I've lost over $1.5 million to this disgusting addiction and I'm only 31 years old. I lost a house, my dream car and more. Currently on the path to loosing my 2nd house. This addiction is something people on the outside could never understand. Every day I find it easier to understand why some people choose suicide. The pain and shame is so overwhelming.

Thank you for sharing your story Lewis, you are an inspiration. The fact you have relapsed and still over and over get up and continue to share your story is an inspiration
As someone who worked in the bookies for 10+ years. This what bookmakers do. They set up shops in the poorest and most deprived areas to keep people in the grip, you often see area managers and higher people telling staff to check on customers welfare not realise it’s only for the company’s legislation in the event of them getting sued hence the jobsworth like people who think they have a career in that industries. Our government will never intervene because of the TAX from the machines and over the counter bets. A nation suffers so a few small people can gain. Gambling is worse than taking crack cocaine, at least when you buy crack you get what you buy, gambling is uncertain and in the houses favour. Too many good men and women lose there life’s over gambling

As somebody who has lived through this, watching this video is heartbreaking. But reading the comments is even more heartbreaking. Over a 10 year span I gambled every penny I had. I thought I’d never be able to stop. It’s coming up 6 years since I last placed a bet. The road is tough, it’s long. But the end comes around quicker than you could ever imagine. Since stopping I’ve cleared my debt and gained a perfect credit rating, got engaged and married, bought a house and have a son. I’m not saying this to gloat, but to hopefully show even 1 person that YOU can do this too. If anybody just needs help or even to talk. I’m here. Accept the help.
I lost about 500€ with scratch tickets, then one day I won 1000€ and never bought one again, it's been 3 years and I'm happy to walk away from gambling with a profit
Tragic story, my friend has a severe compulsive gambling problem, he spent £15, 000 on slots in the last 2 weeks and has emptied his bank accounts and shows no sign of stopping . Any time I say anything about it he turns on me saying "you're not perfect either mate" and "I love the buzz of walking into the bookies" I can't be around him anymore, he's going fast down the tubes.
There's very little you can do. He's an adult and is free to do as he wishes with his own money. If he snaps at you then don't talk about it. However, NEVER GIVE OR "LOAN" THIS PERSON ANY MONEY FOR ANY SUPPOSED PURPOSE. Your friendship with him is probably doomed anyway but giving him money only makes things worse for both of you.
I've never gambled in my life apart from 1 day where I sat at a casino table to observe & play. Straight away I could feel the temptation & desire to keep playing. I sympathise with gambling addicts, its like any other addiction.
Yes I had an addiction years ago. I'm just a gaming person, but with inflation being how it is, then I understand why people turn to gambling is such a big thing nowadays.
The worst thing that can happen is winning on that first day especially if it's a large amount; completely rewires your brain to think of it as an option and as if winning is easy when it isn’t. If you lose on your first session you just think “this is stupid why do people gamble” and never play again. If you win then you start the cycle. (I can win again) and you might but then eventually you won’t but since you’ve won before, you put in more. Nothing. You’re frustrated you start betting higher. You lost everything you’ve won before + some, now you need to win your money back so you keep going. You promise you'll stop if you get it back. You may get it back but what about those previous winnings you lost? You keep going, you lose, you just want your money back and you’ll quit you swear. You've gotten it back several times so it's possible. You nearly get it back. You keep going. You lose everything you have. You use your savings. You get a win but it’s not enough anymore. You have to bet higher. Nothing. Now you work extra hours, borrow money just to go back and get that win. You lose or get such small wins that it's frustrating and useless. You keep going. You lose. Now you need to pay everyone off so you go back. It’s hell.
you dont have to play with more than you can afford. the 'addiction' requires low intelligence and impulsivity. both are traits that are harbored and learned over years and years.
