Great interview. The interviewer really listens and ask relevant, follow up questions that are well constructed, which unfortunately is far too unusual these days. Too many reporters like the sound of their own voice so much that they forget what the listeners want to hear about, and you end up knowing more about the interviewer than the interviewee. Kudos.
When they mentioned his kids wearing a BR t-shirt, it instantly flashed me back to 93'. I was 12, and I saw Bad Religion and the meat men. My first non local show, and I had my BR shirt. I loved that fucking thing!
Bob Clark Those were the days when you could see great bands for $5 at the door,or $3 and a canned good lol. But I mistyped there, it was 96'. I remembered it wrong, it's all a bit hazy now
I wish Gregg were my father. He seems so wise and insightful. I got to shake his hand after a show in SLC but he was didn't feel well so he only stayed for a short while.
Great interview. Greg is an inspiration to me as are all the members of BR. He shows that all punk rockers aren't nihilistic morons driven by their most primal urges.
This guy is well cool. Just Seen that Bad Religion are at a punk Festival in Blackpool inthe UK next August. I amvisiting Scotland then, so will saunteron down and see them! Gota lot of catching up to do on their back catalogue.
You aughta go down to your local library and read Greg's book Anarchy Evolution, brilliant hardly scratches the surface. There's so much much real life experience and wisdom in that book that I read it every now and then just to keep a larger yet more focused perspective.
I knew he was intelligent, mainly what I mean was that he isn't a dickhead. But I will go pick up that book(that I didn't know existed until now wtf?) today if they have it, thanks bud.
How profound for a punk rock musician/college professor to communicate ideas inspiring people to think through music. Why Not? We sing as children as a memory device and emotion is also tied to remembering and relating/lesrning/applying ideas and concepts.
But u won’t get the gutter rawness of tim Armstrong in Greg imagine being in a bar fight with Greg or Tim different people. U can’t really compare the 2
I would give everything to be taught by Greg Graffin. He doesn't give himself enough credit. Also, his quote, 'if someone's going to criticise you, it's more a reflection of them than it is of you', were the songs from Suffer, No Control, and their other albums, criticisms of themselves as much as they are criticisms of the world around them?
Bad Religion can kinda be a heritage act, I bet people will pay good money to see them live playing only How Could Hell Be Any Worse, Suffer and No Control.
I hear metal music. The only punk rock band i like is bad religion, and that band is so f.. great! I respect that man(songs with meanings and strong good music).
Try Choking Victim's "No Gods No Managers" or Propagandhi's "How To Clean Up Everything" and NoFX's "The Decline" or the Gorilla Biscuits, or maybe some Op Ivy or the Dead Kennedy's or some Suicidal Tendencies or the Minutemen
Touring is like going on archeological digs - doing gigs all around the world, where Dr. Graffins teaching is in between those adventures. Exactly what Dr. Jones is doing. ;)
This excellent interview, and Greg's comments made me think of Tested: "... there's always one more hill to climb "bombarded by multiple choices 24/7 navigating a tangled web of logic and passion guided by subconscious voices, astute and sharpened tested, tested"
