    Good morning Brock. In my opinion Keep a slight slope away from the house. Never give water a path to your foundation. Use your fabric cloth but leave a slight gap when you come to the transition of your driveway.

      I came here to say this! I only own a tractor with a FEL, but am actually renting a tractor with a backhoe this weekend so that I can correct the reverse-slope that’s around my old farmhouse.

    My dad always taught me: KISS = Keep IT Simple Stupid. You have slope away from the house now. Lay down fabric. Cover with 2 inch stone. Dress with crushed limestone so it won't wash away. Neat, clean, done.

    My best attachment, backhoe. Use the bucket to loosen everything up, use the teeth to kick around and flip out the rock. Use the thumb to select out the stones. Level it iff, plant the whole thing grass. Keep it trimmed with a weed wacker. I'll take a grassy patch any day for neat and quick.

    I’ve got a gravel driveway and thinking seriously about doing the same thing you’re doing here. I’ll probably leave a couple ornamental bushes but definitely considering getting rid of the grass. Looking forward to see how yours turns out. Thanks for sharing!!! ‘Bout time for you to do another live. 👍🏻

    Definitely sow it in grass. Over time, the rock will fill in with grass and weeds, even with the fabric, and it's a huge pain to pull weeds.

    Well you already know my rock bucket loads a lot of firewood, but I really like it to sort the wood out of a burned pile. It really works well on the skid steer where you can see the cutting edge and hit and miss what you want.

    Personally I would dig it a bit deeper, put seal on the masonry, and cut in a perimeter drain around there that will be covered with landscaping rock. IMO you are sealing and waterproofing the foundation as well as keeping one step ahead of any drainage issues around the house. You're already digging around the one side might as well continue and get 2 projects accomplished at the same time... and while weather permits.

    Try dumping the dirt and rocks out of your bucket to loosen it and then re-pick it up to help strain the rock from the dirt. And you’re doing a really good job. Keep it up.

    I would take out some of the drrit just to get the fabric down, then add your gravel, but the easiest way would be clean up the edge and grass seed it but I am like u I hate weed eating 😅

  • @briancarpenter8297

    I have a similar area next to my house that had a bunch of rocks and also a tree, so the 3046R won't fit. I used to have to weed eat the whole area, recently I bought a DeWalt cordless mower and use that for the area. It mulches, is self propelled and folds up nice for storage. Now I weed eat around the house and the shed, then make a pass around each with the push mower, including the area by the tree, then do the rest of the yard with the 3046R. When I moved in, there was landscaping everywhere. It looked nice, but I prefer low maintenance. Keeping weeds and grass out of rock is too much work for me. I have 2 small rock beds at the base of the driveway that I treat with RoundUp 365 every year and use my weed burner. Even though there's fabric underneath, dirt still builds up in the rocks and weeds grow. TL;DR I would just do grass and mow it. I find it too hard to keep rock beds looking nice.

    Good morning Brock. I'm no expert on landscaping by any stretch but I think that what I would do is take off the topsoil and sod, then fill it back in with some clay sloping it away from the foundation, then put the Geo-tech down, and cover it with your choice of aggregate. I think that the clay might help seal any water from going toward the foundation. Can't swear to it but I think that's what I would do. God bless and have a wonderful day. 👍👍🙂

  • @BS.-.-

    Be careful pushing your driveway upto the house. It can put pressure on your foundation. Mine had cracks and was pushed in due to this. I made a stone flower bed that stuck out a few feet and the amount of time I weed it is far less than the amount of time it took to replace the foundation.

    I would've worked facing uphill so I could see how close the bucket is to the house, the pitch helps you curl issue too.
    I plant without fabric something you don't need to maintain or very little. Tall grasses, ground cover, tiger lilly, etc of some sort. Rock needs to be maintained too believe it or not.

