Fuaga 6’6”, Saldivari 6’ 6”, Penning 6’ 7”. These guys are young and huge! Fuaga was the best run blocker in the draft coming from a zone run scheme and Penning had the best run blocking grade in his rookie preseason. Last season we saw Penning moving defenders out of the play while run blocking. His pass blocking has only been the issue. The new zone run scheme will suit both them well as it plays toward their strengths. Their play styles complement each other as they block until the whistle and bring guys to the ground. We will have a young, great, big, nasty offensive line for years!
I disagree that the Saints wouldn't have signed up the veteran guards as insurance / backups/ swing lineman..., the staff needs to give the young bucks every chance to solidify as a unit
Coaches were trash and gave up on him when they were trying to keep their jobs. They drafted a project and gave up on it. Line coach this year is actually good so I am hopeful.
I know it’s easy to second-guess after the fact but I hated them drafting Penning. I don’t like risky small school first round picks in the first round (Marcus Davenport). But I will agree with you that he had a solid game before they benched him, I was a little confused by that.
i still think Penning can be a solid O-lineman, probably a guard, i wouldn't get too excited about him as a tackle because of his OTAs only because his OTAs last year were incredible, and they were ready to sing his praises.. then week 1 through 4 happened
70 will get the job done...he's gonna get dialed in & will be a beast...hope he pisses the defense off again like his rookie camp...defense doesn't like it take a seat...next up...win now
Saints signed 3 free agent veteran linemen, during the offseason, and along with the 2 Rookie OL Draft picks, and the other veterans, already in the roster, it should be enough. That should all make for some very competitive camp battles, and every spot on the OL, will have to be EARNED! Hopefully, the level of competitiveness will raise the level of play, and set a new standard, and a new ATTITUDE, that ideally, will be contagious, and carry over throughout the rest of the offense & on both sides of the ball. it also seems like the coaching staff might be sending out a message, to the holdover vets, that the position battles are their's to lose, which both makes the incoming free agents earn those positions (but also sends a positive mssg, to last yr's starters, that the coaching staff still has confidence in them & doesn't just hand the jobs to the incoming free agents. And the emphasis on versatility (particularly, with the younger players on the OL - by bringing in Veteran Free Agents, all 3 of whom play multiple positions, on the line) sends the mssg, and raises the bar, that if u want to make this team, you've got to contribute in whatever way the team & O-line needs u to, and be willing to do what the coaches ask of you.
I feel like people are being too hard on Penning. Lets see how he perform this year. Hurt his rookie year, struggled last year at times, this year first time being fully healthy.
Something that doesn't get discussed is that Allen made it clear he was not ok with Penning's nasty demeanor. And then people wonder why when he was healthy he seemed hesitant and lacked a first step and seemed to get pushed around. Why? Because his boss, the head coach, tried to change him and his playstyle. Instead of going out there and playing his game, he was trying to be someone he isn't. Haslett did that same crap with Deuce by asking him to gain weight and be a bruiser. If Penning wants to be a mean, nasty, monstrous player on the field, let him. As long as he isn't making the wrong kind of headlines for being mean and nasty off the field, let him be a monster on it. Again, Allen is a superb DC but he has made very questionable decisions as a HC. Penning is a shining example of this.
Marrone was a bum! Y’all fought me when I said this yrs ago saying he was one of the best Oline coaches. HE WAS NOT! Benton is much better and Kubiak ahead of that will work wonders for Penning and Fuaga. My worries are Saldiveri and Ruiz being solid, mainly Saldiveri
I knew Trevor wasn’t going to make out cause he use to hold a lot in college, check his highlights/games. You take that away and not only that you take his grabs away in the NFL what do you have??? Not so good of a tackle. He was grabbing in all those training camps, college scout camps too. Don’t check me, check the tape.

The O-line is going to be the key
Penning is a good player ! Morrow didn’t have the patience to Coach him up ! With the new staff he has a fresh start.
Prove that
Thanks for the optimism Matt
The staff let Penning down, he arguably had his best game before being benched. This fan wants answers.

So, it's on the Coaches?

@MosheGoldbergTheKing Why did Ramczyk, Ruiz & Hurst play so well?
We had dog shit coaches. It’s unfortunate

he just needs reps even if he fails
@@LilRedRasta i hope he figures it out
They still would’ve signed the veteran players because either way you still gotta have backups.
12:13 that is the new NFL. Skill guys up high and figure out the line.
70 will get the job done...he's gonna get dialed in & will be a beast...hope he pisses the defense off again like his rookie camp...defense doesn't like it take a seat...next up...win now
Trent was drafted by DC
Lookout for that kid from Tulane
Kam wire🗣️
Im ecited to see this run scheme

You also have to factor in injuries, we have a ton of injuries on the O line every year. So you need depth!
Don't give up on Trevor just yet

Matty is a good personality. Heard Chicago is interested in trading for Payton Turner
For a bag of lays?

the Saints should keep Charles Leno, Jr. on speed dial . . . . just in case . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
So these two guys who couldn't sniff a starting job last season are the new rocks?....I am not buying it.
I think Saldeveri might need another year and Lucas Patrick will take that spot at LG
Penning had no coaches before benton who is now the offensive line coach
Penning is the poster boy looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.
Funny 😅

Doug Marrone was awful and you could tell because he just had a first round pick sitting on the bench for an entire year
Penning isn't a natural left tackle?
OFFENSIVE LINE!!!!!!!!!!
Reality, The Saints blew it in drafting Penning
Matt you had no depth so that is why they signed these other guys you still are cluless
Fuaga Matt, FUAGA
Matt is pronouncing Fuaga correctly. Taliese Fuaga has said “Fu-Ang-a” is the correct pronunciation.
