    I lived in Rose Hill then, and we got clobbered also...no power for 8 days, very hot, and I must have been the only one in my neighborhood without a generator...(lol). Hard to sleep with the heat (no breeze) and constant roar of the generators. Showered at a lady friend"s house in Wallace, she had no power either, but did have water, albeit COLD water. Lost 14 pine trees in the yard, although none hit the house. I had just finished cleaning up the yard from Bertha...

    Used to go there at Barnacle Bills as a kid..Me and my wife went not long after Fran to look..It was the last time I saw what was left of the place and pier..Sad

    Very sad, we drove down in Dec, that year and the damage was still evident. It was so eerie seeing no sand dunes left, such a shame for our beloved Topsail Island....

      I remember even a year later it was bad. that winter huge piles of debris bulldozed into piles everywhere... construction standards have improved since then... I think. however population density over all areas has probably quadrupled since then
