Thanks for this. Using the ZPT sleeper Sydney / Melbourne return and Sydney / Byron Bay return in June. Found this really informative and helpful. Have read nightmare reviews so it was reassuring. Will be trying to get a bottom bunk though, I'd be petrified about falling out. Surprised there are no safety rails.
I travelled the other way in May, and the XPT wasn't bad, but it was definitely a step down from the glory days of the Southern Aurora back in the 70s and 80s, for one main reason: the shared bathroom! Way back then, each dual compartment had its own bathroom and shower; none of this having to go next door IF it was free unless you were in a single compartment. From unreliable memory, the compartment was bigger, too. The journey was okay, but I'd think twice before doing it again. Overall, the XPT is not as good as what it replaced.
I’ve thought about giving this a go in the not-so distant future. I’m a bad flyer (aviation trauma from when I was younger), so I’ve always been intrigued by the over night trains in Aus. My wife and I had a cabin on a a few trains around the states and I never slept better. Looks a bit out dated but it’s only for 10 hours, easily dealt with. Nice video mates, well done
40 or so years ago, we twice travelled from Adelaide to Sydney in the same style of carriage. Our room was very comfortable, and we had our own shower and wc. The ride was pretty smooth, the food high quality if not haute cuisine. The only problem was the speed - or more accurately the lack of it.
Immediate subscribe since we share a name. Nice to see another Chris Mills in the wild. 😄.. It sounded like the A/C wasn't working correctly in your compartment, worth reporting since these are 40+ year old trains and things can and will break down.
did you find the ride bumpy? they have had problems for years especially between albury and the outskirts of melbourne but this is one of the newer ones i found on yt
I travelled once on the XPT a few years ago. I'm surprised the thing is still running. It's so old now. I used to put my Grandfather on the XPT to travel to Sydney and that was back in the early 1980's. The NSW Government promised election after election for the past 30 years that they would replace it. Try travelling on the Qld tilt train. It's way better than the XPT.

A petiton should be made to put upgraded Sleepers on ALL the new XPTs.

@Sniffy1975 A rare sighting haha! Would be worth reporting, but these trains will soon be retired
3 seats but 2 beds? Is is possible to book one of these cabins for a family of 3 (2 adults and a 5 yo)?
@Subh8081 I think that is possible, but definitely give them a call and check
Better off jumping on a plane and be in Melbourne or Sydney in about and hour. Cheaper also.
Do they have charger bays to charge your phone
@chantayasimpson2197 From memory, they had at least one plug
The X in XPT stands for express - but don't be deceived. The train is far from express by any standard.
did you find the ride bumpy? they have had problems for years especially between albury and the outskirts of melbourne but this is one of the newer ones i found on yt
@Roadrunnerz45 Some parts were a little bumpy, but overall it wasn't too bad. Managed to get a decent enough sleep.

@@robertgarland9342 The tilt train is next on the list!
I’m with you. Come to Victoria our trains are embarrassing. N class locos very ancient rolling stock. Slow as buggery. A complete joke
🔥🔥🔥
Is that price for both of you or per person? Thank you!
That is the price per person
@@christophermills99 thank you so much!
