  • I received and unboxed one of my Nature Reliance Shemanese knives today. Made by LT Wright. The fit and finish is excellent.

Good what a beautiful blade! I want one! Thx for sharing!

I’ve got the LTW GNS in AEBL. If you scrape much with that spine, especially fire steels you’ll be re-sharpening it as much as the main edge. My 3v GNS holds that burr on the the spine a bit better. It would be interesting to see how that AEB-L holds up on a larger knife.

I have no experience with LTWK, but I have a custom 10" chopper in AEB-L at 62 HRC and it's one of my favorite knives.
I can go months at a time with only quick touchups on a strop. One time I hit a nasty knot in a log and I thought for sure it destroyed the edge, but it did zero damage at all. Still shaved arm hair.
That probably has no relevance whatsoever in relation to the performance of this specific knife, just want to point out that it has great potential in big knives.

I’ve been hearing AEB-L has great potential for larger knives...

I probably won't scrape a fire steel a whole lot, but may scrape wood or other stuff. As I said in the video, I've never tried AEBL. I have plenty of 3V, so maybe I can compare as time goes on.

They don’t sharpen that part of the spine so it won’t be cutting into your thumb

That's fine, but the sharpened part starts at about a 45 degree angle instead of being square with the side of the blade. It won't hinder the function of the knife at all, but I don't see why anyone would put in the time to make a perfect knife and then not make this square. That being said, it is one of my favorite knives and I use it all the time. I can fix the spine myself, and probably will eventually.

I did tell you that you'd not be disappointed!
It's too bad that the spine isn't exactly where you'd like it. All mine are perfect. I agree that it is a small thing. The plunge lines and edge need to be even, in my books. I coild easily live with that spine as is.
It looks like a really great knife. I hope you get lots of work and enjoyment from it.
Congratulations on your first LT. I bet it's not your last!

I am not disappointed at all. That is really more of a cosmetic thing that will not affect the performance at all. All the grinds and plunge lines, etc. are perfect. I haven't done much with it so far, but this knife is looking like it could be one of my favorite big knives.

I ordered one of these in that exact configuration last week, and it is currently in limbo due to the incompetence of the Post Office. Hopefully it turns up, as I'd like to experince for myself many of the qualities you've mentioned about ergonomics and usability.
I have other blades by LT in AEB-L and it is a fantastic steel. It sharpens great, really holds an edge, and is very tough. I've got high hopes for this blade.
The knife is advertised as coming with access to special videos concerning its usage and calabilities. I just wanted to ask if you did indeed get access to those?

I like AEB L steel, and I don't think you will be disappointed in your knife. All of my LT Wright stuff is good.
I did get access to the videos, but I ended up having to call Nature Reliance to remind them to give me access. Maybe the process is more streamlined now, but if not, they are easy to deal with to get that set up.
Thanks for watching, and enjoy your knives.
