He has crazy dedication. In the making of Top Gun 2, they mention he actually learned to fly a plane after Top Gun 1. And then he made it also his responsibility to have the other actors in Top Gun 2 go through all the navy aviation emergency training. Just mad professional.

He did it also for the first one too. There's video of him and Goose training (doing patty cake). If he isn't willing to do the stunts, he doesn't ask anyone else to either. He is all about safety and when you want to truly work with the military, you make it happen by training before you even start shooting. For TG2 all the actors learned to fly and when they were ready, they moved to the real aircraft they would be flying in. That P51 was really his plane.
I've never been interested in the mission impossible movies, but knowing Tom Cruse does his own stunts, AND his appreciation to his fans, I'm on board!
We bought them all, because of him and were stunned at how fun they were to watch, getting better with each passing movie.

Another great thing about Tom is he's very gracious and appreciative of his fans. He realizes he's a movie star entertainer and takes it to new ground. He also spares us of condescending political talk like so many others that think they have worthy advice on how people should behave and vote.

To be fair, Kurt Russell was already a star when Tom was just graduating Kindergarten. Arnold has had THREE diverse careers in his lifetime, successful at all three. @@cainification We know some actors that are actually putting *a lot* of hard work and dedication into their acting performances and characters. Jacky Chan doing all these crazy stunts probably comes the closest to Tom Cruise's way of doing things but is nowhere near the scale of it. But I like Jacky Chan a lot. Christian Bale is known for having done absolutely crazy stuff as well (The Mechanic) and is pretty intense as well. Keanu Reeves also deserves a lot of respect for the very hard training and real world gun skills he acquired for his John Wick character. The entire John Wick franchise is really good. But like you said none of these are getting even close to Mission Impossible and Top Gun: Maverick.

This scene lasts for few minutes. What is amazing and appreciable is the team work of Stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood, Director, Second unit Director, Cinemaphotographer, number of behind the screen technicians and of course ' impossible' Tom!!!!
Matt Damon's story was so awesome, Tom wanted to do a stunt, the safety guy said, it was too dangerous, apparently TC said ' get another safety guy'. Great attitude

Really? He's rather famous for that. After he jumped from one building to another in the last MI, you see the character limp away from the jump. That's because Tom actually broke his leg on that jump and shooting had to be suspended while he recovered.

Base jumping is incredibly dangerous, but it's possible riding a motorcycle off a ramp propels the jumper forward, enabling them to clear the cliff face (which is where the danger lies). Tom Cruise is truly impressive actor (and human being).
Cruise could become an inspiration for a new, more safer form of Base Jumping (if you're prepared to forfeit a motorbike on each jump)
I love Skydiving and BASE jumping. I wish I had the means to do half of the wild jumps/flights that Tom does. He’s becoming a legitimately professional skydiver.

The scariest part of this, for me at least, would be keeping that bike on a straight trajectory as the incline increases and becomes increasingly distant from the ground below. I might be able to handle the drop off at the end, knowing I was tethered, but that ride up, whew. I'd lose it.
