This is the problem with so-called Nepali intellectuals. If you have a PhD, doesn't matter what subject OR from what university, you can talk about anything. Mr. Gyawali is supposedly a water resource experts, BUT talks like he is an EXPERT in geo-politics and the international financial system. In my view, HE HAS NO IDEA WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT.
1) US$ is going nowhere. Yes, the US deficit is rising, and finance-types in the US are worried, but the US deficit, unfortunately, is the world's problem. If the US finds difficulty financing its deficit, US interest rate, which is the world's risk-free rate, will rise. If US rate jumps to >10% like in the 1980s, the world will sink into recession, and the world will suffer, Nepal included. Thus far, the US has NO problem financing its deficit, otherwise it will show up in either (a) US interest rate (will rise) or (2) US$ (weaken). If you look at the US interest rate, it is ~4%, low by historic standard. If you look at US$, it has been getting stronger vs. all the major currencies, Euro, Yen, Yuan, Pound. Mr. Gyawali himself said, 1 US$ was equal to Rs 8 (@16:35) when he was young, now its Rs 130. MR. GYAWALI IS MAKING ARUGMENTS AGAINST HIS OWN POINTS. 2) BRICs is a bullshit organization as long India and China, 2 most powerful countries, are NOT friends. Remember, Xi didn't show up at the G20 in Delhi. And India/China are not ONLY killing each other in the border wars, but also fighting over sphere of influence in South Asia (most recently in Sri Lanka and Maldives). Yes, India is buying Russian oil using IRs, but Russia has so much, it is stuck with billion of IRs which it can’t use because nobody will accept IRs as payment currency (www.scmp.com/news/world/russia-central-asia/article/3219591/russia-says-it-has-billions-indian-rupees-it-cant-use-invading-ukraine). Russia wants India pay in Yuan, but India does not want. South Africa is a failed State; just read about electricity problems there; it is worse than Nepal ever faced despite the ANC inheriting an economically sound country. 3) On Russia,
(a) Mr. Gyawali is basically regurgitating Putin's talking points/propaganda; there is nothing insightful in his viewpoints.
(b) Russia does NOT have the most powerful military in the world. It can barely defeat Ukraine, a country 1/8th its economy. Now, it has run out of weapons as well as manpower. It is forced to import weapons from 3rd rate powers like Iran and N. Korea, and recycling those from WW2. It is enlisting foreign fighters from poor/desperate countries like Nepal (15,000), Syria and Cuba. Remember, NATO's economy is 20x Russia's and the US ALONE spends at least 10x more on military than Russia.
(c) Russia is a BIG GEO-STRATEGIC loser after Ukraine war. Now NATO border with Russia has doubled after Finland joined NATO. After Sweden joins, Baltic Sea will be NATO's lake. RUSSIA HAS BECOME VASSAL OF CHINA (China is the ONLY country in the world that can stop the war NOW by forcing Russia's hand).
(d) Russian economy is a joke. It is basically a big gas station. Aside from oil and gas, Russia does NOT produce anything that the world needs. It has been able to escape US sanctions because of oil & gas. The country has NO future as >1 million of its most educated people, esp. tech types, have left the country after the Ukraine war. Even if the war is over, Russia will remain economically isolated as long as Putin is in power.
(e) Putin will probably die in office like Brezhnev because he'll be dead/assassinated if he loses power. After Putin dies, Russia may not exist as a country because Russia does not have a proper system of succession. MARK MY WORDS, THERE WILL BE A CIVIL WAR IN RUSSIA AFTER PUTIN DIES; the Wagner munity in summer 2023 is just a movie trailer, the full movie will be shown after Putin is dead. Post-Putin Russia will make the 1990s Russia look like heaven.
4) Mr. Gyawali is an expert on water resources. Even here, he fails. He is proud of blocking Arun project in the 1990s, which would have been Nepal-owned project. NOW THE SAME PROJECT IS OWNED BY INDIA (built at a much higher costs), and Nepal will get the benefits of Arun River’s electricity 30 years later. Mr. Gyawali CALLS THAT A WIN.
Alright, you've made it very clear that your information come from Judaeo-Protestant controlled western media. Like Poutine said, the west is and has always been an empire of lies. So a spoiler alert to you, your are going to wake up to a very hard reality.
Let me debunk your myths/points point by point.
1) US dollar still remains as the main reserve currency. It is not easy and safe to de-dollarize completely and quickly since it's been used by almost every country to trade since Bretton wood's agreement of 1944. Every economist, including chinese, russian and even indian knows it. But due to extraterritoriality laws of dollar and the its abuse by the US, process of de-dollarization will happen and should happen, thus giving birth to a multi-polar world. Saudi Arabia and China did a $7billiion currency swap few months ago. India is buying gas and diesel from Russia in rupees and ruble. This kind of using different currencies in international trade will continue. Dollar will eventually lose international market.
2) Your source is from CNN. Funny. BRICS is not a group of friends or a group like G7 with a master state and satellite states. That is again a Judaeo-Protestant philosophy. BRICS is a group of countries that find a common ground which is trade among each other, according to everyone's national interest. BRICS+ will have countries that are enormously rich in natural resource and are close to international trade routes which they can control.

