Yes but remember he said he chose that one because he actually talks like that like I use the PR accent sometimes the mellao con tha Ele because that's how I talk because my family is Gullah Geechie
@ I'd be excited ABOUT going to those countries not FOR them. I know a lot of people in your generation say "for" when they mean "about". Just like people wrongly say "where I'm at" instead of "where I am". What passes for good English these days is pathetic.
I'm Spanish native speaker and I'm really improving my English vocab with your videos! I didn't even know how to say enésima vez in English! I love in the way you learned Spanish bringing the language to your everyday life. In my case I had to move to Australia, otherwise I think I wouldn't have been able to learn the language. Mucho exito hermano. Un saludo :)

Hey Alejandro. Thanks! Enésima in English is "umpteenth" I know it's weird, but that's it lol And Australia! Wow. That's very far, but I'm that I could help you and that you have pushed yourself to learn English. Keep it up!
Wow, I never knew how enésima was spelled. I just know my mom uses we she's frustrated with me. 😂 It's always the simpler words I get stuck on. I forget to use filler words and feel like I overuse así que because entonces sounds formal to me. Even o sea sounds strange and I'm not sure if it's less common in Mexico particularly or if my mom who prefers to say es decir and quiero decir. I was taught "o sea" in highschool and it always felt wrong. Is it a Spain thing or just my mom not using it enough with me?
This is a great video!! We learn all of the proper Spanish everywhere, but it's nice to learn slang words you can't learn in a book.
6 ปีที่แล้ว +4
Thanks! I actually don't even consider most of these slang. They're just filler words for the most part. I'm going to be doing slang videos after I do my accent videos.
I have been watching your videos for the last couple of days. They are very good. Most of the expressions are spot on, like the many ways to say “so”. In spanish “y punto” is actually used for when you are leaving no room for argument, similar to saying “that’s final” in English. “En punto” is actually the expression used for “on the dot”. Some of us also say “en serio” when we are trying to say for real.
In the DR we say "vale" all the time too, super common to say that here, it's more of a Dominican-American thing not to say "vale" but we use it a ton here
Dude, this is sssooooooo helpful - no sabes!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I speak Spanish fluently which I have learned over the years and speak comfortably every day.. Having mastered English and Frech over my lifetime, learning Spanish came quite naturally.... ....For me, the nuances you've highlighted in this publication may seem of little value to a novice student, but once you become at ease enough to entertain discussions related to any (common) topic, the one thing missing is fluidity. This video has proven invaluable as I NOW, consider myself fluent gracias a ti guey! En serio, muchisimas gracias hermano!!!!!
Ricky, you have been tremendously helpful as a Spanish teacher. Besides which, you are generous and gifted. I look forward to your blogs every week. Keep em coming bro, y que DIOS me ló bendiga.
I appreciate that you teach how to speak casual but not dirty. I was wondering for a while if Diablo is a bad word thanks for clarifying! If I want to learn the bad words I listen to my friends or my favorite traperos lol

Yeah, I have been battling myself on teaching bad words or not because they are used so much, but I opted out. lol
I appreciate your channel because you seem to REALLY CARE that we get this! That is very motivating. It makes ME care MORE since you seem to believe in us💜💜👏🏾👍🏾🤗
¡¡Te agradezco mucho!! For not teaching curse words. I am a 18 year old Africam American who prayed to learn Spanish last year. I live a Christian Life and it's good that you don't curse. I speak at an intermediate level and I use Spanish to tell others the gospel. Which is Jesus paid the price for our sins that we wouldn't have to go to hell for them if we decide to follow him and repent of our sins and way. I hope God moves in your life.

Love it am dominican also praying to preach the gospel in english , my kids are biligual and use a biligual bible they read spanish but speak english 😂
I heard or read somewhere that the sound that you make when you are thinking is produced when your tongue is resting/relaxing; that resting sound is different in various languages because each language has a different 'resting' spot of the tongue in your mouth. So in English we say "umm" because that's the sound our mouth makes when the tongue is in its "resting" position in English. In Spanish the "resting" sound is different ("emm") because tongue rests in a different position for someone whose native tongue is Spanish. I'm not sure if that's 100% true but it makes sense!

That's very interesting. I would have never guessed that at all.
Thanks for these videos bro, they’ve helped me out a lot with improving my Spanish, I can’t wait till I’m fluent!! One challenge that I’ve had is learning and understanding phrases that do not translate well to English in literal form. For example, “me tocó verla” = “I had to see her” but literally means “I touched myself to see her.” (FYI - I heard this from a Mexican speaker) Any advice or resources that you know of for learning phrases such as this?? Thanks again, sigue adelante bro!! Saludos desde Maryland!!
Look up spanish idioms that may help you. Also download the Hellotalk app to speak with spanish natives all spanish speaking countries.

Thanks. I've been extremely busy with my training and haven't been able to make videos, but more are coming next month. The best advice that I can give you is to learn from experience. You can look up idioms (modismos) online, but I learned all of y colloquial phrases from experience. Sometimes you'll feel dumb for not knowing somethings, but it's the only way to really learn. Let me know if you have any more questions. I'd be glad to help. an sorry for taking so long to respond.

