While Dr. Hu's technical and business insights are valuable, this interview sidesteps a crucial dimension of running a US-based battery/AI company as a Chinese founder in 2024. The EV battery sector sits at the intersection of US-China strategic competition, yet there's no discussion of how SES AI navigates complex geopolitical dynamics, security scrutiny, or cross-border challenges. This omission feels particularly striking given the company operates in two highly sensitive domains - advanced battery technology and AI computing infrastructure. A more candid conversation about these realities would have provided invaluable perspective for other international founders in strategic tech sectors, while acknowledging the full scope of challenges in building a NYSE-listed battery company during an era of intensifying tech competition between the US and China.
I’m sure Hu is acutely aware of the geopolitics. I’m also confident he has strategies in place to respond to various scenarios. But it is a shame he is not more transparent and sharing at least his philosophy if not the details of his strategies.
hes doing hard thing and generating no revenue while at it, Dr.Hu started his company in 2012 and 12 years later has no revenue despite his company being valued at almost 1billion
Sodium ion is part of the future for ev because lithium ion bleeds energy when it is too cold or hot. For data center, the weight of sodium ion battery isn't a weakness anymore
Personally I would like to see standardised connectors and protocols as the future so different chemistrys/battery types can be swapped in without the need of protocol convertors and plug adaptors.
It does take a different type of person to be an entrepreneur and espeically one that actually dream about flying cars. Nothing is certain in this world. likley most things challenging is against the odds so i dont feel sorry for but wish him for the best. Atleast there is someone daring to walk into the stadium and compete.
Flying cars will probably not be a thing, too much danger. They may be relegated to luxury. On the other hand, I think hover crafts make more sense, as they pose less of a danger to the masses and infrastructure.
It's amazing how simple it is to understand his story, but the lessons that this man has seen and learned is quite valuable 👍.
Thank you EO.

I don't know what you just said, but it sounded smart as shit.... Hold this like.

I let my family go, i let my country go. What else to let to go?
Has this battery been mass-produced?

I feel sorry for him. The Chinese battery behemoths CATL and BYD are such a beast in new battery chemistry. Sodium-ion is the future.

Don’t know Bowen has a battery side project

I think better title is do things of value. Just because it's hard, it doesn't mean it's valuable 🤷♂️

美国工人的吸毒问题非常严重。这严重影响产品成本和质量。美国没有能力解决毒品问题,因为这个问题的核心是执法部门的腐败问题。
You have a very bad outlook on capitalism in America. You're insinuating the country is suffering the Opium Wars that occurred in China.
😂😂😂 spend Chinese and get an interpreter why force yourself to speak English
Why would he do that
Dumbest comment I've seen all day. His English is fine.
