    One of the biggest issues with Joe Boot is he’s far more concerned with calling the civil magistrate to heel, than he is in seeing the individual Christian absorb the idea of “all of Christ for all of Life” into our every interaction. That’s the true way of the Kingdom.

      Theonomists seem overly concerned with authority. They mean to have authority and exercise their understanding of God's Law over the people. I contend that their understanding of God's Law and God's Law as it actually is are two different things. This is because none of us have been glorified yet; we are still being sanctified. Improper motivations and misunderstandings can still get into our minds and distort our attempts to do good. In short, we still sin.
      Additionally, one could also argue that the United States is already a theonomy. Boot and Durbin might say otherwise. The counter to that is to say that murder is illegal, theft is illegal, and bearing false witness is illegal. If they object, one could say, "Are those not God's laws?" Sure, it's not perfect, as we would agree. What they need to do is to explain what _more_ they want to make illegal in the civil code and what the punishments for disobedience will be. My concern about theonomists is that I'm suspicious they want to execute sinners, that they want that authority.

    • @interestedmeow

      @@TheMaineSurveyor they are essentially in a bit of a No True Scots fallacy. And I’m so doing they undermine their own, self-proclaimed, best argument of “its either Autonomy or Theonomy” which itself is a false dilemma.
      Even Israel at its most faithful (good luck trying to nail that one down) barely attained to most of what Yahweh laid out in the Law.

    • @interestedmeow
      @interestedmeow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMaineSurveyor and even if they don’t want that authority themselves, they are laying the theological groundwork for a future generation to have that authority and wield it. What they keep forgetting is the throughout history, often the most violent and tyrannical regimes are essentially the zombified remains of strong ‘Christendom’ states.

    As believers living on Earth, we are only declared righteous; we are not actually righteous. Therefore, we will not be able to set up a righteous government. The Puritans couldn't do it. Ancient Israel couldn't do it. But we do have the Holy Spirit, with the Law written on our hearts. We also have a charge to go out and make disciples. We have not been commanded to go out and take over governments and attempt to reestablish the Law over the people.
    The Great Commission will be 100% successful; it will not fail. Exactly 100% of the people that God has elected for salvation will be saved; no more, and no less. We don't know how many people this will be at any given time, but that's okay. God has it all under control. One day, Christ will return and set everything to rights.

    • @david4china
      @david4china 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Jeremy - You seem to have a warped understanding of "dominion theology". For one, we could do without your feigned concern and condescension. Go educate yourself on the Puritans' "God-entranced vision of all things" and reflect back on the impact you are personally making for the "working out of your salvation" in your own circle of influence. Hopefully, you will then see that the "gospel of the kingdom" is more than just a message about a king who died for his enemies. That is essential and beautiful and amazing. But it's much more. God is reconciling all things to Himself. He's making all things new!
      Does Jesus Christ reign and rule over all aspects of YOUR being? Do you desire that? Do you desire to see that extended out to your family and community and society? The world is a messed up place and mightily disordered because of sin, but as Christians we have the great privilege and call to be co-workers in the reconciliation/restoration of ALL THINGS TO GOD, because as Joe quoted Romans 11:36, ALL things are from Him, through Him and to Him. To Him be the glory forever, AMEN.

    Man I've been watching this channel for a few months now... Love watching the witnessing encounters, but this is discouraging because what I'm hearing sounds like dominionism. Please either clarify that you aren't saying we are supposed to be making our culture Christian or, if that is indeed what you are saying, please give me some biblical evidence that we are commanded to do that. Our main goal should be to share the Gospel and pray for the people to receive it, not to change people's minds about cultural issues.

    • @libertarian85
      @libertarian85 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Is Christ Lord of everything or not?
      If He is, then we are to transform culture.
      It is very, very, very mistaken to believe in a sort of Pietism that privatizes faith.
      To give up on Culture, Politics etc and then turn around and complain that we live in a Godless society is the height of insanity.

    • @libertarian85

      Cultural issues ARE effected by the Gospel.
      The Gospel transforms, it is NOT a private, hidden thing.

    Jesus is primarily concerned with saving us out of this present evil world we live in. It’s not about having a dominionist theocracy here on earth now . Jesus will establish his kingdom in the life of his believers and when He comes to be admired by all men at His second coming . But this kingdom now belongs to Satan . --
    Then the seventh angel sounded; and there were loud voices in heaven, saying, “ The kingdom of the world has become the kingdom of our Lord and of His Christ; and He will reign forever and ever.” And the twenty-four elders, who sit on their thrones before God, fell on their faces and worshiped God, saying, “We give You thanks, O Lord God, the Almighty, who are and who were, because You have taken Your great power and have begun to reign. And the nations were enraged, and Your wrath came, and the time came for the dead to be judged, and the time to reward Your bond-servants the prophets and the saints and those who fear Your name, the small and the great, and to destroy those who destroy the earth.” And the temple of God which is in heaven was opened; and the ark of His covenant appeared in His temple, and there were flashes of lightning and sounds and peals of thunder and an earthquake and a great hailstorm.
    Revelation 11:15-19

      Jesus died to save us and take us out of this world? This is more Gnostic than Christian thinking. Blessed are the meek for they shall inherit the earth. At the consummation of all things, there will be a new heaven and new earth. Not escapism from the earth. God will one day change the earth making all things new. Just as believers will one day be raised to new life, so all creation will be made new. This is why the trees metaphorically clap their hands, the creation longs for the redemption of the children of God because it means the world's deliverance from corruption, which it had been subjected to.The good creation is good, God isn't going to throw his good work in the trash but redeem it. The kingdom of darkness was defeated at the cross, and has been transferred to the kingdom of light. Jesus is King, and his kingdom is presently here on earth as in heaven. This kingdom talk fills nearly 90% of the Gospels and is the aspect of the Gospel itself prior to Jesus' death, and was inaugurated by His death and what the parables had spoken of.

    The Holy Quran
    Allaah says in Surat Maryam
    Relate in the Book (the story of) Maryam, when she withdrew from her family to a place in the East.
    She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent to her Our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects.
    She said: "I seek refuge from thee to (Allah) Most Gracious: (come not near) if thou dost fear Allah."
    He said: "Nay, I am only a Messenger from thy Lord, (to announce) to thee the gift of a holy son."
    She said: "How shall I have a son, seeing that no man has touched me, and I am not unchaste?"
    He said: "So (it will be): thy Lord saith, 'That is easy for Me: and (We wish) to appoint him as a Sign unto men and a Mercy from Us': it is matter (so) decreed."
    So she conceived him, and she retired with him to a remote place.
    And the pains of childbirth drove her to the trunk of a palm tree: she cried (in her anguish) "Ah! would that I had died before this! would that I had been a thing forgotten and out of sight!"
    But (a voice) cried to her from beneath the (palm-tree): "Grieve not! for thy Lord hath provided a rivulet beneath thee;
    "And shake towards thyself the trunk of the palm-tree; it will let fall fresh ripe dates upon thee.

      They're postmillennials. They think Christ returns at the end of the Millennium. Prior to His return, they think the world will be virtually 100% Christian, and that it will be heaven on Earth--utopia--because they think this is the logical conclusion of the Great Commission, what they mean by the Great Commission being successful. They think anything less than that is a failure of the Great Commission.
      I think the Great Commission will absolutely be successful: God will save everyone that He has called to salvation; He won't lose anyone that He calls. I have no idea what percentage of the population that will be at any given time, and neither does Joe Boot or Jeff Durbin, but they think they do.