The best advice I have for you is in this video, bro. th-cam.com/video/JILOjqY63SY/w-d-xo.html At the en of the day, if you want to learn, you'll do all you can to make it a part of your everyday life.
Diego Diaz Hellotalk is a language learning buffet you can speak native Spanish speaker from every Spanish speaking country. Also you can French, Portuguese, Korean, Chinese, etc.
Diego Diaz You can also try Duolingo and Memrise (they both are helpful and useful apps) and can help you start from there with basics, verbs, forming sentences, etc. Hope this helps! 🙂
Bayside Marketplace. Just visited this place in Miami a couple of weeks ago while on vacation ! It's pretty neat especially the marina part. Thanks for the video

Love your videos... I binge watch them lol. How would you say something like "you feel me?" Would that be like, me entiende? My boyfriend is from Nicaragua and not sure if this is a Nica thing but he says "oistes" after practically every sentence. Also a Nica word I love for "cool" is tuani. We live in Panama and the word "dale" seems to be used a lot for "okay". Also, not sure if this is Nica or just that I have a weird boyfriend, but he exclaims "que barbaro/a" or "que barbaridad" all the time and it always make me laugh cause who even says "how barbaric!" in English haha!? But he uses it to mean like "how crazy". Keep up the amazing content!
I loved your videos, since I descovered your Channel I have learned the language with you. plz could you do a blog in English with FILLER WORDS’ when people talk they say I was like , me being like I just was like I’m like I don’t understand that filler words .
I always say encendio for lit and manin for like what's up bro "que lo que manin" but if I wana say like "hey my bro. What's up" I'll say like "oye mi pana." o "oye mi tipo"
It's neat how diverse the Spanish language is. In Spain one would say 'que tal' and you can refer to a friend as 'tio'. My Colombian friends in London often start with 'que hubo?' which sounds more like q'ubo or 'que mas marica'. Every country has their 'way' and even within each country there are more variations again.

hi im Peruvian we don't really say vale for ok we say "ya" "okey" or older people might say "sale y vale" but never just "vale" thats like a Spain thing 😂
Can you do a video on how people abbreviate in Spanish. I notice when people are speaking quickly (which is most), they tend to not say each letter and pronounce the words. For example when some people say “este” I hear “ete”. Things like This can be difficult to understand while learning Spanish, and can make me sound very foreign in my opinion. Can you make a video on comprehending this, and speaking like this.

What’s the best way to learn Spanish I want to move there when I am 18 I’m not looking to be fully fluent in two year because I know that’s unrealistic but I’d like to be conversational maybe can anyone help me if tell me what the best way to learn on your own is ?
6 ปีที่แล้ว +1
It's actually very realistic to be fluent in two years. I did it lol. Do you plan on teaching yourself
Great, helpful video. Do you have the ability to put in titles? I'm phonetically putting these words into my translator, trying to get it right. Thanks!
msmishLA Los Angeles it’s a polite way of saying “excuse me?” You Can use it when you couldn’t hear when someone was speaking to you or someone calls you over, you can respond with “Mande?” It’s like a way of asking them to repeat themselves or let them know you’re ready to hear :)
The Bible translates commandments as “mandamientos” i believe this is from the infinitive “mandar” which according to my spanish synonym app could be translated as ordenar “to order” and also “enviar” and “dominar” “send” and “dominate” In short: i believe it literally means “command”[me] - but yes, it is a polite way of asking someone to repeat themselves.

I'm in LA right now. There is to much traffic here! I'm gonna be trying to give people to teach me Mexican slang here.
It’s crazy how he’s been imitating the DR accent in his Spanish for so long it’s bleeding over into when he speaks English.
Ajajajaj that happens to me but with Spanish from España 😭😭
It's happening to me. I love the language and culture
Yes but remember he said he chose that one because he actually talks like that like I use the PR accent sometimes the mellao con tha Ele because that's how I talk because my family is Gullah Geechie

I'll be going soon to those countries. I'm so excited for them. I'm glad that you like my content as well! There is so much more to come.

The 'tocó' means like, 'it was by chance/luck/obligation' not toco as in tocar, to touch. Your translation is still correct.
Así es 👍chevere de verdad

I'm not fluent and still learning but I've also heard "padre" or "chido" for when something's cool. I it's used some places in Mexico I believe.
Si , that´s how we use it..also for "nice" for example:
Oh that is a really nice car= oh ese es un carro/coche muy chido
I noticed all your experience with my language, because without even notice it I every single day tend to used this expressions xD Good job!

Thanks so much! I was wondering about “O sea”
can you make a video about how to get more confident in speaking to natives or speaking Spanish in public
Something curious about the word "este" in Japanese. It is "etto". Which if you think about it it sounds pretty similar to the word "este" in Spanish.
That is pretty interesting.
It's more like "ee-to" with a stretched "e" sound.
Great video! Buen trabajo como siempre! Bendiciones a ti 🙏😍
Gracias Maya!! :)
This was great. Super helpful. Thanks man
I'm glad that I could help. More to come soon!

msmishLA Los Angeles it’s a polite way of saying “excuse me?” You Can use it when you couldn’t hear when someone was speaking to you or someone calls you over, you can respond with “Mande?” It’s like a way of asking them to repeat themselves or let them know you’re ready to hear :)
The Bible translates commandments as “mandamientos” i believe this is from the infinitive “mandar” which according to my spanish synonym app could be translated as ordenar “to order” and also “enviar” and “dominar” “send” and “dominate”
In short: i believe it literally means “command”[me] - but yes, it is a polite way of asking someone to repeat themselves.
I'm in LA right now. There is to much traffic here!
I'm gonna be trying to give people to teach me Mexican slang here.

I call these words "crutch words" or sentence fillers. Muletillas en español! Important little words... 😆
Eres un campeón hablando español. Si fueras a Santiago de Cuba, en Cuba, por supuesto, you would feel it like home, independent of politics.