The thing is with the pokies and table games at casinos, is that nobody wants to walk out of there with anything less than they walked in with. And that a lot of the times results on continuous betting in an attempt to get positive. And that’s how people lose most of the time. And then the next time you come, you’ll get say $500 ahead. And then you’ll start to think about how last time you lost $1500. So now you have got to try and win another $1000. And than you’re back to neutral. And than now you’ll want to get ahead. Most of the time you will lose it all.
What he said about using gambling to deal with anxiety and depression really hits home. Sometimes you just need your brain to stop and gambling occupies your brain and senses so much it does the job. But when you stop it all comes crashing back.
Defo agree with delete the apps would advise barring yourself first as you can easily install again as I did but now not able to access any gaming site online so removes that part of the temptation to chuck your money down the drain. So only able to go in shops and arcades still not the answer but stops me playing after work online and waking up next day in the dumpster 🤮
With gambling the biggest thing to know is it's a losing game. The game is rigged against you. And while you might win sometimes it's a profitable business designed to extract your cash. Keep playing and losing is inevitable. You need to know when to quit. Dopamine is a hell of a drug, but you have to find ways to ignore it. I would say find other things that give dopamine to distract you but that's bad advice as otherwise you'll constantly be chasing that high and it will lead to other bad decisions. I think the most important thing is to come to accept the low points and that you don't always need to be running on that exciting feeling of a win. Try to be content with the everyday. Maybe even cut out the highs to find a happier steady state. The lows will probably still be there but hopefully they are lesser too. And it's less of a fall from the extreme high points that make them feel alot more pronounced.
Well said. Our society is geared to instant gratification like the be more dog adverts telling you to buy useless stuff Exercise is a good dopamine fix but even that can be abused. Its all about finding a happy medium i suppose
Gambling is not "rigged", the bookmaker just has a profit margin (overround). A bookmaker's odds compiler might believe all 4 horses in a race have the same 25% chance (25 X 4 = 100%). The fair odds for something known to have a 25% chance is 3/1. Because if all 4 horses had the same 25% chance then a punter could back all 4 @ 3/1 and whoever won would break even... ie £1 bets on all 4 means an overall stake of 4 X £1 = £4... And with 3/1 a £1 stake wins £3 + the £1 stake. £4 staked and £4 returned whoever wins. Which is why the bookmaker adds a profit margin / overround and actually offers not 3/1 but 11/4 (2.75/1) about all 4 runners. 11/4 is 26.7%, so 4 X 26.7 = 106.8%. No longer a "fair" 100% book. The punter no longer able to back all runners and break even. However, with sports betting it is NEVER actually known what the real chance of each horse / team is. So if a knowledgeable punter has worked the same race out as A 25%, B 30%, C 25% and D 20% (25 + 30 + 25 + 20 = 100%)... Then B is in his opinion a good bet @ 11/4, because a 30% strike rate on his 11/4 bets would show a healthy profit. So over time, losing is not "inevitable" if the punter is able to evaluate form into chance better than the odds-compiler.
gambling addiction will lead you to other disgusting addictions like drugs and porn. Where it gets real is that i've beaten drug addiction like 4 times in my life to the point i don't even worry about it anymore , but i find it difficult to quit gambling. I always give myself the excuse of how i'm going to pay off my debts if i don't gamble. Sickening indeed!
I’m going through the same have been for 20 years it’s so difficult to stop it’s soul destroying it’s not even about money it’s about the rush to keep placing bets !
I have lost about 100k USD. over the years of gambling. Then it dawned on me that nobody ever getting rich gambling all their life. Maybe only a few pro poker players. I quitted because it consumed all my free time. I wish to undo it but I can't. I felt better when I considered it was a failed busses venture. Lesson learned the hard way. I stay away from gambling ever since. Good luck everyone to find your way out.
Why? I win most days it helps me buy things and is called not being a loser. Only losers have gambling addictions do you see anybody in comments complaining about winning? No just a bunch of babies who couldn't pick a winner in a 1 horse race.
