    Great video and very well paced. Keep up the great work. I still cannot justify paying over $100 for a DAC. The Fiio BTR5 does look very cool and I'm sure it is high quality but the price tag is overboard. When I listen to lossless via Apple Music on my Mac or iPhone, I am still using the $9 Apple lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter. It features a built-in DAC and supports up to 24/48. IMO, it is the most underrated and budget friendly DAC out there for casual listeners.

      if you're talking about using the headphone dongle(be it lighting or usb c to 3.5mm) unfortunately that cannot do high res lossless. it tops out at 24 bit 48khz if i remember correctly, which is still very high. if you want higher than that you can get a usb c dac. the ones in this video would work great.

    Do you have any experience with the DAC in the standard M1 13 inch macbook air and pro? If so, are they any good?

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I used a MacBook Air M1 for several months and the DAC/amp used for the headphone jack sounds really good! It supports up to 96khz and sounds clean. I'd say the audio profile is very similar to the 14 inch MBP M1 Pro.

    I have a good built-in DAC in my NAD c388 integrated Amp. What's the best (cleanest) HiFi solution to get music on my Mac Mini M1 to my Stereo system?
    I want a direct digital signal to the NAD's DAC unit without having to convert and reconvert the digital music files on my Mac on the signal path to the NAD Amp.
    Edit: In other words, I want to bypass the Mac's internal DAC and possibly all other DACs on the signal path to my NAD stereo DAC. A pure unaltered digital signal, if you will.

      Try a different usb-c cable. Some cables are just meant for charging, where other ones charge and allow data pass through.

    I own an xDuoo DAC and amp. They use Qualcomm codecs such as aptX .
    They’ve developed a Bluetooth 5.3 transmitter MX-01.
    I was only able to get aptX until this. I finally got aptX LL. I also hit 48KHz.
    It’s not Apple Lossless but it’s their Qualcomm form of Bluetooth lossless.

    It doesn't seem possible for an MP3 converting to Wav to add missing information. Do you know if it can?
    I have some old MP3's and Apple Music allows me to convert to wave but this must be for compatibility to software / programs. I can't imagine that all the information is there to uncompress when it doesn't take up the space of a full wav file.

    • @sennasenna6023
      @sennasenna6023 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      when converting an mp3 to a wav, no, it will not have true lossless quality. it will be uncompressed, but all the quality that was lost when initially compressing the file is gone forever.

      The highest it will go is 24-bit/192khz

  • @Icelotion
    @Icelotion 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The problem with your midi settings for the Mac is that all your music from apple will now be upsampled to 32 bit 384khz. Even when you play a lower quality song. Unlike the iPhone and iPad the Mac doesn't support auto switching. This way you are not getting the highest quality audio. Every time you play a song you should change the midi settings to match that song to get the highest audio quality. That sucks and Apple should fix this with an update.

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point! Hopefully Apple updates macOS to enable auto-switching like on iOS. I prefer the iOS/iPadOS Music experience way more than on Mac.

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sound enhancer adds compression and other audio effects to the music, so you're hearing a synthetic, beefed up, louder version of it. I prefer to leave it off though because it makes music sound too over-compressed and unnatural to me. I'd rather hear the music unfiltered, the way the artist intended.

    • @sennasenna6023

    Does Lossless Audio also work via USB-C headphones? Since the iOS devices lack a Headphone-jack

    • @b3naqua
      @b3naqua  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It does, if your headphones contain an internal DAC that supports higher resolution audio. For example, the Apple usb-c EarPods have a built-in DAC that supports 24/48 lossless. Plug it in to your iOS device, enable lossless audio in Music settings, and you're good to go!
