If only they made new releases with the same level of quality...these old gems are like model car quality and detail, but with all the working functionality you could ask for. Ah...one can only dream.
My first RC when I was a kid was Rough Rider then this Hilux. Back in those days this is the king of RC with 3 speeds gear box and ESC which never have seen before during the 80s.
Original Hilux RA1028 has either Mabuchi RS-540 (white plastic endbell) or Mabuchi RS-540S (black plastic endbell). The "re-release" Hilux (which IMHO is almost nothing of the kind because of e.g. it's plastic gearbox) has Mabuchi RS-540SH (metal endbell). The Blazing Blazer had same as RA1028. The Bruiser and Mountaineer had Mabuchi RS-750SH. Cheers, Alistair G.
Because inflation. If manufacturers want keep prices relatively down, they must something sacrife. TRX4/6 are best actuall chassis on market. You can build your own hard body on it, and it will look better than this 40years old. Only need remember trx4 is 1:10 scale for trucks. For 1:10 hilux are axles too wide.
I have hired this man to narrate my life in real time.
I just want to drink with him.
we need to remember where the hobby started to enjoy where it is
Had to wait 40yrs to afford one always wanted a tamiya hilux as a kid.
lovely, fond memories of standing in hamleys toy shop, watching this vid same years back.
OMG hooking up a pack of them and towing an actual Toyota truck! 🤣Gotta love that.
Now i know what the early 80s adult film musicians did in their down time !!
RIP Beaties.

What about build it? Components are no problem. And it can look more realistic, with better driving properties.
for those who also like the music in this video, the song is called Golf Open from Janko Nilovic

This one can switch gears while in motion and my TRX4 or SCX10.3 will fail if did so, evolution at it's finest :)

Great work my freind keep on trucking great rigs
Great to see beginning of expedition trucks.
What a shame nowadays, when a lot of people are happy with drive only poor lexan.
Just realised when the 3 were driving in a row it was the same colours as the minis from the Italian job, haha
The only thing I hated about that truck is Tamiya sticking the switch smack dab in the middle of the bed 😝
WHAT IS GOING ON NOWA DAYS? i just got the traxxas trx4 bronco and its not as awesome as this toyota.. blast!

Awsom ❤
These old remote cars have almost the same run time as the new ev pickup trucks 🛻
does the front right wheel lock up at 1:06 afte rhe sais years of rugged use?
I still own a set of tires for one of these!
Do you still have the tyers
And scale rc is cool again...
For those who don’t know this rc truck cost about $1500 on eBay in 2022.
It cost around AUD $700 the truck itself excluding radio, servos and battery back in the 80s,
now aday one truck would pull that car lik the traxxas summit wouldjust pull it like nothing was there
I skimmed through this and it took me way too long to realize I wasn't looking at a real truck.
Toyota Hilux i wszystko jasne
4000 mah? Really?
Yes, 6v NiCad 4000mah from Tamiya.