    If u put rock are you gonna park on it ? If it's just for looks , ease of maintenance a parking once and a while just cover with rocks. It's rocky enough soil where u r not going loose your material . These are my 3 cents , of course do whatever you want ill support your decision. I think the weed barrier eventually doesn't matter.I'm wondering about the wagon status , the same waiting for rainy days? Well great job

    Well.... get yourself some cardboard like 2 or 3 layers.... add a few small shrubs and put about 4 to 5 inches of hardwood tree bark.... done... it looks good and if you get a weed or 2 they pull out super easy.

    I'd keep the driveway away from the foundation. Make sure you have a clear slope away from the house. It is better to have ruts in your driveway than water in your basement. Keep an eye on the downspout.

The video is fun to watch though seeing that guy hammer that poor Tractor like he does. It takes it but I don’t know how long it would take it…

    I have that same visibility issue with the L4701. It gets infuriating using forks sometimes because I can't see where the tips are and I don't know if they're level enough to get under the IBC tote. I've thought about getting a back-up camera on Amazon or Ali-Express and mounting it on the nose of the hood, and putting the monitor somewhere I can see it on the console (the L4701 is open station, although it almost never gets rained on). Only problem is most of the back-up monitors aren't really sunlight readable and they're pretty small. Not sure a 24" PC monitor is gonna fit :)

    IMO You can just use the fabric and the crush R run and skip the base rock
    Or use fabric and some type of decorative small rock to make a clean border
    and to mess with you more lol
    True 2A modified is for road 2B Has drainage that might be better for your application
    Look forward to you next video 👍

    What if you put flat bricks buried up against the house and then plant grass seed. Then you wouldn't have to use the trimmer. If you just extend the driveway over to the house, you'll have my problem eventually with weeds and grass coming through because there's no traffic in that area. That's my $.02!

  • @HarryVonhoene

    Take most of the dirt out so its flat,
    With the driveway, cover it with landscaping fabric
    Then prob 3 inches of stone. That how I'd do it!

  • @seandever2289
    @seandever2289 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Lol Brock, if only you had a tool that would allow you to easily grade that area keeping slope away from the house and getting the rocks out. Oh yeah, you have a backhoe and a skid to easily move it all. Rock buckets have a use, that ain't it! When you've already graded the area but there is alot of stones and roots, great. Digging compacted ground, nope!

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s a lot of hassle messing with the backhoe on something like this. It doesn’t have any reach so you’re constantly moving the machine and then you still have to come back and scoop up the rocks.

  • @ronfurrow3640
    @ronfurrow3640 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Consider using typar instead of landscape fabric. Slope away from the house with rock. I typically use a larger stone and then cover with something smaller. I think typar is better at keeping the gravel from sinking and weeds from growing than traditional landscape fabric. I think larger rock stays on a slope better than smaller gravel and you don’t have to constantly chase it back up to the top of the slope. It also holds smaller stone in place.

    • @RockhillfarmYT
      @RockhillfarmYT  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am outside finishing this job right now. I’m using a woven geotextile fabric.

  • @ibwaldo
    @ibwaldo 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Personally I think I would skip any fabric as it looks like you have some Bermuda grass and those darn runners are going to get in there and grow back…. Then it will be more maintenance with either a weed wacker or spraying chemicals. I think running rock right up to your foundation is fine because you’re never going to drive that close to your house. If the Bermuda starts getting in there you can just box blade it out when you’re touching up your driveway. So I vote for your original plan, just don’t bother with the fabric so if maintenance is necessary due to Bermuda grass, it will be quick and easy tractor work 👍

  • @Markam248
    @Markam248 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    cut it down 4-6" lay the fabric. that way it will below the driveway level and will not get in the way when you work on the drive. just my two cents.

  • @peterkoster5053
    @peterkoster5053 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I'd say leave it then gravel over it... forget the landscape fabric, iv seen weeds grow over fabric, plus then when you do driveway work you might pull it up. I'd just gravel it then box blade it when need be to stir up the weeds.