(a) It looks like you are the one doing western propaganda. Do you read other sources from other countries besides Anglo-Saxon media?
(b) Russia HAS the most powerful military in the world. Russia has defeated many invaders through its history, Napoleon and Hitler being the most recent ones. Russian army is considered as a "steamroller", it is extremely heavy and powerful, goes slowly but smashed everyone in front. If Russia wants, they can wipe Ukraine off the map in a heart-beat. But Russians are not Americans who carry out carpet bombings killing mostly civilians. The simple fact that you are calling Iran and N.Korea a 3rd rate power shows your naivety and ignorance. The destruction from Iranian made drones have done has frightened western powers. And no one dares to touch N.Korea. Their inter continental ballistic missiles can wipe off all major cities on US western coast. I don't even want to mention Hyper sonic missiles. Mercenaries from other countries are also present in the US, UK, French military. Being a nepali you should know this simple fact. And it's not because the US spends tons of dollars in this defense that it has better equipment. Let's say that their equipment are just costly. Costly does not equate to superiority, n'est-ce pas? And of course you need that much money to maintain 800+ military bases all over the world. And what about private defense contractors embezzling US tax payers money?
(c) NATO will collapse in near future. Have you been following the sorry state of European countries' economies, mainly that of Germany? European union is in danger of imploding. European countries and in danger of civil war with the amount of immigrants, mainly Muslims, that they have accepted. No EU = No NATO or No NATO = No EU or No NATO = US Free EU. China and Russia are partners. The fact that you've called Russia a Chinese vassal shows that your logic follows Judaeo-Protestant philosophy where a relationship only exists between a master and slave. Poor you.
(d) Russian economy is the fastest growing European economy at the moment. Russia exports natural resources to all over the world, including to the US. Many chemicals to manufacture gunpowder for US defense companies come from Russia. US space satellites use Russian component. Before you count of Russian civil war, you should bet on American civil war. As soon as the US economy starts to show cracks, you will see how this ultra violent US society where citizens are over-armed will fight among each other.
(e) Wishful thinking. Russia was there before the US and will always be there. Mother Russia has always given birth to patriots who will save her. Worry more for the US.
4) Mr Gawayli is way more informed and cultivated than you ever will be.
Lastly, the US society is a sick society, mentally (sexually deprived, deranged, depressed, stressed out, anxious, drugged/medicated), physically (over-weight, obese with tons of illness).

The US gave birth to its fictif financial system which is a disaster. Since 1971, the US has been printing and using dollar illegally to dominate the world. The sub-prime crisis of 2008 showed the face of this monster. They did not tame the monster and instead nurtured it. Today it is out of control and they don't know how to get out of it, if it is not by igniting fire all over the world, thus by bring the world to a complete destruction. They have provoked Russia, China, Iran and N.Korea to drag them to the complete destruction of the world, but these countries have show a great restrain.

Last Hawa, JPT. Mexico isn't part of BRICS, and Russia isn't as strong as it's perceived. US could decimate them in a week if they didn't have Nuclear weapon. If EU nations and Japan didn't denuclearize or defund their armies, they would still be more powerful than any of India, or China even. China, Brazil and India have bigger economy because their population is so big, bigger economy is not an indication of prosperity. EU nations have an unified military what we know as "NATO". Japan and South Korea were already 2 of the 10 biggest spenders.
Now coming to your question, both Japan and Korea act as a vassal state for their big brother US. US have their biggest military base in Japan. And, Japan allows it because they want to be protected from China, Russia and N.Korea, same with S. Korea. Why pay for your defence when someone else can pay for it? Japan needs protection, US needs their military bases there to keep an eye on N.Korea and China. Match made in heaven!
But since Ukraine war broke out, Japan realized the necessity to have a strong military and maybe US can't be relied upon when shit hits the fan, so they upped their defence budget to the level that wasn't seen since the 2nd World War (look up)
And as for NATO, they all have agreed to raise their defense budget to minimum 2% of GDP, And one of the Trump's election campaign promises was to force these EU nations to contribute more to their defence budget, contrary to what you believe.

Mr Gyawali is too Pro Russian and Anti American. Looking at our Diasporic interest and influence, its only natural for us to be closer to America rather than Russia.
Please remember, how Russia had denied supporting our bid to join the UN, where the US came to Our aid helping us be recognized as a sovereign Nation.
The establishment of US embassy in 1947 in Nepal, helped us solidify our position to be recognized as a country different from India. when India got its independence in 1947, it started engulfing smaller nations in the neighborhood, who were not a part of British Indian Union. The US presence in Nepal had deterred such efforts.