@xana5649 😂I'm a bit harsh I know but its true. How can they admit to being so sh*t at something? Its like "Hi I'm a f*cking j*rkoff and I'm addicted to being sh*t". Its an insult to me and everyone else to call this a disease.
Get rid of bookies and online. Gambling is awful. You wouldn’t walk into a pub and spend £300 in a day or blow £100’s on drugs in a day. Pure scum and so are the majority of people that work in them.
Im literally crying right now because I am also fighting this addiction…it consumes you…you will feel like money lost its value…you will lose your family and friends…its so hard to avoid…
Gambling addiction is horrible. Especially losing your wages within a few hours/days of receiving them. To all gamblers, please please please at the minimum pay off all your expenses (rent, loans, borrowed money, bills) before you gamble the rest. Obviously in an ideal world, don’t gamble at all - but at least if you lose it all, you have the essentials paid.
I am sickened how mainstream sports betting is now in the USA. Our grandparents were right in being prudish and keeping it out of thier communities. Shame on us for voting it in.
Yes, It's so exciting and I'm happy as hell when I win!!! It's like I'm on a high. I've never done cocaine but they say the feeling is mother same. You feel on top of the world! But the losses. .....feeling lower than low, being broke, feeling controlled.....etc. I'm over it.
I came back to following football after 10+ years and the most striking thing is the onslaught of betting ads around the pitch and placed on every shirt. Even multiple on one. It is shocking that people in the comments are so dense to think this is normal. I thought American sports were bad, but they are no where near as saturated as football.
😮😢I feel 😪 his pain and my heart goes out to him, I am African American man and a military veteran and I was never a gambler until I met my Ex wife whom is Filipino and Japanese mixed and most Asian women are hard core gambler's and I was introduced to casinos 🎰 and gambling from my ex wife and my gambler addiction was only when I was with her and after 14 years of marriage and living to her expectations, I divorced her and motivation to Not gamble anymore and I have not been to a casinos gambling for at least 12 years now, her addiction was my addiction and weakness, since she is gone our of my life, so did gambling went away, so stay strong and keep fighting everyone because the glitzy life and those slots machines and online gambling, is just not worth ruining your lives and loosing your lively hood and loosing relationships because of those casinos and online gambling sites, that shit will make you feel Suicide 😢sometimes and I am speaking from past experiences 😢.
Gambling never makes anyone money besides the host and the veteran one. That should be common sense by now from how many people lose money from it. Not to mention these newbie gamblers use their psychology instead of Maths.
@@hanywhiskey I agree with you. My point was that before getting into gambling one must know that it's not a feasible way of making money. For example I know getting into drugs will make me miserable and addicted even if I get to feel good temporalily, thus before that happens I must not engage in it.
You need to believe that money isn’t the way to happiness. It can pay bills and take you on vacations but remember, any job can do that. Casinos should be banned and that’s one thing governments dont bother with, they think its helping by generating more tax money and revenue for cities but they should know that it’s destroying generations, and those generations are supposed to take care of them when they retire
😢😢😢, I just lost a huge amount which isn’t mine to this addiction, it feels like I’m being cursed 😢😢😢. I’ve tried so hard but still find myself doing it
For those wondering 'why don't they just walk away?', the desire to play and break even with just one more bet is incredibly strong. But, it can be broken. You can say no at any time. It may require changing your social group if everyone else gambles and pressures you to do it, but it's not impossible.
My brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors are going through these gambling things. Some die in silence never been heard. Some strong stay away. This casino is everywhere 24 hrs a day. 7 days a week is very dangerous. They say it is social fun. Waking up people, it is destroying humanity doesn't matter what color you are. Have faith in god and stay far, far away to survive. They are destroying families, and mostly people keep quiet because they are 😳 😢embarrassed.
