Venezuela - Is there a path back to democracy?

Once a strong democracy with a growing economy, Venezuela now faces significant challenges. The election of authoritarian president Hugo Chavez in 1998, followed by a sever economic downturn in the 2010s, illegitimate elections, political turmoil, and failing social services, have left the country in a sever political and humanitarian crisis.
We hosted former Ambassador Luigi Einaudi for a presentation on the prospects for democracy in Venezuela and what the United States should do in the face of the most recent fraudulent election.