Great interview with a very intelligent person. At least CBC holds integrity in letting the interviewer properly craft and interview. If the interview was done with an American interviewer odds are we would have heard rather unsettling questions and he would have likely cut Greg off a bunch. Great job Jian!
Relevant question: Do you *have* fans? Bare in mind that opportunity affects people's actions. Btw "coerced" might be a little bit strong here and he has never claimed to be some kind of sexual puritan.
Oh please... Shut up... Or haven't you done things similar to that ever? He's as human as anyone else, but smarter and brighter from a musical and intelllectual point of view, that's why you can see "Greg Graffin for president" t-shirts very easily.
Bad religion is one of those timeless bands. I respect Greg even more after this interview.
Bad Religion is the best band ever formed.
@@oneball1926. Jesus Christ you have a very low bar
Bring him back on again and again Greg Graffin is an international treasure
Greg is like a good wine, only gets better
I owe a lot to this guy.
wow. im just so impressed with both of these guys. greg is punk royalty and is incredibly well spoken. jian is such an impressive interviewer
I love Bad Religion . And greg graffin seems like a very good guy.
this guy is a legend!
Even re-listening to this interview is great. Greg is such an inspiration.
Kudos.
Punk Rock forever ! Not punk rock til you’re 40s!! Forever!!!
When they mentioned his kids wearing a BR t-shirt, it instantly flashed me back to 93'. I was 12, and I saw Bad Religion and the meat men. My first non local show, and I had my BR shirt. I loved that fucking thing!
My first show was Bad Religion, Samiam, and The Supersuckers back in 93. It was such a life changing night!
Bob Clark Those were the days when you could see great bands for $5 at the door,or $3 and a canned good lol. But I mistyped there, it was 96'. I remembered it wrong, it's all a bit hazy now
The world needs punk now more than ever!
If he was my lecturer I would NEVER be bored and constantly ask questions about BR.
A LEGEND!!!
what an interview.... so interesting... flawless
my hero :)
My hero! What a fantastic perspective, where would we be without BR
very cleaver, i hope you come to Argentina to see you live concert
i love to listen to True North. Nice job.
Bad Religion is timeless.....
I wish Gregg were my father. He seems so wise and insightful. I got to shake his hand after a show in SLC but he was didn't feel well so he only stayed for a short while.
+kellridd It's better to put like: «I wish my father was more like Gregg...», 'cause otherwise it's quite hurtful :-).
Excellent interview, Greg Graffin is my idol
All the interviews Jian does are so worth watching.
Nice interview, nice conversation. I like how Mr. Graffin articulates his view on "parent(ing)"
It’s so good to see Dr. Graffin subjected to an intellectual conversation rather than interview with an illiterate. Also, he rocks.
Listening to Greg talk just makes me want to drink tea and be relaxed, but also be pissed off at the world at the same time.
great interview!
Such an awesome conversation, thanks for publishing.
this was awesome to Greg open up some
great interview and band!
The Neil Diamond of punk rock!..
Fantastic interview!
It’s insane how many great songs Bad Religion has pumped out.
Great interview. Greg is an inspiration to me as are all the members of BR. He shows that all punk rockers aren't nihilistic morons driven by their most primal urges.
Greg is such an inspiration to me.