AS long as gamblers blame themselves then the gambling industry will never be forced to take action - stop advertising, stop give aways, stop courtesy buses, stop free food and drinks, stop all the bells and whistles on one armed bandits. stop designing casinos so you can't find your way out etc.
A responsible government would ban these gambling dens off our streets, yes, blood money (Tax) is all the chancellor(s) care about but it's not good enough as victims such as those on benefits are among those who risk living on next to nothing turning to stealing and petty crime to survive & also the employed are getting fleeced out of their hard earned. Bookmakers are a dangerous menace & all should be closed down including all the on-line firms just only allow bets on the racecourses/Greyhounds.

man fuck you just because you cant control yourself doesnt mean i shouldnt be able to gamble.. if your spending over 10% of your net worth on entertainment, its a YOU issue.
Gambling is positive for my mental health. Makes me feel in control and like i can achieve things that would otherwise be out of reach. So-called "gambling problems" are 100% psychological. You simply need to be prepared to lose it all. Gambling impulsively is different to gambling in a cautious and calculated manner. You gotta behave and operate like a casino, and not a customer who just throws money at a game for thrill and excitement.
Boi i figured out, i‘m only there for thrills and excitement I could win as much as i want, i would just gamble higher till all the lights go out And thats a problem
thanks for this comment i seriously cannot believe the amount of childish impulsive sad sacks of shit in these comments trying to sympathize and coerce others into believing 'something should be done' about gambling. theres people who will bet their entire net worth on a coin flip. you know what?? fuck them. society isnt here to change your diaper when you shit in it.
@@flowertree2732 hugs to you too ❤️. So many times I say never again and always back in, even though I don’t want to go there. Truth be known, it is about 2/5 people in the UK have a real issue with gambling. Well the real issue is not with gamblers it is the casinos, bingo halls and bookies who blatantly rip people off. The odds of winning anything is marginal where as they win 99.9% of the time.
i really do sympathise with the poor guy. it absolutely is a shocking addiction.......football and horses brought me into casinos which are the crack cocaine of gambling for sure. funny i was able to ditch the sports gambling easily cos I felt I had no "control" over what a football team or a horse did in another country but with the online casino games it feels like i have more control (total bollox of course). Also they give you a lot of cash bonuses etc that keep you going back. The "relapsing" thing is so true too. I've been able to get away from it for a week or so but always succumb in the end.
Fifty cents wins 64000 dollars at 16 years old. Handling that would be really rough for anybody. The thought is why would I work and grind 40k per year when 64k just falls out of the sky.
Time to get out of it mate. Take the steps to self exclude and fill your time with positive actions instead - the brain needs stimuli to replace the experience, it’s hard to just stop and have nothing to fill the void. You can do it, just forget the losses as if they never happened, because once you’re done with it it’s like it was a different person. Good luck!
So sorry about that buddy 😢. That’s how gambling works, it surely takes more than it gives. I’ll be happy to share healthy tips and investments tips to cover that void for you 👏🏻
The UK government make over 3 billion a year from gambling Tax. Also there are some very wealthy people involved in the betting industry. There are also taxes paid by people working in the betting industry. The government couldn't give a toss about the poeple suffering because of gambling. Neither do most of you,if it doesn't affect you then it doesn't matter. Isn't that right!!
Think it finally is my turn to share my story. Feel free to flame me, I deserve it. Last year I was down 1.6k. This year I got the 1.6k back and reached 7.2k One hour ago they became 3.6k. I'm done forever with this shit, I mean I got my money back plus 2k more while I had 5.6k plus but still burnt them. I feel like shit right now but inside of me I know I'm done for good. I'm so embarrassed, I wanna cry and scream, I feel like I'm dead inside right now. Worst thing is how it affects you, f this bs . Never get near it guys I'm begging you, it ain't worth it at all. Also I can't sleep now either, my brain is fu**ed... I wish I had someone to talk to right now but I don't...
