoLoLoLoL. Oh man, you said "pre-med students" can relate to this? Let me catch my breathe here. I'm in tears right now. Then you said, a "maybe a fourth" of this applies? Haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahahahhahahahahahahahahah... ..Stop it! I can't breathe. You're dead serious too? Muahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha This is too much.
oooohh... I always thought they said "gonners"! Meaning: This student is so bad he'll be gone soon...isn't gonner also an expression for dead people, I thought it fit somehow for these situations as well
Heh. The term's meaning has changed over time but generally it's med school slang for those very competitive, very high-achieving students who aren't really very interested in working well with the other med students. They tend to be very intelligent and do well on their boards but often don't have very good bedside manners. At best they are snarky and try to beat their classmates to the punch at everything to make themselves look better (e.g. classically sitting up front so they'll be noticed and picking up all the patients and leaving few for the other students), at worst they actively go out and sabotage/undermine their classmates. It's a pretty grave insult to call a med student this if you're serious about it :)
"Biochemistry was really essential to my education." Yea, I can relate. Oh, can I relate.
Lol damn..I love biochem and I want to study that when I get to university
