The interviews on this channel are fantastic. The interviewer knows what questions to ask, how to ask them, and then how to get out of the way and let the person being interviewed speak. A lot of journalists just like to hear the sound of their own voice and just talk over the people they are interviewing. How this guy doesn’t have a larger platform I don’t know. I wish I worked in radio. I would give this guy a two hour show every day and just turn him loose. I’ve had so much fun listening to this channel over the last year or so that I’ve been a subscriber. Is there a way to support the channel on Patreon? Please keep up the good work.

I was playing the Los Angeles clubs from 86-89 and I actually went to Vicky's apartment and talked to her about managing my band in mid 1987. GnR had already signed to Geffen and they had hired a larger management company, but Vicky had been hired at Geffen in the A&R department and she was looking for other bands to manage. I sat on her couch and I can clearly remember her and her boyfriend shuffling thru VHS tapes and showing me bands and talking to me about how important the image and show were to getting a deal. I had sent her some demos prior to our meeting and I brought more songs that evening and played them for her. She liked some of the material, especially the power ballads, but wasn't big on our "jeans, tshirts and boots" image because bands like Poison and Faster Pussycat were very androgynous, which is what she was looking for at that time. Seemed like a nice lady, nothing ever came of our meeting.

Do you recall her boyfriends name? does Jerry ring a bell? I know my one Guitarist Jerry lived with her not sure what year, she was A&R with Geffen at that time... Funny Story I play Drums, I get a call to audition for "Hollywood Rose" - I go over and I see these five guys all strung out and I say fuck this and split, never even play, I had just left a band where the singer had real Heroin issue, I think I am not subjecting myself to any BS. Turns out later LA Guns breaks up and Hollywood Rose split up and half join half to become GUNS N ROSES - I wonder if was a blessing or a curse i did not pursue that gig. - What was your Band? - I played there same time like you ...84 - 97 on and off. I Jammed with Alice Cooper in 1989

@@Rev7Seven7 I don't remember her BFs name. I went there with my singer and when we left, I remember talking about what a dork the BF was. LoL! During the mid to late 80s, that little area on Sunset had Geffen, Atlantic and McGhee's offices. I remember having a chance to speak to Tom Zutat, John Kolodner at Geffen and McGhee himself. Kolodner actually got me a sit down with a VP at Atlantic, nothing came of that. I actually had a sit down with Irving Azoff, he liked the material but told me to get a different singer. He put me in touch with a bass player and a drummer and told us to find a singer and come back to him. We couldn't find anyone. I remember first hearing Skid Row and thinking, "that's the guy I was looking for...shit. :(" There were a lot of bands in LA at that time, lots of A&R people around, so I'm sure you never heard of us. I will say that I could play, had a really good tone, and got some attention because of my chops. Check out my TH-cam channel for a few vids and so you can hear my tone...to see if I'm full of sh*t or not about my playing :). I'll tell you a great story - around that same 1987 time frame, somehow I ended up having a convo with Sharon Osbourne, it was right after Jake parted ways with Ozzy. I told her I was like Randy - taught, knew theory, helped my singer develop melodies, etc. She gave me her business card and told me to put together a cassette of about 2 min worth of stuff that would blow her away. I actually recorded the cassette but never sent it to her. If you were playing up there and you were headlining on Fri/Sat, you ran into a lot of people.

Maybe because I don’t play an instrument and can’t sing a note, but when I hear people say certain musicians suck, I have to ask why they say it. Are you musically trained to pick up mistakes or is it that you just don’t like the songs. I don’t care for Queensryche or Nirvana, but I wouldn’t say they suck as musicians. Poison is just a simple good time rock and roll band. If you prefer a more sophisticated sound, fine. But that doesn’t tell me why you’d say they suck as musicians. Granted, I was never a fan of the girlish glam look, but I think Poison sounds pretty good. I just want to know “why” people say they’re not good musicians.

yeah, I agree with you up to a point. CC Deville was a great guitar showman ...the classic guitar god. I liked Bret's singing voice when he was younger. But as he got older his voice lost that fire. His voice sounds thin and tinny to me. I think people say they're not the best musicians because their songs are bubble gummy.
IMO they have some songs that showcases that they are great musicians.
But most of their songs are bubble gummy. Sort of like if you removed the adult themes from the lyrics the music would've appealed to 12 year old little girls.
By and large I think people don't like them because they're jealous of all the attention they got from the ladies.