I am glad he is taking some reasonability for his gambling addiction and that the additaments around doesn't help either and he is getting the help needed before it was too late.
"Reasonabilitiy"?? O_o If you mean 'responsibility', you did NOT listen to this video. He was a CHILD when he started, someone with no life experience and therefore no clue or guidance as to what he was getting himself into. Addiction is just that; it has nothing to do with intelligence, willpower or responsibility, because the brain is wired differently. Gambling addicts simply can't stop by themselves without outside help, any more than the alcoholic or drug addict can't, because the addiction has hijacked their brain and taken control.
@@SevenEllen addiction can happen at any age as long as purity has passed those pheromones and he was 16 years old when he started and waited until he was 18 years old (legally adult) to go into gambling fully and relapsed a few times and admitted to it because only you can control your actions by free will. Yes there temptation around him whether it is on the streets or online. He wasn’t pushed by friends or family because by the sounds of it his friends and family never knew and because of that he never seek that support he needed to help him overcome his addiction. Addiction wakes up the good feeling pheromones in your brain when you win and from the adrenaline rush you want more of it. I should to smoke and through will power and years of pushing myself I managed to quit and I started smoking at 16 years old and at 27 years old I was able to fully quit my smoking addiction and have saved so much money.
I feel sorry for gamblers who get into trouble, just as I do with any addiction. However - just to put the other point of view. Fact is the vast majority of gamblers do so without having a problem. Vast majority love having a bet on their favourite sport, some occasionally and some regularly. Vast majority able to keep stakes to a reasonable level. It's not like we need to make a profit to enjoy ourselves either (although some of us do). Part of the fun is studying the form and pitting our wits against the bookmaker / market... And yes, sometimes seeing the selection win. Let's face it, loads of adults love going down the pub. Do they ever make a profit from their pint? No... And unfortunately some of them will get addicted to alcohol. Just like some will get addicted to gambling. Should we be clamping down on pubs?
i just came here after losing my weekly paycheck at the Casino at Leicester square for the million times, started this year very well until i relapsed back in FEB fast forward i have lost over 2000 pounds.
What I've never understood about gambling is that it's common knowledge/sense that you have only a very small chance of winning and a 90% chance of losing.....and I don't get why people just go ahead with it anyway knowing they're almost certainly going to lose. The house ALWAYS wins and there's no broke bookies.
Oh seriously…….withdrawals?? From gambling addiction??? It’s hardly like heroin, booze or benzodiazepines is it?? If you don’t gamble……nothing physical happens…….you may get worked up mentally but you won’t get sick. If you can get that addicted to gambling you are prone to become addicted to anything imo.

gambling addiction is the worst addiction. you need money to fuel your addiction. after winning big its hard to leave to casino even when youre up a couple grand. i struggle every day. slots., card games, scratchers. i hope everyone that reads this helps themselves and know youre not alone. sometimes its better to save that little money we work hard for and put that hard earned money somewhere to show instead of burning it. myself am still struggling. we can do this. baby steps
The thing I don’t understand is how he was able to win the 64k as he was only 16 and I’m pretty sure that bookmakers whether online or in shop are going to ask for age identification before paying out such a large sum of money ???
There are still channels on YT promoting a myth that you can beat the bookies by buying some course/software from them and they are banned for winning too much. The only ones who win are those who have prior knowledge and aren't gambling at all. Best to earn your money, pay your bills and put some in a high risk ISA and forget about it.

The ads are just as stupid as gambling itself but the real problem is online gambling and how easy it is to play. If you have a phone you have a casino in your pocket the whole time and that hurts..
My online gambling addiction has cost me £40 000 in the last 8 years 😢. And i still convince myself i could win it all back. So sad this addiction.

I want to talk to someone to be honest.
Let me know if you can still reply here
Can u please tell us how u manages to quit
@@switzerlandSal the only way to quit is to self exclude from everything and replace gambling with a hobby or two hobbies etc
How many pennies are we talking about here?