Thanks a bunch, great interview!
The professor of punk
Poser band. Do you not like music that much?
Wow....amazing guy
This was 4 years ago. How did he age so much in only 4 years????
I think the fact that he stopped dying his hair black makes him appear much more his actual age. That's just my guess.
joe strummer I saw BR punk rock bowling 2013 The True North American tour later in December when they performed Oh Emmanuel on Conan he had grey hair
Fantastic interview.
why Greg never went on into politics i don't know?! he's very intellectual yet grounded and is what i would love to see in a politician these days!!!
*****
really?! where did you hear that? are you suggesting he's an anarchist?
*****
go for it dude!!! hope it works out for ya!
have you ever listened to bad religion? it is pretty obvious what he thinks of politics and politicians
*****
i was replying to the OP not you. you were right, he hates politics as they stand
too much spotlight would be my guess, the wrong kind of spotlight
another great interview!
This interview had a profound effect on me on the way I view Greg Graffin as a human being. I can't think of a simpler way to say it.
You aughta go down to your local library and read Greg's book Anarchy Evolution, brilliant hardly scratches the surface. There's so much much real life experience and wisdom in that book that I read it every now and then just to keep a larger yet more focused perspective.

Rock on yon seeker, may you find more than you hope and hope more than you doubt
Punk Rock Engineer, Professor of Evolutionary Science ; Dr. Greg Graffin
Great interview, as usual.
They played the Horseshoe?!?!?!? How the heck do I keep missing these things???
How profound for a punk rock musician/college professor to communicate ideas inspiring people to think through music. Why Not? We sing as children as a memory device and emotion is also tied to remembering and relating/lesrning/applying ideas and concepts.
Profound? Seems pretty normal for punk
True north is a great album
"When we eat yogurt we are essentially inoculating ourselves". You wouldn't get gems like that in an interview with Tim Armstrong.
Well in fairness Tim Armstrong is a different person
You also won't get Matt Freeman on a BR album, although BR have always had pretty solid bass lines... The album Suffer was killer in that regard
Devil's Offspring nice profile pic bruh.
But u won’t get the gutter rawness of tim Armstrong in Greg imagine being in a bar fight with Greg or Tim different people. U can’t really compare the 2
@@elvissinatra3120 Thanks, the O-Dudes are classic
Great interview - Graffin is a champ.
Hes really interesting and smart person.
really good interview
a great Canadian interview. Gotta love BR
Thank Jesus for Bad Religion!
Thank Greg for Bad Religion and thank Romans for bad religion lol, Jesus had nothin to do with either one of them, he would have loved BR tho
cool interview thanks
This guy is satisfied love Bad Religion
Cool interview!
awesome interview jian!

I swear, with Greg's manner of speaking, it sounds like he's actually singing!
Bad Religion can kinda be a heritage act, I bet people will pay good money to see them live playing only How Could Hell Be Any Worse, Suffer and No Control.

Greg for prez
I am a teacher and I can so relate to what he says at 2:38
Touring is like going on archeological digs - doing gigs all around the world, where Dr. Graffins teaching is in between those adventures. Exactly what Dr. Jones is doing. ;)
Dr. Graffin goes up to the true north in order to promote "True North". Seems appropriate.
That's perceptive - I appreciate your analysis. Nice
the interviewer is cool and calmn whic i like. And of course Dr Greg graffing is wonderfull and intellectual as always.
Punk rock 101!
I love Graffin! I grew up loving Bad Religion and Ive always been both a nerd AND A Punkocker (4.0 untill o went into nursing school)
A clever man.
This excellent interview, and Greg's comments made me think of Tested:
"... there's always one more hill to climb
"bombarded by multiple choices 24/7
navigating a tangled web of logic and passion
guided by subconscious voices, astute and sharpened

Ah, Graffin. The Indiana Jones of punk rock.
Practice builds confidence
Great interview unfortunately sometimes host interrupts and camera moves are little bad
And Bad Religion didn't release another album for 6 more years after this.
It's weird man I forgot about jian gomeshi
Can we bring Jian back? He was vindicated.
youre trippn.
Great interview with a very intelligent person. At least CBC holds integrity in letting the interviewer properly craft and interview. If the interview was done with an American interviewer odds are we would have heard rather unsettling questions and he would have likely cut Greg off a bunch. Great job Jian!
But can we all say that the ironic Christmas album was amazing? 😂😂
hard working
Why the "indiana Jones"?
haha, douchie gomeshi comes out at 10:14
How about just being honest. That's how he felt about their current music and I can see that both you and Greg were "offended" by his opinion.
The host is the example of 60s FM radio jock.
well spotted
You've been sanitized.
Relevant question: Do you *have* fans? Bare in mind that opportunity affects people's actions.
Btw "coerced" might be a little bit strong here and he has never claimed to be some kind of sexual puritan.
Weird interview after everything that went down.
que bueno sería que alguien traduzca al castellano....
We need to bring Occupy Wall Street back to life.
"Our album cycles are typically between 2-3 years"
....or 5...
Greg kinda sounds like John Marston from Red Dead Redemption, don't he?
Wow. He really does. Haha
Oh please... Shut up... Or haven't you done things similar to that ever? He's as human as anyone else, but smarter and brighter from a musical and intelllectual point of view, that's why you can see "Greg Graffin for president" t-shirts very easily.
2 thumbs up!!!!!!!!!
25:25 - Greg's laughing :)
man hes a great man. if someone says something about you is 100% a reflection of them
he's human