Great Comment - Imagine if it was a race to see how fast one could get to the end of a song. that is just stupid. or how many notes one can play inside of on bar. music is all about the dance, the being in the moment, in the here and now - maybe the only time we really experience the present. I agree with you; if it feels/sounds good or it does not. If it resonates it resonates - like food we all have preference. or clothes ... people who say "suck" whatever, who gives a flying fuk what they think - ego? arrogance? joking? venting? who knows why ? They weave around simple chord progressions with stupid lyrics and the lead guitar player's solo strategy can be nailed down by an acute ear. Also, they are selling an image and not music so their impact is lost to history. Think about it, outside of talk dirty to me and every rose has it's thorn, you probably can't name a song or hum a melody of their stuff; and only one of those songs is any good and it sucks by default because it was a power ballad.

For many years hard rock & metal were very loved and appreciated by the "kids" across the world. Van Halen, Priest, Maiden, AC/DC, Rainbow, Ozzy--i could go on but my point is, there came a time, when MTV, ushered in a new era of band that the world came to CORRECTLY know as "hair bands". From an artistically LITERATE perspective, these bands drove millions of people away from rock into genres like alternative, techno, emo...
These groups are directly responsible for KILLING the "industry" because, to literate fans, they were a blatant parody of what rock actually was. It was embarrassing to witness groups who so OBVIOUSLY wished they were Van Halen, cop to writing, singing, and playing such pandering "chicky" metal. Rock historians will tell you this was the beginning of the end of the first rock renaissance, as people believed rock had nothing left to offer if groups like Poison, Motley Crue, White Lion, Warrant, Cinderella, Vixen, Trixter, and too many others to name were the best bands to choose from. This also gave industrial space for the introduction of hip hop. All these groups eventually imploded, while the ACTUAL rock bands like Priest and Maiden and Van Halen survived and prospered for many years. Hair bands were a deception and an insult to the legitimacy of real rock, and real rockers. They were posers.

@@Rev7Seven7 yeah, I'm familiar with GHOST. They have some great music.
Back to Ingrid. What was going on in the late 1980's, early 1990's, the go-to company that booked tours for American, British and European tours pretty much didn't know about all of the venues, music halls and arenas that could accommodate bands as big as GnR.
So South Americans were getting screwed out of shows and the bands were getting screwed out of reaching new fans in South America.
GnR found out about Ingrid being from South America and knowing where all teh venues were. After she successfully booked a very successful tour in South America for GnR, and GnR publicly praised her, other arena bands started hiring Ingrid to do their south american tours.
The original company booking the south american tours for GnR fuched up everything so bad GnR had to cancel plans for a tour, or some shit. It was pretty bad. I don't remember all the details. All I remember is the original tour company was so bad that their tours were nightmares.
I believe part of the problem is that original touring company would book shows in very, very bad parts of South America that were not really safe for the bands, or anyone else to travel into.
Ingrid knew all the great places to book shows that wouldn't get the band kidnapped and held for random. It might sound funny now, but back then it was a real issue.

Bobby once said: He never set out to be a musician, he set out to be a Rock Star. And that is what he became. - I played in a band with Bobby before Poison. even then in 1982 He could play Led Zeppelin, Rush, Priest, Maiden... all the staples.

Poison was awful and I didn't even find them good looking! Bret calling this beautiful woman or any woman the " C" word tells you just what type of trash he had been. Cracked me up with the Bret Rock of love show and the girl yells on her way out screw you and your " WIG" . LOL- hahahaha - I nearly peed my pants laughing. The only thing he gained out of that show was some broad claiming to be his bodyguard . I can't remember her name she went around beating the little girls. I kept waiting for one to finally kick her assets. LOL- hahaha 😂 Karma hasn't finished with him . He has a daughter how would he like someone calling her that "C" word ? A couple of years ago, one of the guys involved in suing Poison over "Talk Dirty to Me," and I think there were other songs, reached out to me for an interview, but then he said I couldn't ask any questions about the Poison lawsuit (which is what I wanted to ask him about). So, I'm assuming Poison quietly settled with him/them but had them sign a non-disclosure agreement. I think there's an interview (that's still up) on my channel with Ric Browde, where he talks about how he had to sue them for songs he helped write...one of them was "Cry Tough," I believe.