Please I need someone to talk to..
I lost about 500€ with scratch tickets, then one day I won 1000€ and never bought one again, it's been 3 years and I'm happy to walk away from gambling with a profit
At last, someone with a working brain in the comments. You're in the top 1% of gamblers in the world!
Smart. Exactly how to do it.
This guy could have been 64k up off a single accumulator. I’m not sure I’d ever get over knowing I blew that plus more after.
It is not about the money. It’s the high that they chase when they win.
Its a good rush though
Even deeper than that as the real addiction is the actual play time that they crave.
Tragic story, my friend has a severe compulsive gambling problem, he spent £15, 000 on slots in the last 2 weeks and has emptied his bank accounts and shows no sign of stopping . Any time I say anything about it he turns on me saying "you're not perfect either mate" and "I love the buzz of walking into the bookies" I can't be around him anymore, he's going fast down the tubes.
what a tragedy. that poor dumbass.
Gambling should be banned in the uk
infact, all over the planet. or at least online gambling should be banned
My dad has a gambling problem and it was horrible for us growing up
I've never gambled in my life apart from 1 day where I sat at a casino table to observe & play. Straight away I could feel the temptation & desire to keep playing. I sympathise with gambling addicts, its like any other addiction.
So refreshing to hear someone who gets it!
Yes I had an addiction years ago. I'm just a gaming person, but with inflation being how it is, then I understand why people turn to gambling is such a big thing nowadays.
It's by far the most expensive one
The trick to not losing is never gambling.
Or to only gamble what you can afford to lose. With 64k he could have paid rent for 3 years.
Most of the time you will lose it all.
that's how i think every time 😢😢😢
What he said about using gambling to deal with anxiety and depression really hits home. Sometimes you just need your brain to stop and gambling occupies your brain and senses so much it does the job. But when you stop it all comes crashing back.
Unless you can eliminate the gambling industry, do not gamble.
It's big business. The system's designed to put you in debt anyways. The more money there is the more debt there is
Delete all the apps, stay offline unless supervised and be accountable for daily activities.
Best thing government can do is to shut them all sites and casinos but they won’t
This is a huge problem in Africa. People are even selling their pots and pans to fund their gambling habit
Not only in africa is all country also
With gambling the biggest thing to know is it's a losing game.
Well said. Our society is geared to instant gratification like the be more dog adverts telling you to buy useless stuff
Exercise is a good dopamine fix but even that can be abused. Its all about finding a happy medium i suppose
Seemed like an experienced gambler.
@@ciararespect4296 Who says it's "instant"?
Sometimes takes me two hours to study a race.

I came back to following football after 10+ years and the most striking thing is the onslaught of betting ads around the pitch and placed on every shirt. Even multiple on one. It is shocking that people in the comments are so dense to think this is normal. I thought American sports were bad, but they are no where near as saturated as football.

AS long as gamblers blame themselves then the gambling industry will never be forced to take action - stop advertising, stop give aways, stop courtesy buses, stop free food and drinks, stop all the bells and whistles on one armed bandits. stop
designing casinos so you can't find your way out etc.
In England Betting shops are everywhere hard to not play
Good luck mate, it's a killer.

What I've never understood about gambling is that it's common knowledge/sense that you have only a very small chance of winning and a 90% chance of losing.....and I don't get why people just go ahead with it anyway knowing they're almost certainly going to lose. I have attempted suicide severally.. dropped out of school due to gambling... Got into this mess at age 19... While in college.. feel so sick and miserable about myself... I need help
Be strong man
there are as many gambling shops in the UK as there is weed shops in canada lmao.
I swear if those crypto bots show up here 💀
Just reported one lol
If there were better activities for young people after 21 maybe we would have less gamblers
A shame that a well known commentator and presenter whose fame is largely built on BBC's cricket coverage has taken up voiceover work for online gambling advertisements.
