Always a pleasure to see VIR, even on a shortened layout. Had to chuckle at the mind blank bit because I can relate, happens to me every now & then, and it is quite embarassing haha. Cheers Dave, pity about the 1x, rooting for the perfecto next time!
Hey Dave, really clean race! Was a pleasure to share the grid with you as I was the one starting in 4th. Just got into iRacing again and your content definitely plays a big part in that. Cheers!
Been Iracing for 3 weeks now and just got a perfect race. Fastest lap, totally clean, lead every lap, got the fastest time and won. I am aware this will be lower splits than what you are in. Love your channel Dave, mainly because you seem like a really decent guy!
Love VIR been on it many times in my 89 Porsche 944TS Great laps Dave I've only done the long coarse I like really going in onto the rumble strip in turn 5a as it gives me a straight shot thorough the uphill S's
As a rookie with one completed race (finished second after practicing 6 hours over a week and taking your and other racer's advice), I find myself having to tell myself to "drive the car". The faster I go, I don't realize I need to physically turn the wheel more and I notice that on faster sharp corners, you turn the wheel before reaching the corner. Trusting the car like that on the two blind corners on VI and turning just prior at speed is rough. Thanks for all these vids!
Part of that isn't really turning, per se, it's just a slight enough turn to cause the body roll, effectively setting the suspension in place and transferring a tiny bit of weight onto the outside tires. Thinking about it like this makes it easier to accomplish a smooth turn-in. For blind corners, get your eyes up to the horizon, find a tree or other landmark to sort of "aim" towards. Like the cone in the fence at Sebring T1, or the distant tree we all aim for when entering the corkscrew at laguna seca, or the gap in the trees at mid-ohio T9. Hope this helps!
Would it be possible Dave to do a short video of how you personally drive the mx5 without a h-shifter please? I'm thinking as a follow up to your iracing clutch options video. Love the channel mate, keep up the good work 👍
Wheel in the grass normally spells disaster at VIR. Good save Dave, and yes momentary lapse of track position has been experienced by me. Makes you wonder "what the hell was I thinking!". I'll agree that VIR is a great addition to the line-up!
Nice racing Dave but pity about the brain fart. I've had that a couple of times in real life when driving a road I knew well and just got disorientated by something and it's scary. Another great video. 👍
Nice one. The perfect hattrick in racing is called a Grand Chelem or Grand Slam. The 0x is just showing off. :P By the way, speaking of the American Nordschleife, the IMSA series is at the VIR FULL Course this week, could run a GT3 in one of those innit
If memory serves me right, my one and only perfect race was in a GT3 Fixed in Mt. Panorama the week after Bathurst 12H (which a mate and I also joined in). Maybe that's what happens after going around the same track for about 8 hours in a day!
I was literally going to comment on last vid saying get in mazdas for a vid! Class loved it 👏 my best is 1.37.3 round there I was stunned to see 1.36 low
Hey Dave, before you roll back your video card drivers try racing without Racelabs Apps running. I found it's taking up lots CPU lately especially on a big track like this. Give t a try and see if that's the issue for you too. Howay!
Excellent race Dave. I've had it three times, it's called the Grand Chelem. Did it at Rd Atlanta, Spa & VIR in GT3 Fixed. Anyway, more importantly, I reached out to GRID & said I would take the wheel if you didn't keep it. Would have saved me import duty/VAT......but you kept it, you miserable git :)))))))))) hahahaha
@@davecamyt all good Dave, makes me happier with my purchase & proves your review/own view is not just lip service...........but still wouldn't have minded saving a few quid haha. Keep up your great work & outlook on this hobby
I’m new to iracing and up to B license so far. However, every race I do is a complete lottery as to whether I get wiped out or not. I am so clean and respectful of others but some drivers just punt me off. The worst ones are when you overtake and the side swipe you. So frustrating.
Honestly Dave I think for some reason VIR is one of those tracks thats hard on the frame rate as is, Japan, Magny Cours, Hungaroring and Winton. It seems the newer tracks in my experience are just a bit more demanding.
@@davecamyt There are plenty of folks reporting the same issue with the new VIR scan. Let me save you some money, the RTX4090 can still get crushed by iRacing. th-cam.com/play/PLalbPJ5HwxR7Pg022jwDOz-mZgyQAE53e.html
@@davecamyt The oldest tracks on iRacing always seem to have terrible optimization. It's not a hardware issue, at a certain point you just can't bruteforce more FPS out of it.

@@davecamyt I mainly use a Reverb G2 and started having issues with the viewing position automatically resetting itself to less than desirable positions just now. Reboot didn't fix it. There's something to be said for triples when it comes to less headache.
Cleanest Mazda MX5 race in history.

The pleasure was all mine mate 😁
good to see racers that are more skilled than I forgetting the track layout once in a awhile. Nice Race Davey.
Got my first ever Iracing podium on this track last night, mazda mx5 races are so much fun

'1x from perfection!' - Sounds like a good philosophy for a racing career or life in general.
I did that the other day at silverstone drove straight through the second kink. Lost 3 spots was having a great race.

I love his layout of VIR. Skippy is great on this layout as well.

Haha while it's tough seeing me struggle I'm happy you appreciate the paint at 27:22

Love the car/track combo but I’m terrified racing it
It's still a 10/10 grand slam, Dave. Fun fact: I used to drive the mazda till my arse literally hurt on my old chair. It's such a hoon to drive.

Did my first track day ever here on the North Course layout. The blind right hander before the uphill Esses is scarier than the Esses themselves!
well.. i once wanted to go straight on the GP course at the Nürburgring... in a normal Nordschleife Race ^^ Trained a lot for NES back then
Prophetic brain fart moment = 21:04
So close Dave. Hard to stay focused when the prize is so close. Thanks for the entertainment!!
love watching you race!!!!

Ever since they updated VIR people have been suffering of frame drops. RIP oak tree

Love this track took me a while to learn but it was well worth it, very unforgiving one tyre wrong and your sent to the shadow realms of the grass

Any time spent on VIR is perfect. Apex the turn at the 4:37 mark a bit later for a faster run through the next section.

Hello dave lad from county durham here, love the videos mate i watch you with my twins we would love to see your rig for real!!!
Just reported a scam on you sight @davecam
Thank you 😁
Dave where guide for VIR on traxion for mx5? :C
It’s not the graphics drivers. I have a 4090 and get 60fps at VIR. It’s something inherent in the track.
th-cam.com/video/K5t8wnB8gMo/w-d-xo.html
You struggling there with a 4090?

It’s faster to driving the car in a little harder than you’re doing here and popping 1st while rolling off the breaks to thrown on a lot of rotation
Perfect hat trick, game win, one yellow card...
First few races i had here were absolute chaos, first one only 3 people finished with P3 2 laps down. And tbh 15 laps are a bit too much.
Always rush to watch your "slower car content", I don't know if it is because it is more my level or, as you say, always seems to be good racing. And it is clear you enjoy it.
Yep, the slower the car the better the racing 😁
VIR is a really cool track
good race mac
It's too hard alone, I don't dare go racing here
Is that your setup in the car or preset by the class of race? 5th gear is nearly useless is why I ask.
Preset by the class. You can't change anything in this series 👍
About to race here now - don't think i'll get the perfect hatrick tho!
Easy peasy. Be careful of the last turn. That grass is a car magnet 😁
@@davecamyt turn 1 and 2 were the places I lost most of my time! But a P5 and p3 after 2 races

10900k, 32gb and a 3090 👍
